《Otherworldly Merchant》Chapter 597: The True and the Fake Senior Shu

When I returned with the ointment, I found Senior Shu in Li Mazi’s room. His life-bound rat sat in a corner. It was looking at me with its twinkling eyes.
When Senior Shu saw me, he was fuming. “You woke me up with your loud kick to the door!”
Then, he turned to help Li Mazi.
At this moment, the life-bound rat crawled up to the bed and squeaked at Senior Shu. Senior Shu was startled. His face paled in fright. He flustered and screamed, “Shoo this rat away!”
“All right!” My face darkened immediately. I nodded at him, then abruptly lashed with the Sirius Whip!
This man wasn’t Senior Shu. Senior Shu had always treated his life-bound rat even better than how he treated his children. How could he be afraid of that fat-ass rat?
The fake Senior Shu screeched. He turned into a green shadow and flew through the door.
Everything had happened in just the blink of an eye. When I got myself together, the green shadow had already gone far enough. I gritted my teeth to chase after it, but I lost track of it on the porch.
After gasping for my breath and controlling my anger, I returned to the room. Surprisingly, Senior Shu was there. He had already settled Li Mazi on the bed and was putting something into his mouth.
“You bastard!” Even Buddha would get angry after getting tricked again and again, let alone me, a hot-tempered, vigorous man! I couldn’t stand it anymore. That thing had teased us twice! I aimed at Senior Shu’s nape and hit it hard!
Senior Shu was quick to grab the Sirius Whip. He panted and fumed, “Kiddo, what are you doing?!”
“Wait, are you the real Senior Shu?” I asked carefully.
“Little rascal, you don’t even recognize your grandfather! What a fool you are!” scolded Senior Shu.
I got the situation now. If this man wasn’t Senior Shu, he wouldn’t have been able to grab the Sirius Whip with his bare hands. Moreover, I noticed that his life-bound rat was sitting calmly on his shoulder.

After I confirmed his identity, I exhaled in relief. I told him what had happened. Senior Shu gave me a slight nod and didn’t say anything else; he continued to help Li Mazi take the medicine. I then put the Securing Essence Ointment on the crown of his head.
After everything was done, I was a little scared and asked, “Senior Shu, do you think it’s related to the iron swallow?”
Senior Shu frowned. He thought for a while then nodded. His voice was low and worried. “The three of us are here, but she only came to the two of you. It means she isn’t my match! I think we’ll know soon enough if it’s related to the iron swallow.”
“You mean, there was someone behind this ghost?” I asked.
“We’ll know tomorrow. I need to sleep now.” Senior Shu waved at me then left the room. I thought that thing wouldn’t dare to come again. I checked around Li Mazi’s room, then returned to my room to sleep.
Early the next morning, Li Mazi woke up. He looked much better than last night. He gingerly asked, “What happened last night?”
After thinking about his X-rated scene last night, I wanted to forget about it. However, as he had kept pestering me, I had to tell him the truth.
Li Mazi took in a deep breath. In a trembling voice, he said, “Last night, I dreamt about Ru Xue and I doing, er, things. Did that thing bewitch me?”
If that thing could impersonate Senior Shu, it wouldn’t be a problem for it to transform into Ru Xue’s appearance to enchant Li Mazi.
After confirming that he didn’t betray Ru Xue, I wasn’t as angry as before. We went to wake up Senior Shu to have breakfast. Then, we drove to Feng Yuanzheng’s neighborhood.
It was a high-end neighborhood with good security. When the security guards discovered that we didn’t live there and saw that no one had come to pick us up at the entrance, they didn’t allow us to enter the neighborhood. I had to call Feng Yuanzheng.

