Chapter 157: 157
The young man named Armstrong was in a drinking session together with the other noble children of Gold City. All of them had flirtatious women mounted atop their laps.
“Good job, Douglas. I’ll tell my father to consider making you the leader of Gold City’s underground forces.”
Armstrong had a teasing smile on his face, but he had no intention of letting Douglas stand back up.
A few of the other young masters beside him laughed while drinking:
“Hehehe… Armstrong, is this the right-hand man that you often tell us about?”
“Yes! He looks good! He looks strong as well! He also seems to be two years older than you…”
“He feels pretty capable to me. Can you sell him to my family? Just name a price, I won’t bargain…”
“I heard that he works in the underground business. I have a batch of slaves that I want to sell recently. Do you think he can help me sell them…”
To these noble children, a person like Douglas, who came from an unknown background, was no different from a wild dog.
Moreover, this was when they were talking before Armstrong. In private, their words were usually even harsher.
Douglas had experienced it ever since he was young.
Although he was an orphan adopted by the Trent family, he knew very well that he would always be an “outsider”.
As such, he was already numb to their insults.
He continued to lower his head, and waited for his young master’s instructions.
“Douglas, don’t mind what these guys said. They are drunk. Get up…” Armstrong laughed.
Douglas stood up. “Young master, that woman named Alice is very dangerous. I hope you can persuade your father. The Holy City is not to be trifled with…”
Bang!
Before he could finish his words, he was hit on the forehead by a goblet.

The moment Douglas raised his head, he was immediately greeted by Armstrong’s angry face. “Remember your position… Everything in the family is decided by my father and me. If you say anything more, I’ll banish you to the underground forever! Get lost! Go and finish your task!”
Douglas did not say anything. He wiped the red wine off his face and left.
…
At night, in one of the Trent family’s underground facilities…
Armstrong, who was wearing a white coat, was thinking in his laboratory.
The plan involving the Boosters was going rather successfully, but now that someone had thrown a wrench into their plans, it was no longer feasible to rely on the Boosters.
He needed to produce something even better.
He tossed his test tubes into the trash bin.
His experiment had ended in failure again. He banged the table and roared.
“Don’t be impatient… My dear genius…” A charming female voice rang out behind Armstrong.
“Who let you in?”
“Oh… So heartless. Didn’t you enter my room the same way last time?” Alice winked and put her hands on Armstrong’s shoulders.
Armstrong smiled and turned around to lift up Alice.
“My father?”
“He’s old, he can’t keep up with me. He’s currently sleeping like a dead pig…”
Ever since she had removed her inhibitions, Alice had become even more unscrupulous.
She wanted to dominate the father and son so that she could complete her revenge.
“Do you really wish to become my stepmother? Hahaha…” Armstrong kept his hands busy.
“It doesn’t matter… As long as I can achieve my goal, either one of you can marry me…” Alice could no longer hid her madness.
Armstrong was completely mesmerized by the crazy woman!
He realized that he was just as crazy as her!
“Don’t worry, I’m just one step away from achieving my goal. Once I’m successful, all the Beastmasters in the Holy City will have to obey my orders!”

…
Time flew by, and Locke, who had been studying in the Divine Class for a month, had experienced a huge increase in his knowledge.
He did not expect the world he was in to be so big!
The continent where the Federation was located was only a part of this world.
The map that Houbrick had drawn was a work of art.
It clearly depicted all the places he had been to and knew about.
There were simply too many places that interested Locke.
He looked forward to the day when he could go out and take a good look at this world.
“Hehe, it’s really like when I was young…” Hobrick commented at a distance.
John said, “Perhaps, Locke will inherit your aspiration and continue exploring the unknown for the betterment of the world.”
“Hmm… I’ve thought about this a long time ago. Although Locke is considered to be the strongest in the Holy City, there are still many Daemons and Beastmasters outside. He needs to become stronger…” Hobbrick responded.
Locke was still too young, and he had not faced enough opponents yet.
However, Hobrick had long discovered that Locke’s methods of training magical beasts were very superb, and his strength was increasing exponentially.
Although he wanted Locke to reveal his secrets, he refused every time.
He always skirt around the issue by giving a random excuse.
However, it was to be expected.
After all, he could not reveal the existence of his System.
…
Locke was taking a stroll in the campus, as he had nothing else to do.
After all their construction efforts, a decent square had been rebuilt.
This was also the only place where the students could relax now.
At this moment, Locke’s phone rang.
“Boss! I’ve prepared everything that you’ve asked for!” Dickens’ tone was very respectful.
“Thanks! It’s been hard on you. Keep it safe for me. I might order you to send it over at any time…”
Dickens was referring to the advancement materials for Lil’ White.
Locke felt that although all his Battle Beasts were plenty powerful, Lil’ White’s abilities were the most useful of the bunch.
As such, he decided to advance it first.
He believed that it would be a great boon for him.
On a side note, Locke was also very satisfied with Dickens.
Ever since this old man took over the Holy City’s underground, his business had been expanding.
With Locke backing him up, he was able to expand rapidly.
The black market was beginning to show signs of prosperity.
Every month, he would send a large sum of money to Locke.
Aside from that, Dickens would also send Locke his requested materials free of charge.
Locke calculated that, before long, he would be able to accumulate a considerable amount of wealth.
Life was going smoothly for him!
Just as Locke was rejoicing, a fat hand suddenly patted him on the shoulder.
Upon turning his head around, Locke was greeted by Lawrence and Rosetti!
“Hehe… Locke, long time no see!” Lawrence still had his trademark silly smile.

Ancient Bones: The Changed Ones book 1 (Post-Post Apocalypse LitRPG)
Is it truly an RPG Apocalypse... if no one can see the RPG? Generations after the Fall, Mankind has achieved a balance in a world it is no longer the master of. But your prospects in this Malthusian world are limited. Johanna Milton and her friends have an answer: delve into Ancient ruins, avoid Changed beasts and mana pockets, and salvage Ancient materials, collectibles, and trinkets to sell. It pays well if you avoid the perils of the Ancient world. But when they find the skeleton of an Ancient, their lives take a strange turn. Suddenly, Talents straight out of fantasy novels become theirs. While they try to make sense of what happens, eyes turn to them, to the four who seem to break all rules. Or are they merely following them? Because, in the Beyond where he's spent 150 years waiting, one dead Ancient knows the truth. Douglas Moore has played those games often enough when he was alive to make sense of the System that rules the Changed world. He can no longer act on his own, but he has access to the Interface. And four people for which he can bring whatever it takes to face the world. Change is coming. The Changed Ones is a slow-burn litrpg fantasy trilogy (Ancient Bones, Ancient Books, Ancient Bonds) set on Earth, 150 years after the RPG Apocalypse... which mostly failed. It is an homage to the venerable ancient RPGs of the Golden Box era, the Baldur's Gates, and many others, offering adventure where You must gather your party before venturing forth. Keywords: LitRPG, realistic setting, low-leveling, post-post-apocalypse, fantasy earth, slow-burn, secondary POVs, female primary MC, team adventure, worldbuilding. Trigger warnings: casual swearing, adult innuendo (no explicit scenes whatsoever, though). Oh, and potentially a bit of politics. Bonus content: a Litrpg Easter Egg hunt. With lots of eggs across the book, some easy, some hard to find. Current score: 6/20 (20 eggs, 6 found) Publication schedule: on hold until September for book 2.
