《Gate of Revelation》Chapter 758

Chen Xiaolian’s focus was concentrated entirely on Riche and Terraflame.
Amongst the three of them, he was in the rearmost position, holding his breath all the way. He practically did not have the courage to even exhale.
The Divine Temple looked magnificent and fairly spacious from the outside. However, the three of them had to walk for a good 15 minutes before reaching the end of the passageway. Its interior was bigger than its exterior. It was as though the Development Team were utilizing spatial technology when constructing this instance dungeon.
At the end of the narrow passageway was a vast hall. Up ahead was a pillar-like statue, which stood upright. There was a crown on the head of the statue, which wielded a flail and a sceptre in each hand. Placed before the feet of the statue was a massive scale.
A light feather rested on one side of the scale while the other was empty.
“Finally… … we are here.” Terraflame halted his steps and turned around. “Now, let us peacefully complete this instance dungeon and obtain the reward.”
“How do you obtain it?” Chen Xiaolian had stopped walking forward, standing some distance away from him.
He was not interested in the so-called immortal body. His focus was on completing the instance dungeon.
After the third phase of the quest was complete, neither Terraflame nor Riche had informed him about the contents of the instance dungeon prompt. As for Chen Xiaolian, in order to maintain his image of a mysterious powerhouse, he had not asked them about it.
At that moment, however, both Terraflame and Riche were giving him a somewhat peculiar look.
“That… is not something you need to consider!”
Light flashed out from Riche’s eyes and he summoned one fire dragon after another from his palms. The number of fire dragons seemed endless.
“Didn’t you try this earlier? Your attacks cannot break my defence.” Chen Xiaolian scoffed.
“That was indeed the case. However, things are… different now!”
Riche revealed a ferocious grin as tens of fire dragons flew upwards before moving to encircle Chen Xiaolian from every direction. However, they did not attack Chen Xiaolian. Instead, they simply swirled around him.
At the same time, Terraflame brought out a small porcelain bottle. Biting his fingertip, he dripped down a droplet of blood into the bottle.
Soon enough, vast amounts of yellow-green soil poured out from the mouth of the small bottle.

The soil appeared durable and thick and they poured out at an alarming rate. The porcelain bottle was only the size of a baby’s fist. However, the soil kept pouring out non-stop from the bottle.
After pouring out, the soil seemingly came to life as they crawled towards Chen Xiaolian.
Chen Xiaolian abruptly leapt backwards to avoid the soil. Regardless of what it might be, it would be better for him to not make contact with it.
Although the soil was crawling forward, seemingly with a life of its own, it was not fast. Thus, even though Chen Xiaolian’s physical attributes had been pushed back to the point where he was no stronger compared to a normal human, he was still able to easily avoid the soil.
However, the soil coming from behind kept moving forward, attempting to surround Chen Xiaolian.
The only option left for Chen Xiaolian was to continuously run. However, Terraflame was standing before the entrance to the hall and the ground around him was already completely covered with the soil. Chen Xiaolian could no longer use the passageway to escape.
“Run, won’t you? Keep on running! I want to see how long you can keep on running!” Riche’s eyes lit up. “Continue, Terraflame! Envelop the entire hall! Don’t stop!”
They have… … discussed it through long ago!
Chen Xiaolian was shocked.
The three of them had been walking together. During that time, those two fellows had not spoken to each other at all. How could their actions complement one another so well? It was as though they had gone through this plan of action many times before.
The two of them were no longer guild mates. They should not be able to secretly communicate with one another using guild channel.
“Damn it! You only need magic energy for your skills. This Breathing Earth Bottle requires points!” Terraflame clenched his teeth. “Just look at how big this hall is! Why don’t you do it?”
“Fine! If you are willing to give me the Breathing Earth Bottle, I don’t mind spending some points!” Knowing that he had gotten a bargain, Riche put on a smug look. “The question is, are you willing?”
Terraflame grumbled. However, the Breathing Earth Bottle kept pouring soil out.
It did not take long for half of the hall’s floor to be completely covered by the strange soil known as Breathing Earth. It had forced Chen Xiaolian farther and farther away from the passageway entrance.