“Hello Mr. Feng, how is it going in your house?”
“Don’t mention it. Yan won’t go out…” Feng Yuanzheng sounded reluctant. “Yesterday, she sneaked out very late at night. When she came back, she grimaced, and her clothes were torn. It looked like she fought with someone. She’s resting in the bedroom and throwing a tantrum.”
Feng Yuanzheng sounded embarrassed as he continued, “Could you come back another day?”
I didn’t answer him but turned to tell Senior Shu that Zhang Yan had gone out last night.
“It’s getting more interesting…” Senior Shu’s eyes turned brighter. He took the phone from me and asked Feng Yuanzheng to watch Zhang Yan. Then, we returned to the hotel.
Last night, someone had come to trouble us. From what Feng Yuanzheng had described, I had a feeling that Zhang Yan was behind this.
Of course, we had to wait and see.
When we arrived at the hotel, we saw the hotel’s manager pointing at the surveillance screen. He was gesturing something. I craned my neck to see. On the screen, Zhang Yan was standing outside the window. She was supporting herself on the balcony.
The place she was standing on was Li Mazi’s balcony. Moreover, the times matched, too. It was enough to prove Senior Shu’s assumption.
I wanted to take a closer look. However, the manager stopped me with an unfriendly tone. “Kid, you kicked the door open last night. Do you want to check the camera and destroy the evidence?”
“Emh…” I hesitated for a while, then remembered that I had kicked the door of the hotel to save Li Mazi. When we left this morning, the room service hadn’t come yet. I forgot this detail.
I immediately gave the manager several thousand renminbi as compensation, then asked to see the surveillance cameras. The manager changed his attitude toward me. He showed me the scene where Zhang Yan appeared last night. My heart throbbed.
On the screen, Zhang Yan looked around cautiously. Then, she slowly climbed on the water pipe and stopped at our floor. Seeing the scene, I dropped my jaw in awe. It wasn’t enough to describe her by saying that her body was as light as a swallow. Zhang Yan’s name wasn’t just in vain!
She clung onto the pipe and stood on the outer block of the air conditioner as she assessed the three rooms. Eventually, she skipped Senior Shu’s room and directly jumped into my window and hung in there. While doing so, she kept mumbling something…
Immediately, a green shadow floated up from her body. It swayed a few times in the air before turning transparent. Then, it flew into the room through the window.
A few minutes later, the green shadow ran away. It was damaged because I was reading the Sacred Text of Daoism at that time.
Zhang Yan wasn’t satisfied. She rolled her eyes at my room, then turned to the balcony outside Li Mazi’s room. Using the same method, she sent the shadow to the room.
The shadow hadn’t come back after a long time. Zhang Yan now wore a morbid smile. I knew it was when Li Mazi was making love on the bed. I shot him a despising glance.
Li Mazi wore a wry smile as I rolled my eyes at him. Since I knew Zhang Yan was behind this, I didn’t want to watch the video anymore. But Senior Shu suddenly stopped me and asked me to continue watching.
Zhang Yan’s face suddenly paled. Then, she sat down and gasped for her breath. It looked as if she had just engaged in a fight. After a long time, she finally left.
I had so many questions on my mind. Why did Zhang Yan feel pain when I hit the green shadow in the room?
Perhaps she has merged with that spirit!
I shared my thoughts with Senior Shu.
Senior Shu blew on his mustache and smiled. “Are you saying that the spirit controlled her? Well, I think it’s the opposite. She’s the one controlling the spirit to kill us!”
I dropped my jaw. Although I’d experienced how rude Zhang Yan could be, I couldn’t believe that she wanted to kill us for real!

Life is Feudal
No OP stuff, status bars, levels or skills. This story is in favour of more realistic setting in a world of humans and various monsters. "Behind the mask of the assertive, resolute facade that employs ruthless routes at any given moment, lies the frail, anxious heart that were once but a puny human. Reviled and revered by many, none would ever know my true allegiance lies within myself, merely trying to survive this mess." Just the life of a grumpy man child living in a terrible piece of shit or a desolate state in which I call an alternate historical take on medieval Europe. Living as a peasant who is forced to take up arms to defend his own kin. This story grants an insightful take on the life of people living under constant danger, from vying nobles who commit atrocities in the name of justice, eager nations and barbarians aiming to take a piece of the bountiful land and mythical divine monsters who resembles a walking catastrophe in any possible way. [If you're easily offended by alternate-history religion and cultural practices, then you shouldn't read this.]
