Chapter 170: An Alarming Moment

Bang!

Feng Luo’s second shot was still aimed at the eye of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander . Moreover, this time, the error rate was lower . After flying across around 200 meters, it hit above the left, bowl-sized eye of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander that was running .
Although its outer skin—especially the thick eyelid—had a strong defense, it did not mean the eyeball inside the eyelid had the same strength to resist the shot of the bullet . This shield-breaking energy bullet blew a hole in its left eye, dealing high yellow weak-point damage!
“Tsssttt!”
The Desert Rock Lizard let out a howl of pain . Its body, which was in the midst of high-speed running, could not help but tremble violently . Its four limbs, covered in yellow scales, stomped holes in the desert while its swaying tail swept sand and dust up to float in the air . And at that moment, inside the pitch black “wormhole,” the second green Spray Beetle crawled out .
Pu!
Another light-green spray of spit landed on the body of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander that was howling in pain . Another spray of spit—that debuffed targets, reduced stats, corroded opponents, and reduced speed—was stacked on the Desert Rock Lizard Commander’s body .
Although the spit of a normal Spray Beetle was incomparable to the spit of a Boss Spray Beetle, after stacking several times, the effects were also very powerful . The main factor was that the area hit by the spit would receive the “Corrosion” effect as poisonous liquid permeated the skin, reducing and weakening the strongest stat the Desert Rock Lizard relied on: its defense . It was almost the same as the effect of a Doctor using a debuff potion . It was important to note that Feng Luo was not fighting alone .
Bang!
The Eye of the Thunder rang again . Its firing rate far exceeded the Maximum Shooting of other normal sniper rifles . It reduced the gap of Feng Luo’s shots to only one second .
The shield-breaking energy bullet, emanating a light-blue glow, flew toward the bloodied left eye of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander that had not yet lost all of its function from a predicted yet incredibly difficult angle .

The bullet of the Eye of the Thunder was close to 900 meters per second . At such a short distance, it was pretty much instantaneous .
Again, this shot accurately hit the left eye of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander . The shield-breaking bullet, rotating at high speed, produced a powerful impact that blew off its eyeball after entering its eye, dealing over 4,000 damage .
Two continuous weak-point damage attacks took out around 8,000 of its HP . From the looks of things, even if this Desert Rock Lizard Commander’s HP was as high as 50,000, taking it down did not seem that difficult . Right?
Apart from that, within the wormhole, another dark green Spray Beetle crawled out and began attacking the Desert Rock Lizard Commander with its spit attacks . The three Spray Beetles were almost at Level 30, and Feng Luo’s output created several corroded spots on the Desert Rock Lizard’s yellow skin and super-high defense scales, changing the color spot by spot . However, if a Commander-grade monster only had this ability, it would not be an enemy that players regarded as something that was practically impossible to solo .
Bang!
Feng Luo’s third shield-breaking energy bullet flew off . This time, it was also very well-executed . The only difference was that the target had switched to the good right eye of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander . For him, this sort of close-range, stationary shot was almost guaranteed to hit as long as the external effects weren’t too great .
Dong!
However, just as the light-blue shield-breaking energy bullet had almost hit the target…
“Roar!”
A translucent yellow energy shield appeared over the body of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander that had become enraged after having one of its eyes shot out . This shield-breaking energy bullet, which was as accurate as the previous shot, hit the earth energy shield . Energy clashed against energy . Although the shot made the Desert Rock Lizard Commander’s energy shield tremble, it remained sturdy .
Energy shield!
Feng Luo was shocked . Not every monster in War possessed energy shields . Only when the entity had the ability to manipulate energy would the entity be able to cast an energy shield . And most monsters that possessed energy shields had ways to initiate long-range attacks themselves!

