Chapter 1197: The Desert, The Blood Red Setting Sun
Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
“Hiss…”
When a large group of players arrived at the battlefield from Dragon Gate Inn, all of them sucked in sharp breaths. They were deeply shocked by the scene before their eyes.
“This is the desert palace?”
“What a huge pit!”
“I heard that the people from the dao of heaven came out of this pit, but by the looks of it, the desert palace has already been buried by quicksand. You’ll only be able to enter the desert palace in your dreams now.”
More people arrived at the high spots on the sand hills. They looked down at the big quicksand pit that was several miles wide and thousands of feet deep. They could not stop the chills crawling down their spines, and neither could they stop sighing about it.
A long time had passed since they obtained the news, even so, the quicksand had still not managed to fill up the palace under the palace completely, and this just showed how large was the palace hidden under the desert.
Many people began wondering how the desert palace looked like.
But they would not be able to guess just how brutal and insane the death traps in the desert palace were. At most, they could only sigh at the huge pit before them like normal people while they began to let their imaginations run free, though it was absolutely pointless to do so.
“Look!”
“Look over there!”
The temperature in the desert was extremely high, and no one could see far ahead. Heatwaves rose from the land far into the distance, and they could not see what was around.
But many people still looked over in the direction of the sound, and they could see something piled up under the sand across the magnificent quicksand. They were packed densely together, and they looked like tiny sand bumps.
“Let’s go over and look!”
“There’s saber glares over there. Tiger Soul might be in that direction! Let’s go!”
Many people in the crowd instantly became restless.
A lot of them did not even say a word. They just executed their lightness skills and stepped on the soft, rolling sand to circumnavigate the quicksand pit to get closer to the battlefield. They traveled 22 feet or 26 feet with each step they took.
As these people took the lead and stimulated them, a dense wave of people charged down the sandhills. Some of them tried to gain an advantage ahead of the others and even ignored their companions’ advice. They used their lightness skill to charge in a straight line, going above the quicksand. When they were near the center of the quicksand, they were struck by a strange fog, and without making a single sound, they fell into the quicksand. Then, slowly, those who had the thought of going over the quicksand gave up on that thought.
“This is…”
When the first group of people arrived on the opposite side of the quicksand, they were shocked once again by the scene in front of them. However, this time, their shock was accompanied by terror.
Before them was a few miles of flat land, and it was now like a rag cloth that was a mix of red and yellow colors, because the blood that had spilled on the ground had not completely dyed the yellow sand red. A thick scent of blood wafted in the air, and it was extremely pungent.
As for the dense bumps they saw just now that stretched out for miles? Naturally, they belonged to the Embroidered Uniform Guards who died in battle.

Thousands of corpses filled their field of vision! Many of the visions were not even in complete shape. Torn limbs were exposed in the desert, and they were already covered in a layer of thin sand, but the blood from their wounds had not completely dried yet, and it still looked very horrifying.
When they walked over this place, which looked like a mass grave in the desert, even the courageous ones felt chills down their spines.
“This was all done by a single person?”
Those who were observant soon noticed that many people were cut in half when they were together, and the area of attack was very large. There were also times where multiple people were killed in a single line. The sand and wind were unable to immediately bury the trenches that were formed by the saber glare.
The trenches were dozens of feet wide, dozens of feet long, and dozens of feet deep. It was not difficult for them to sense the power in the slashes, and they knew just how difficult it would be to block them.
Further down were deep and long trenches intersecting with each other. They changed the layout of the desert.
The people in the crowd began whispering to each other.
“Tiger Soul! This is definitely the might of Tiger Soul!”
“I heard that even the people in the dao of heaven can’t withstand the power of a slash from Tiger Soul. If we manage to snatch this peerless demon vessel over, it’ll be even more effective than any ultimate technique.”
“That’s right!
“The alliance master of Heaven and Earth Alliance was shot down by a group of normal Embroidered Uniform Guards, and in the end, the owner of Tiger Soul changed. So why can’t we snatch Tiger Soul from that stupid transgendered woman?”
“I refuse to believe that we won’t be able to whittle him down with arrows and poison!”
“Let’s go!”
There was a saying that went like this, “When something was repeated enough times, it would become the truth.”
Once the first fearless person appeared, more people who did not fear death appeared. This was the perfect epitome of how people would die for money.
When more parties started heading to the dazzling and piercing lights from weapons closeby, many people knew that the sight of the corpses littered all over the ground could no longer stop these people.
Boom!
With one loud sound, a tiger-shaped saber glare that was more than 162 feet long brushed past the alliance master’s body. It created a magnificent trench on the ground.
For a period of time, dust flew all over the air!
These two people were once again hidden by sand that danced in the air, and they became mere blurry figures.
Aside from seeing the remaining force from the saber glare that shot out from within the sand cloud occasionally, most of the people could not see what exactly was going on in the fight when they gathered in the place. They could only tell that it was really intense judging by the sounds they made when they fought.
As these two top-class martial artists in the dao of heaven fought, they caused a circular area of 328 feet around them to turn into an area where no living beings stood.
Phantasmal Shadow and her group had originally stayed in the area, but they had long since lost their courage because of how many people were killed. They retreated until they were behind a sand hill one-third of a mile away and cautiously looked out to watch the progress of the fight between these two people in the dao of heaven. They did not even dare to show their faces within Dongfang Bubai’s field of vision.

