Chapter 563: Evolution of Viral Infected Organisms
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
“It’s not a bad fit.” Feng Luo was standing a few meters away, observing through a Scout beetle.
In the energy nuclei of the five cave spiders, they successfully obtained four Commander-Grade beetles.
This result was very out of his expectations. Initially, he thought getting one or two species to Commander-Grade was not bad. He never thought that his luck was overflowing.
Other than his first Scout beetle which was used for testing and had subsequently failed, the other four high-quality and Elite beetles had successfully evolved to Commander-Grade.
Blade, Steel, Spray, Scout, Collector… Now he owned five Commander-Grade beetles, three of which were combat-type.
Naturally, Feng Luo had wanted to test their combat power immediately after obtaining three Commander-Grade combat beetles.
Feng Luo decided to survey the surrounding environment for monsters in order to keep the beetle nest safe and, as it just so happened, he managed to brush off some of the high-threat monsters along the way. It was a boar-hunting operation. From this battle, Feng Luo was very satisfied.
Although being a herd monster (of ants, and bees; wild boars did not count as such types), the Commander-Grade beetle’s fighting power was worse than other Commander-Grade monsters. From the potential displayed by these few Commander-Grade combat beetles, they definitely would not lose to a same-level Commander-Grade pet.
If you simply called for three Commander-Grade combat beetles, 24K usage of psionics was not excessive, they would be able to sustain it for longer than an hour at least.
It was almost the equivalent of having three pets.
Of course, there was still a difference between them and Commander-Grade pets.
After all, these beetles were a one-off thing. Once they died in battle, they would be gone. As for the player’s pet, they could be revived upon death, there would be far more scruples about them.
However, in any case, Feng Luo was satisfied. He had more to expect from the Nine-Star Guild’s “Ruins Wastelands” operations.

…
Within the woods, the battle was over.
If that Level 39 Commander-Grade “Wild Boar King” was at the same level as the Commander-Grade beetle, its potential should be superior. However, because all three beetles were of a higher level as compared to it, their combat potential was about the same.
But the AI which controlled that wild boar did not pass, during the process it was wildly charging with the steel beetle, it was constantly being attacked by the Spray beetle. Even if this guy had an insanely high health point capacity of 70,000, the Spray beetle’s poison attack would lower it unreasonably after several seconds, since it was far superior than an Elite. When it finally sensed the danger, it tried to escape.
The already-wounded Blade beetle pierced the heart directly with the tail of the licker tongue, and finally contributed a commanding crystal core, as well as energy crystals worth hundreds of credit points.
Feng Luo’s experience bar, also moved forward by a little again.
“Squeak, squeak?” At this time, however, 24K on his shoulder suddenly stopped gnawing at the crystal, as it fiercely shouted another two times.
“Growl!”
The vegetation around Feng Luo was suddenly split, and an enormous creature with blood-shot eyes and a saliva-dropping mutt creature walked out.
It was a mutt because this creature looked like a dog, but its fur was spotted and there were clear signs of decay. There were two meatball-like objects growing on the side of its neck and looked like two smaller heads protruding from the creature.
As it saw Feng Luo, this creature’s blood shot eyes took on a murderous look, as if it saw a prey, and the saliva in its mouth became more thick.
“Three-headed Mutant Mutt, Level 50 Elite, been through evolutionary viral infection, HP:10000/10000…” Through the scope, the information immediately appeared.
The Level 50 Elite onster was not at all threatening to Feng Luo.
Although its level was higher, its combat strength could not compare to the Wild Boar King, which had just fallen a few metres away.

“It’s an infected creature.” However, upon observing the description and the type of this Mutt Mutant, Feng Luo was especially interested.
Evolutionary viral infection, this was a new monster term.
This was precisely due to the plot from the “Resident Evil” storyline from half a month ago.
A plot as historical as Resident Evil’s naturally would be limited to within ten cities and create only a small commotion.
Although federal forces condoned the ten cities that had outbreaks almost immediately, the T-virus was constantly spreading to its surroundings through means such as flying birds and transmission through animals, and the target of infection was spread from man to the various creatures.
Of course, because the T-virus was primarily an evolutionary variant of humans, animals did not necessarily mutate significantly after being infected by it. Moreover, because of the high variability of evolutionary viruses, the T-virus in many organisms had become “evolutionary virus variants” of other properties. Thus, this generality was a given.
Just like the giant pythons which Feng Luo first met in the Red Queen’s missions, the blood and saliva of such creatures also had the power to cause infection to evolve.
Feng Luo had the complete resistance towards “Preliminary evolved virus” and the Life Protozoa to fight against the “Intermediate-stage evolved virus.” As such, he was not worried about such infectious creatures.
One of his main concerns was whether the beetle group would be able to be infected.
The location of the canyon nest was near the Lushi Group site.
The epicenter of the biochemical crisis, Silvermoon City, was not far from here so the amount of “infected creatures” were quite common.
In the event that some kind of evolutionary virus variant infected the beetle population… especially those Commander-Grade beetles, if they turn uncontrollable after being infected, then the losses would definitely not be low. However, the uncontrollable would probably not appear right… Feng Luo frowned, as he suddenly recalled something.
Initially, for the second Scout beetle which he hatched, he was using a gold python which was infected by the T-virus as an ingredient in order to hatch it. As a result, that Scout beetle had a one-time infection skill that could infect a target with the T-virus.
This special Scout beetle had already risen to level 40 while keeping its rating, and there were also no instances of loss of control.
From this point, the beetle bunch might have the capability to resist against evolving viruses. Hence, even after being infected, they might not be affected.
“Growl…”
The Mutant Mutt stared at Feng Luo, as the murderous look was revealed again in its eyes.
He fiercely pounced towards the direction of Feng Luo, its speed was a lot faster than that Wild Boar King, those two meatballs at its neck was vibrating intensely.
“Bang!”
“-10000!”
The hunter gun sounded as blood, mixed with the brain juices, flew out and everywhere.
The Mutant Mutt flew a distance after being blown off the middle of the head by a powerful bullet, as it twitched to the ground, popping up a pair of fine 50-class gloves and two crystal fragments.
“You killed an evolutionary viral infection creature and gained 450 Experience, Resident Evil Plot Points: 4,Merit points: 1.”
Feng Luo placed down the Deathwing which was in his hands.
These infected organisms were generally highly aggressive to humans, but the loot and experiences that came out from it were also very sumptuous.
In particular, the Elite monsters which were level 50 and above had merit points and plot points. This was likely to be the stepping stone of the “Biochemical Crisis” plot to develop.
This historic plot details were not over.

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
