Chapter 548: 548
Chapter 548 Cultivation Years
In the blink of an eye, three years had passed .
Ever since his son, Meng An, headed to the outer realm, Meng Chuan’s true body in the outer realm’s Ancient Magus River Zone had been cultivating in the Chaos Hole’s depths for a long time . He cultivated in a region where time flowed 70-fold faster . Although he could stay in a region where time flowed 80-fold faster with his greatly enhanced body and Essence Soul, the region where time flowed 70-fold faster placed a smaller burden on him . It was much more suitable for long-term cultivation .
In fact, cultivating in a Chaos Hole’s depths would affect one’s Essence Soul and mental state . Weak Tribulation Eminences didn’t dare to cultivate in a Chaos Hole’s depths for too long . However, Ancestral Master Archean Eon had never mentioned this in his dossiers . This was because Ancestral Master Archean Eon knew very well that the Chaos Hole’s influence was an external one .
A harsh environment could temper one’s mind . If one’s mind could withstand a Chaos Hole’s influence, it would only improve further . If one couldn’t even withstand a Chaos Hole’s influence, their achievements would be limited .
Meng Chuan had originally been affected for over 300 years before breaking free of the Chaos Hole’s influence . After painting ‘Backbone,’ his Essence Soul had improved greatly . The Chaos Hole’s influence on my mental state is a form of tempering to the present me . My mind will only become stronger . Due to the fact his mind could be strengthened, Meng Chuan liked to cultivate in the Chaos Hole .
Powerful swords needed to be tempered and sharpened . Suitable tempering only boosted one’s cultivation .
In reality, Meng Chuan had been cultivating in the Chaos Hole for over 200 years despite only three years passing outside .
His fourth Essence Soul Tribulation had finally descended .
The first three Essence Soul Tribulations were separated by a year at least . Therefore, Meng Chuan reached the Essence Soul Third Tribulation realm at the fastest speed possible .
After the third tribulation…
Every tribulation was separated by 100 years at least .
As for Meng Chuan, 200 years passed since he transcended the third tribulation before the fourth Essence Soul Tribulation finally descended upon him .

My fourth Essence Soul Tribulation didn’t arrive in the shortest time possible .
This means that my Essence Soul is probably at the Fourth Tribulation realm . It still hasn’t reached the Fifth Tribulation realm yet . Meng Chuan understood this point . If one’s mind, Essence Soul World, and various aspects had reached the Fifth Tribulation realm, the fourth tribulation would arrive in the shortest time possible . Of course, he also understood the general level of his Essence Soul because of his experiments at Heaven and Earth Great Hall .
Only when the fourth Essence Soul Tribulation descended upon Meng Chuan did he truly understand why Tribulation Eminences were afraid of Heavenly Tribulations .
He transcended the first three tribulations very easily . However, the fourth tribulation made him suffer quite a bit .
Boom!
His sea of consciousness had long transformed into an Essence Soul World .
In the Essence Soul World, there were grasslands, deserts, flowers, birds, and beasts . There were also battles between beasts, as well as living beings surviving inside…
Meng Chuan’s Essence Soul transformed into a person sitting cross-legged in the middle of the world .
On this day, fire descended from the sky .
The flames descended upon the Essence Soul World in his sea of consciousness, burning a 50-kilometer radius around his Essence Soul .
Boom!
There was no way for Meng Chuan to escape the tribulation . The flames burned every inch of his Essence Soul, preventing any Essence Soul thoughts from escaping .
He could only sit cross-legged and silently resist .
Boundless pain filled his consciousness . This was the highest level of pain Meng Chuan had ever experienced . The flames burned every Essence Soul thought, causing them to collapse in terrifying pain . New Essence Soul thoughts were born after every collapse .
Fire of the heart . Burning my Essence Soul is also a way to temper my heart . Meng Chuan’s Essence Soul sat cross-legged in his sea of consciousness’s Essence Soul World . Despite the pain spreading, his heart remained as cold as ice .
He had experienced too much since he was young . His willpower and mind were already extremely strong .
The flames burned for three days; however, Meng Chuan felt like the flames had burned him for an eternity .
Whoosh .
The flames receded .
The Tribulation Fire burned his Essence Soul for three entire days . It was painful torture, but it also tempered his Essence Soul . As a result, Meng Chuan’s Essence Soul had become much stronger . He absorbed Outer Realm Essence Crystals to replenish his strength; he realized that his Essence Soul’s strength had reached a new peak .

