Fatal Shot Chapter 223

Chapter 223: Two Slices!
A dim, blurred half-moon had just snuck out from behind the rolling dark clouds in the sky .
Under the glow of the moonlight, this large-framed Heavy Armor Warrior running out from the dark forest without any cover had an eerie tinge of green in his pair of cold eyes . As he raised his shield, it could be seen that on the surface of the skin across his whole bare upper body was covered in thick brown hair .
This “person” who had unhesitatingly charged head-on after discovering Feng Luo’s position on the map, looked like a human-shaped monster .
Correct—it was a “humanoid monster”!
Only rebel soldiers who had received biological, technological gene modification would have such mutated biological characteristics on their bodies . After all, the participants of this mission were of four types: normal players, the Agent mission investigators, the rebel army, and the NPCs . It was obvious that this was a genetically modified beast warrior of the rebellion .
This rebel beast warrior, with green light shining from his eyes, only paused for a short moment upon running out of the forest before raising his gigantic alloy shield and running straight toward the rock which was Feng Luo’s hiding position . It was as if the dimly lit environment was not much of a hindrance to his vision .
Very clearly, his glowing green eyes under the moonlight were the same as those of wolves and cheetahs, offering vision enhancement effects in dark, poorly lit environments by concentrating the weak, scattered rays of light in the surrounding .
It was not even 30 meters from the forest to the position where Feng Luo was back-facing the reef rock . Therefore, this rebel beast Heavy Armor Warrior had already found, in just a few seconds the position, where Feng Luo had been while checking the map .
However, at that moment, the spot was empty with only sand and a trail of footprints—there was nobody at all .
But a trail of footprints? Clearly, the rebel beast warrior had already seen this . And so, he stopped in his tracks about seven to eight meters from the rock, with the alloy shield in his hand raised up high to protect himself . Then he raised his head up straight, staring directly at the rock with his cold, green-glowing eyes, slowly advancing .

As the sea wind howled, the waves at the side crashed against the reef rock, making low rumbling noises . The huge rock, almost 17 to 18 meters tall, which had been made slippery by the crashing waves and sea wind, could not be climbed within such a short period of time even by the most agile Scout .
And so, at last, the sight of the rebel beast warrior fell onto the big, black hole about five meters above ground on top of the giant rock, large enough for a person to hide curled up inside .
It was very obvious that Feng Luo had miscalculated this time .
In another environment, hiding in a position above the enemy then suddenly striking, was highly likely to create a surprise effect! Because in such a dark environment, a person’s focus would fall on places below eye-level . But this was a beach environment! Without the high-tide, it was impossible to erase the only remaining line of combat boot footprints on the ground, stretching all the way to the bottom of the black hole .
But was it really a miscalculation?
Just then, the moon in the sky was once again covered by the rolling, dark clouds . The light rays on the beach were instantly darkened!
“Tch!”
In the almost pitch-black darkness—with the loud rumbling sound caused by the howling sea wind and the waves crashing against the reef rock—there came a soft slashing sound of a sharp weapon behind the neck of the rebel beast warrior as he raised his head to look at the rock!
−2288
Blood splattered out of the rebel’s neck . Subsequently appearing in front of his sight was an unaffected, gray-coated knife blade that caused a D+ grade attack coefficient!
A yellow damage number appeared above the head of the rebel beast warrior, acting as a backdrop to the shock in those green-glowing eyes of his .
******
Seconds crept by .
When the rebel beast warrior, raising his alloy shield, had run to the side of the giant rock to make a vigilant stop, at about 10 over meters from him, a black silhouette had crept out from the seawater, which appeared black due to the angle of the moonlight, with his combat uniform all wet .

Thereafter, just when the rebel beast warrior’s sight landed on the rock, unable to clearly see the inside of the big, black hole due to its height, the black silhouette holding a dagger with a blade length of more than 25 centimeters, held reversely in his hand, felt his way to less than five meters behind the rebel beast warrior . Similarly, due to the moon’s angle in the sky, his slanted shadow cast on the sand had been entirely behind him, completely unnoticeable by the rebel Heavy Armor Warrior .
Then, just as the moon in the sky was once again covered by the dark clouds and the surrounding light rays darkened for a moment, the black silhouette moved all of a sudden!
With a burst of energy in his feet, he made a dash as fast as lightning, closing the last bit of distance . The dagger in his hand whooshed through the air and brought out an afterimage with its speed . From behind, it swiftly backhandedly sliced the throat of the beast warrior!
******
Feng Luo had thought long before of the fact that the sand could not cover footprints at all, and the hole in the rock would have been very easily discovered by the enemy, too . Thus, in the course of a few seconds, what he had really done was to climb out of the hole in the rock, then jump from the hole into the seawater . With the constant, loud noise of the waves crashing against the reef rock, it was enough to conceal the sound created by this series of actions!
Due to the problem of the angle of the moonlight, his slow circling while hiding beneath the seawater would also have been very difficult to detect by someone on the beach . In addition, with the Quick Sneak skill engaged even before emerging from the water, it was as if no sound of footsteps at all was produced as he ran on the soft sand! And so, this “fatal” blade would have been very difficult to escape even if it had been aimed at him .
“Argh!”
The throat of the rebel beast warrior was sliced with one slash, and shock appeared in his green, glowing eyes, as if he had never even considered that the enemy might not emerge from above the rock but instead attack from the back!
But with his throat cut and with blood spilling out, this fellow still had strength remaining for retaliation .
Peng!
His right hand, larger than that of an average person by a third and covered with thick brown hair, threw an elbowed behind him, hitting Feng Luo heavily in the stomach!
−1330
Cough!
Feng Luo felt his stomach convulse, and his whole body contracted backward from the intense pain . The strength of the beast warrior’s barehanded attack had reduced his HP by a whole third .
The Warrior was the only profession that could produce such a highly powerful close-range attack with just a bare hand!
Feng Luo did not understand why his mighty slash hadn’t caused this fellow to fall and did not cause life-ending damage! But, when drafting this tactic, Feng Luo had already prepared for this point .
Thus, despite being hit by this elbow, his bodily reaction to pain—always being 100-percent ready—was extremely great . Feng Luo showed no sign of retreating at all as he held up the Mad Dog military knife in his hand and fiercely sliced at the throat of the rebel beast warrior once more!
−3355
This time, it was a blood-red-colored number that had appeared above the head of the rebel beast warrior .
Red lethal damage!

I had only a few goals when I joined the army: March into battle, kick ass, and earn me some cash! Achieving glory on the way wouldn’t hurt. I just need the money to feed my little brother and sister. Their world is all I want to protect. The glory is for washing clean the stains that my father left on the family name. We became such a joke in the country that our mother abandoned us. I don’t know if he really did betray the country, but I don’t care. For my little siblings to suffer the same mockery and humiliation that I did is unacceptable! To protect the smiles of my only family, I would do anything. Yet, life knows to shit on you when things are just getting good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, author-san here! This is my first story, set up in a fantasy world. It's based on the medieval and steam era where magic is rare and alchemy is used widely used as a weapon by people. There would be lots of action, adventure, betrayal, tragedy, romance, etc. ahead. Warnings-The mc is a bit mean and foul-mouthed, introvert. There would be strong language and lots of monologue narration by the MC. The stories are fast-paced and progressing faster. The chapters update would be unstable, depending on my daily life. You would get fast updates... or slow. Also, English isn't my first language. So don't expect perfect grammar :( P.S. - I would like some constructive critique and feedback! It fills my motivation gauge and increases that rate of chapter/week. (/>3

Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.
