《Otherworldly Merchant》Chapter 487: The Bible

Before I fell asleep, the temperature suddenly dropped. I vigilantly opened my eyes, but there was nothing at the entrance.
However, I was sure that the cold wind came from the door. Was it just a hallucination?
Li Mazi was playing on his phone and Marco was sitting with his head held low. “Hey guys, did you see anything enter the hall?”
They shook their heads.
Li Mazi didn’t take it seriously. “This is the biggest church in Milan. It is the place where God is enshrined. How could anything foul come in?”
Then, he went back to playing on his phone. I thought he was right and decided to resume my nap.
However, a stronger gust of wind suddenly swept into the hall. This time, both Li Mazi and Marco felt it. They turned to look at the entrance.
The Yin energy at the entrance had grown thicker, and the candles inside the church began to flicker. It wasn’t a good sign! Moreover, we had joined the wake tonight, and I didn’t bring anything with me!
Another gust of wind blew toward us, blowing out all the wax candles in the hall. I saw Yin Xinyue wave at me at the door. When I saw her, I was so happy that I subconsciously walked toward her.
After a few steps, I realized something was wrong. Yin Xinyue had departed to China, so this had to be an illusion!
I bit the tip of my tongue to try to wake myself up. I heaved a sigh of relief when the image of Yin Xinyue disappeared. I turned to my side and was about to ask the other two to be more cautious. However, there was no one around me. They were gone.
“Holy moly!” I cursed and was about to go out to find them.
But when I turned around, I saw the Lance of God. I went over and brought my palms together. Then, I bowed deeply to the statue, drawing the lance and dashing toward the door.

It’s a foreign ghost, so I should use this foreign Sacred Weapon to deal with it! It should be more effective!
Unexpectedly, when I went out, I didn’t see the two of them. A thick Yin energy lingered in the place. I knew they were bewitched and captured by the foul thing. I started to run faster. However, after a long distance, I still hadn’t seen them. I smelled the Yin energy of the female ghost in the air. Moreover, the further I went, the thicker the Yin energy became.
I was bewildered, and a horrible possibility popped up in my head. Maybe the female ghost had already transformed into a devil…
We had wounded her seriously before, so she must have considered us her worst enemies. That was why she wanted to trick us into leaving the church. It also showed me she was afraid of God!
I looked at the Holy Lance in my hand and gritted my teeth. Then, I ran toward the Ghost Castle where the female ghost took shelter.
Along the way, I kept thinking whether the ghost had become a devil or not. If not, it would be all right. But if she did, would the Lance of God work? Could Li Mazi and Marco endure it until I arrived?
I called a taxi to arrive at the Ghost Castle before the female ghost. However, when I passed by the hotel, I still hadn’t caught up to them. It was beyond my estimation because when someone was bewitched, they would move very slowly. This made me even more worried.
I didn’t even know if the Lance of God would work, so I decided to head back to the hotel to fetch the peach wood sword. I was ready for a match of life and death with the ghost!
Fortunately, as soon as I entered the meandering path behind the hotel, I saw Li Mazi and Marco walking slowly over there. Perhaps the ghost had let them slow down as she thought they couldn’t escape.
I felt some hope again! I rushed forward to catch up with them. Then, I forcefully slapped them.

They did not snap out of it but looked at me fiercely. Their eyes sparkled like those of a wild beast. In unison, they kicked me.
I didn’t expect that the ghost could control them to attack me. Li Mazi’s kick sent me to the ground, but it didn’t stop there. They rolled their eyes and bared their teeth as they pressed on me.
Their bodies felt incredibly heavy. I tried my best to wiggle free, but it didn’t work. In the end, I had to bite the tip of my tongue and spit blood onto their glabellas.
The two stiffened right after. Then, they slumped aside. The weight on my body disappeared. I knew they would soon wake up, so I got up from the ground and angrily looked at the Ghost Castle.
“Little Brother Zhang, what should we do now?” Li Mazi’s sanity was returned.
It seemed he knew what he had just done but wasn’t able to control his body. I clenched my teeth. “Since, it has come to this, what else can we do? We can only risk our lives and fight with her!”
Then, I grabbed the Lance of God and dashed away.
The moment I entered the hall, the Yin energy inside felt much heavier. Sparkling, purple wisps hovered in the air. In the past, my grandfather had told me that this phenomenon was called ‘vicious currents,’ and all things that could create vicious currents were very intimidating.
I wanted to leave but thought about Marco, whose father had just passed away, so I quickly pulled myself together.
As I approached the lectern, I didn’t see the ghost’s dried body. My heart sank. Did the ghost merge with her body?
Anxiously, I looked around to see if I could spot the ghost. But the Yin energy in this church was like a thick curtain of fog; I couldn’t see anything. I didn’t know what to do.
Suddenly, someone screamed behind me. I turned and found Li Mazi and Marco fighting one other. Their faces looked ferocious, just as though they deeply hated the other.
While I was hesitating, Li Mazi had already grabbed Marco’s throat. Marco did not seem to feel any pain, and he simply pounded his fist on Li Mazi’s head.
In a short time, they both had blood on their bodies. I knew the ghost wanted us to kill each other. I hurried to wake them up.
When Li Mazi got a hold of himself, the first thing he did was swear. “Damn it! A moment of carelessness and we were bewitched again!”
“Hold this!” I handed Li Mazi the Lance of God.
The female ghost had bewitched us twice, and I wasn’t affected even once. Except for my strong mentality, the Holy Lance must have also played a role.
In the meantime, I asked Marco to read the Bible aloud!
If the sacred text of Daoism could stabilize the mind and expel evil spirits, I guessed reading the verses from the Bible would have the same effect!
Indeed, as soon as Marco started to read something in Italian with his solemn voice, the Yin energy around us began to thin out. It felt warm, just as though the sunlight was shining in this place.

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’