“This is only the fourth Essence Soul Tribulation . How terrifying is the fifth Essence Soul Tribulation, which is supposed to be more than ten times harder?” Meng Chuan muttered . “Cultivation in the Tribulation realm is indeed difficult . ”
Only by creating an Imperial Lord-level paramount technique could one rapidly advance to the Fifth Tribulation realm . Even so, Meng Chuan felt that it was becoming harder and harder for him to advance .
After creating an Imperial Lord-level paramount technique, he was considered the most monstrous genius in the River of Spacetime . However, even he began finding cultivation difficult as he approached the Fifth Tribulation realm .
It was obvious how difficult it was for ordinary Tribulation Eminences—who were groping in the dark—to reach the Fifth Tribulation realm . Even the proud Emperor Roc had long become a Fifth Tribulation Eminence’s follower . He hoped that his cultivation path would be smoother with an expert’s guidance .
In the same era, two to three river systems gave birth to a Fifth Tribulation Eminence on average . This ratio also proved the difficulty of cultivation .
After winning the war, Meng Chuan had cultivated in the Chaos Hole’s depths for over 200 years . After spending more than 30 years, Meng Chuan raised his Infinite Saber to the Heaven Earth realm’s middle stage . As he had previously been stuck at a bottleneck, he had created quite a few saber moves . His accumulated insights were sufficiently profound, which was why Infinite Saber could reach the Heaven Earth realm’s middle stage so quickly .
After spending more than 180 years, he finally raised his Infinite Saber to the Heaven Earth realm’s late stage . Strictly speaking, not long after transcending the fourth Essence Soul Tribulation, Meng Chuan’s Infinite Saber reached the Heaven Earth realm’s late stage .
“You want to confirm your strength again?” The white-robed elder looked at Meng Chuan, who was inside Heaven and Earth Great Hall .
Meng Chuan nodded . “Yes . ”
“Make your move . ” The white-robed elder pointed at the cyan pillar . “You know the rules . ”
Meng Chuan held his breath and waited .
Ever since his Infinite Saber reached the Heaven Earth realm’s late stage, he had gained more confidence . His body had also become stronger thanks to using Infinite Saber as his foundation . He wasn’t far from becoming a perfected Primordial Imperial Lord .
Father only has less than half a year left . It’s time to make a decision . Meng Chuan placed his right hand on his saber’s hilt .
Nothing seemed to have changed .
Whoosh
A saber mark appeared on the cyan pillar . Meng Chuan’s drawing of the saber couldn’t be seen . Neither could its trajectory be seen, but the saber mark sliced through layers of runes on the pillar .
Meng Chuan’s pure speed had reached 60% of light speed . This speed was very terrifying for Tribulation Eminences . When he accelerated the time flow around him, the speed of his saber was unimaginable . Even a planet that was tens of thousands of kilometers in diameter could be completely destroyed with a single strike . However, he had condensed all his might into the seemingly ordinary saber mark
“Instantly penetrating seven layers of runes?” The white-robed elder looked at Meng Chuan in surprise .
Meng Chuan stared at the white-robed elder . “How is it?” Although it seemed easy, Meng Chuan had already used all his physical strength .
The white-robed elder looked at Meng Chuan in surprise . He smiled and said, “This strike of yours has reached the Fifth Physical Body Tribulation realm . ”
Fifth Physical Body Tribulation? Meng Chuan’s eyes lit up .
There was a difference between Essence Soul Tribulation Eminences and Physical Body Tribulation Eminences . Physical Body Tribulation Eminences were more skilled at close combat . They were also more skilled at direct attacks . Their bursts of strength were even greater than that of Essence Soul Tribulation Eminences .
“You can only be considered to have reached the Fifth Tribulation realm’s threshold,” reminded the white-robed elder . “One is considered to be at the Fifth Tribulation realm if they can penetrate seven to nine layers of runes . You can only be considered to reach the Fifth Tribulation realm’s threshold . ”

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Chromesight
After three centuries, post-industrial civilization threatens to shatter. Megacorporations accrue enormous power by linking together nations turned insular in the aftermath of yesterday's global multilateralism; a reinvigorated United Nations threatens the crumbling sovereignty of state by enforcing human rights independently of member nations, and the UN and others patrol for mass destruction technologies in the ever-accelerating, ever-democratizing arms race. Another environmental collapse looms, visions of the last haunting memories and consciences of the lower and middle classes around the globe. That is the reality that virtual child Colton is rehabilitated into. A system shock, a brave new world and above all a regurgitation. Rescued from being a tool in cyberspace and grown a new body, Colton couldn't care less about the new meatspace world. He wants to go back, back to the electronic glow that was his home. - - - - This is a MyNoWriMo entry. Lesser known than NaNoWriMo, MyNoWriMo takes place in January and is otherwise exactly the same. The goal is to finish this as quickly as possible and then possibly circle back and tidy things up. In the meantime there'll be no editing and helter-skelter story planning since I didn't do it beforehand :/