Taishi Ci’s summoning had entered its cooldown period; he could no longer be summoned again within the next 48 hours. Thus, Chen Xiaolian could only summon the Four-eyed War Cats to unleash three air blasts at the Breathing Earth.
Unfortunately, the air blasts were unable to affect the Breathing Earth at all. Not only did the air blasts fail to blow the Breathing Earth away, it appeared as though the energy within the air blasts was absorbed instead.
Chen Xiaolian gritted his teeth and brought out a Sentinel mech from his Storage Watch. Next, he swiftly jumped inside.
The Sentinal mech was one of the mechs given by Blade Mountain Flame Sea Guild. Although it was not the top version, it was also not the beggar version. Sixteen rocket grenades fired out simultaneously from both its shoulders to strike the floor before Chen Xiaolian.
However, the rocket grenades did not explode. Rather, after making contact with the Breathing Earth, the rocket grenades were immediately entangled and enveloped before getting crushed and devoured. Although there was only a thin layer of the Breathing Earth on the floor, it seemed as though there was a bottomless abyss beneath the layer of Breathing Earth.
The laser blasters on both of the mech’s arms began firing ceaselessly. However, it was once again futile. The laser beams struck the surface of the Breathing Earth only to light up the struck spots. After that, however, the struck spots turned dim.
The rate at which the Breathing Earth was enveloping the place did not falter at all.
“A Sentinel mech? That is a decent equipment. However, you can stop your futile efforts! This is Breathing Earth!” Seeing Chen Xiaolian and the Four-eyed War Cats firing non-stop at the soil, Riche laughed loudly. “With the exception of the Breathing Earth Bottle’s user, no other attacks can affect it. Why do you think it would require 10 points per kilogramme?”
Even as he was speaking, Riche was continuously summoning out more fire dragons. By then, there were hundreds of them swirling around Chen Xiaolian. However, they did not attack him at all.
Chen Xiaolian’s face sank.
It did not matter what Riche planned on doing next. Even if he simply allowed the Breathing Earth continue to spread, Chen Xiaolian would be buried alive.
Seeing the ever-increasing amount of Breathing Earth, Riche smiled. “Hey, Terraflame. Is it enough?”
“It’s enough!” The Breathing Earth had spread out to envelop half of the hall. Terraflame looked at the fire dragons swirling around Chen Xiaolian and stopped releasing more of the Breathing Earth before plugging the bottle. However, he continued to hold the bottle. “There should already be enough to melt it!”
Melt?
Not good! Chen Xiaolian screamed inwardly and he watched as Riche beckoned with his hands, a grin on his face. The hundreds of fire dragons around him descended, smashing against the surface of the Breathing Earth.
When the fire dragons made contact with the Breathing Earth, they disappeared without a trace, much like the air blasts that the Four-eyed War Cats had unleashed earlier. However, when the fire dragons made contact with the Breathing Earth, the struck spots would light up, turning dark-red in colour.
As more and more fire dragons struck the Breathing Earth, even more parts of the soil turned dark-red in colour.
It did not take long for every part of the Breathing Earth on the floor to turn fiery-red. In that short period of time, its movement speed had accelerated greatly. It had become like flowing lava.
“I forgot to tell you. The Breathing Earth doesn’t simply ‘defend’ against attribute attacks. Rather, it also ‘absorbs’! All attacks with attributes would eventually become energy inside the Breathing Earth. Additionally, it would also… cause its form to change!” Riche laughed loudly. “I believe that the strange armour of yours can defend against lava. However, after getting swallowed by it, I don’t believe the armour can continue to protect you!”
As Riche laughed, a large portion of the floor was already covered in the Breathing Earth. It rapidly gathered together before sweeping towards Chen Xiaolian like a large piece of wrapping paper.
Chen Xiaolian clenched his teeth. He promptly activated the thrusters to charge towards Terraflame.
Not going all out at this moment would mean not having the chance to do so anymore.
The 16 rocket grenades, which had only just finished reloading, fired out again. At the same time, he also fired the laser blasters. All of them were aimed at Terraflame.
However, Terraflame swiftly raised his shield. The rocket grenades and lasers bombarded the shield, releasing a series of explosions. However, after the flames subsided, Terraflame remained standing on the same spot, unscathed. There was not a single mark on his shield.
As for Chen Xiaolian, before he could arrive before Terraflame, his vision turned dark as the lava formed using the Breathing Earth bound him.

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