This is going to be trouble!
The earth energy shield appeared and enveloped the large body of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander within it . After that, it glared viciously at Feng Luo with its remaining yellow eye while stomping all four of its thick but short limbs violently on the sandy ground . Then it started charging toward Feng Luo again .
Pu!
Pu!
Pu!
The attacks of the three Spray Beetles continued . The only issue was that after the Desert Rock Lizard Commander cast the energy shield, the poisonous liquid that could inflict the corrosion effect and reduce movement speed could only land on the shield; not only did they stop dealing damage, but they could not even delay it anymore . It was because this type of energy shield could theoretically block all physical and energy attacks!
Moreover, at that moment, the Desert Rock Lizard Commander had already charged within 150 meters from Feng Luo .
Bang!
Although Feng Luo was shocked, he did not panic . The Eye of the Thunder in his hands still maintained its steady rate of fire . Although the energy shield was powerful, it had a maximum damage limit . The moment that limit was breached, or if it suffered an extremely powerful special attack, the shield would break . Moreover, even if it were a Boss, it was impossible to continuously create shields within such a short period of time .
However, just after he shot a shield-breaking energy bullet, he sensed something dangerous and fatal from beneath his feet .
Danger!
Without any hesitation, Feng Luo grabbed the Eye of the Thunder and leaped sideways .
Boom!
A 1 . 5-meter yellow Energy Earth Spike with a five-centimeter diameter pierced upward from under the sand in Feng Luo’s previous location . Sand and dust filled the air . The spike just missed Feng Luo by a hair’s breadth—a difference of just a few milliseconds .
If Feng Luo had been hit by that spike, one could only imagine the result…
As expected, it has long-range attacks! Cold sweat appeared on Feng Luo’s forehead . Commander-grade monsters sure are difficult to deal with .
More importantly, a system notification flashed across his visual field . A Spray Beetle had died!
One of three Spray Beetles was pierced by an Earth Spike as if it were a skewer of Mala Tang!
The carapace of the Spray Beetle that did not have much defense in the first place—coupled with its low HP of around 2,000—could not withstand a casual energy attack from the Commander-grade monster .
“I can only fight!”
Feng Luo had no choice . As he directed 24K to command the remaining two Spray Beetles to run away and hide behind a sandhill through the mental link, he simultaneously cast Quick Sneak and moved quickly sideways .
At the same time, the Eye of the Thunder in Feng Luo’s hands did not stop moving . He fired another shield-breaking energy bullet at the Desert Rock Lizard Commander .
Bzzzt!
The bullet triggered the 15 percent probability rare effect of the Eye of the Thunder and was laced with blue and white electricity!
The only problem was that even if it were a shield-breaking energy bullet that was laced with a bonus attack, when it hit the energy shield covering the huge body of the Desert Rock Lizard Commander, it was just a white electrical current that spread across the outer layer of the yellow energy shield . The defense of the earth energy shield was the strongest among the four elements to begin with, not to mention the fact that the Desert Rock Lizard Commander’s strongest stat was the defense stat .
The situation reminded Feng Luo of the time where they had been surrounded the Steel Beetle Boss back in the Town of Exile . Faced with such a complete energy shield, absent certain types of attacks, it was quite difficult to break through it with cumulative damage alone .
Luckily, he actually had a special type of attack .
At that moment, the fourth and fifth beetles finally crawled out of the black “wormhole . ”
Two gray beetles around the size of half a fist with round, metallic gray bodies appeared . Under their expanded and tough beetle wings, translucent inner wings flapped at high speed . As soon as they exited the wormhole, they flew toward the Desert Rock Lizard Commander .

Polly and Drake
Drake has been searching for a job as a personal guard, but wherever he turns, he is kicked out without fail. It's not that he's terrible with weapons, or inattentive. It could be because of his obvious racial heritage. Or because of Polly. With his funds dwindling, the only remaining option is to become one of the Cursed: poor souls that work for the Dragoneye Guild. In other lands, they may be called adventurers, saviors or even heroes, but not in the White Desert. Here, they are shunned and ignored. Depraved people who forsook their humanity for money and fame. With this choice, Drake may not only fall from grace, but also become one of only a few thousands capable of unearthing the secrets of ancient times. If he could get this guardsman notion out of his head. May contain gore, violence, profanity and traumatising content. Taking another shoot at this writing business. I write for fun and when I have time. There is no plan. The story may change drastically from what it starts out - or not. We'll see what happens. Currently, I'm aiming for a Slice of Life with LitRPG elements at a later time.

MAZE - The Endless Quest
As all kids do, Hera wanted to be an explorer. Sadly when she turned 18, she discovered that her stats and lack of skills made her fail the requirements to become one, and she went to work on a bookstore. That should have been the end of her story. But when she wins a lottery to have her level up, she discovers a hidden skill and a rare one at that. The system gave her dream back, and this time she is not letting it go. ############################## The story is about a world where game-like systems are the norm. Everyone has a level, status, and even skills are a common thing. If your stats are good, you can also become an explorer, someone that ventures inside a place called MAZE, a dungeon of sorts filled with monsters, creatures, and things that the natural world is missing, such as magic and demi-humans. The story follows Hera, a woman who wanted to be an explorer, but her status were too low to become one. One day she wins a raffle that allows her to level up for the first time giving her the chance to achieve her childhood dream. It's more about how things work and what you can do with them than about power or revenge. The rhythm might be a bit slow for some, but that is the idea. I want to give sort of a slice of life feeling to most of it.