The devastating sight of the Embroidered Uniform Guards and the players dying just now was fresh in their memories. They did not want to be torn to shreds by Dongfang Bubai.
“Tower Master, look! Over there…”
When a tower member informed her of this, Phantasmal Shadow quickly noticed that a black line had suddenly appeared at the horizon across them in the vast desert, and it was swiftly becoming thicker!
“Someone’s coming.”
“They should have come a long time ago. We’ve been causing a huge ruckus over here. Heh… there’s quite a lot of them.” The group had been hiding carefully to avoid Dongfang Bubai from finding them, and they had been very cautious. Now, when Wu Kuo saw the large group of dense black dots that suddenly appeared in the distance, his eyes lit up. His tone became relaxed as well. “Now, Dongfang Bubai is about to slaughter a large group of people again.”
“It’ll be good if he uses up more of his true qi…” Phantasmal Shadow said. Then, she instructed the tower members behind her. “Send a messenger pigeon to the members who are coming over. Have them stay as far away as possible. Don’t get targeted by Dongfang Bubai, and tell them to gather with us here.”
“Understood!”
The group understood that the only thing they could do right now was to gather together and organize their forces. It was only then that they would have the chance to take advantage of the situation and get Tiger Soul in the end.
The tens of thousands of players who were rushing into the battlefield from Dragon Gate Inn clearly did not know what sort of dangerous place they were about to enter. They were still thinking about having the people in the dao of heaven fight against each other while they launched ambushes by the side and took advantage of the situation in the end.
But before they could get close to the battlefield belonging to Dongfang Bubai, the alliance master, and Tsao Suiyan, suddenly, a violent stream shot out from the sand-covered battlefield.
Whoosh!
The wind traveled forward madly, and sand as well as wind danced everywhere.
Many players did not even know what had happened. They only saw a violent layer of wind suddenly surging out of the battlefield across them, and with it was sand that covered the entire area. It filled every inch of the air while it came rolling toward them.
Most of the people did not understand what happened.
While some people were wary, the people around them were all in Inaction Realm and friends they trusted. They did not notice the threat contained in the flying sand. Hence, they only activated their body fortifications and qi realms. Then, they threw a few throwing knives at it to test waters.
In the end, the throwing knives entered the cloud of dust like mud dissolving in water. No reaction could be seen.
As the wind blew at the sand, in an instant, it traveled hundreds of feet forward.
When the sand arrived in front of them, the players saw the alliance master and Tsao Suiyan chasing after the sand hastily, and some of the players finally realized that the situation was not right.
“What’s this thing?!”
“Careful!”
“Dongfang Bubai!”
“Tiger Soul is in his hands!”
Cries of surprise rose and fell…
But unfortunately, Dongfang Bubai had removed himself from the battlefield and escaped from fighting against the two people in the dao of heaven. He spent less than a breath to be able to arrive in front of the players, and the players did not have time to set up any other defenses.
“ROAR!”
As a low and brutal roar of a beast rose, and an incredibly callous and sinister presence charged at them from the raging sand.
Hiss!
The snow-white saber glare carried with an oppressive and despair-inducing momentum. Like a saber cutting at water, it cut into the yellow sand in front of it. A tiger’s head appeared before countless players’ field of vision.
“Careful!”
“Ah!”
A warning cry rose, and many people lost their wits due to fear because of the might from Tiger Soul’s saber glare. Right when they wanted to turn around, the sharp saber glare charged past their bodies.
The players in the distance saw this clearly.
A blood-red saber glare cut into more than one hundred players’ bodies without any resistance, and it moved along the yellow sand.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Blood flew in the air, and corpses that had lost their vitality fell on the yellow sand like torn leather after they remained standing in the air for several seconds. Then, a thin layer of sand brought over by the wind covered their bodies.
At the moment their corpses fell on the ground, the red cloud had already jumped over the corpse-filled ground with a whistle. Saber glares intersected with each other, and they cut into another direction.
It was brutal, cruel, bloody, and ruthless!
Every time Dongfang Bubai attacked, the bewitching, red light contained in Tiger Soul would become brighter. Dongfang Bubai seemed to have become completely immersed in the pleasure of killing. He continued attacking nonstop. Time and again, he moved to places with lots of people and started executing long-distance slashes fearlessly.
Whoosh…
Wherever the howling wind went to, count people would die!
In the next moment, the Chinese players and West Region players who came from the former Dragon Gate Inn were intimidated by Dongfang Bubai’s brutal methods. Their expressions turned stark pale, and without another word, they left. They did not dare to face the person in red robes who moved like a red cloud in the crowd.
“Why are you running?!”
“No matter how strong he is, he’s just one man! Why are you scared of him—”
“Everyone, use your hidden weapons to fight against him! As long as we can block his attacks for a moment, the alliance master and Tsao Suiyan will arrive, and I refuse to believe that he will be able to parry our attacks by then!”
Someone spoke up in the crowd, and his words instantly reminded the people of this fact.
Right after he finished speaking, some people resolutely attacked. Throwing knives and poison needles were thrown in Dongfang Bubai’s direction.
No matter what, Dongfang Bubai was alone, and he could only chase after the people in one direction. The people who did not face his threat imitated these people and started attacking.
Perhaps when one or ten people attacked Dongfang Bubai, they would not be able to pose a threat to him, but when hundreds of people attacked at the same time, the situation instantly turned incredibly grand! The weapons turned into a huge hand that was filled with killing intent behind Dongfang Bubai, and it charged at him in an endless stream.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
