The Last Embrace Chapter 77

Jessy was quietly observing the rainbow-colored blooming flowers inside the dome garden.
Yet, inside, her mind was submerged in troubled water. She was thinking hard on how to unravel the mystery of the invisible man. They already became so intimate with each other. He got that heavy magnetic pull around him that every time he transforms into Adam she can't resist his advances. It seemed her body has a mind of its own and can't resist his charm.
"Penny for your thoughts?" a male voice broke into her musings.
She looked up to see Zain's smiling face.
"Mind if I sit down beside you?" he asked.
She nodded. "Go ahead...I won't mind."
Prince Zain looked at Jessy with apprehension in his eyes.
"Is your shield activated?" he asked.
She turned to look at him frowning. "Why? Are you going to molest me again?"
"No! Of course not. I'm just puzzled why even if am sitting close to you at this moment I was not being repelled by your shield."
"You're not doing anything bad to me yet. As soon as you do, you're dead meat!" she glared at him.
Prince Zain laughed a little.
"You performed quite a show the other night. I was not able to sleep well because your seduction tortured and hunted my mind," he sighed.
Jessy grinned. "You like it? You want a repeat?" she teased him, tormenting him more in the process.
Prince Zain shook his head. "Nah, I will wait after our wedding so that I can own you legally."
She snorted. "Are you sure I will marry you?"
Prince Zain gave her a confident smile. "I'm 100% sure. Whether you like it or not you are going to marry me."
"Okay, as you say so," she humored him. She was not in the mood to argue with him. There's more important matter she needs to think about. The approaching wedding is another thing and the invisible man is still a big mystery to her.
They sat beside each other in comfortable silence.
Jessy stared at the flowers ahead.
"Why can't you learned to love Hannah?" she finally asked him.
"Why can't you learned to love me?" Zain replied her with his own question.
They stared at each other's face and they both smiled a little.
Then the silence is back, the gloom in their faces returns.
She scanned his face.
"Where you at the funeral when Adam died? You see him buried down in his grave?"
Prince Zain stared at Jessy. "Yes, why?"
"Who else besides you attended the burial?"

"Mother, my men, and Nanny Aida," he answered.
She processed his words carefully. She can't ask Zain's mother for more information. She might suspect a thing. That left her with Nanny Aida.
"Is there a chance a vampire will get resurrected after he died?"
Prince Zain shook his head vigorously. "No. Once died the vampire can no longer return to the living. I yet have to see a vampire resurrected after death. Why you suddenly ask all this?" his brows furrowed.
Jessy didn't reply, she continuous staring at the stunning beautiful orchids in magnificent purple color in front of her.
"Are you hoping and believing my brother can come back to life?" he asked.
Jessy ignored his mocking question.
"You better start forgetting my brother, it's useless hoping and dreaming he is alive. Start accepting me now since I will be the one you will end up in the altar."
She gave him a painful twisted smile but says nothing.
Prince Zain rose to his feet. "Feeding time for me, Jess. See you tomorrow, here...same time?"
His face was hopeful, eagerly waiting for a favorable response from her.
For some reason, she didn't want to disappoint him. "Okay," she said in a nonchalant manner.
For Zain, her agreement with his simple request meant a lot to him. His face broke into a triumphant smile.
"Thank you-Jess," he said, his face thankful. The smile of happiness lingers on his face. Then he turned around and strolled towards the dome's door.
She rolled her eyes. She watched his retreating back, deeply puzzled by his sudden display of happiness.
She stayed in the flower dome for half an hour more. Then she rose to her feet and exited the dome in a hurry.
She will visit Nana Aida in the mansion and interrogate her more on what really happened after Adam died and while she loses consciousness.
Jessy entered her room, grabbed her black garments costume and donned them to her body in a haste. She prepared herself for teleportation into the mansion.

When Jessy appeared in front of Nana Aida in the living room, the older woman almost has a heart attack.
"Nana Aida, I miss you so much!" she hugged her Nana.
Nana Aida returned her hug. "It's been a while since your last visit, how are you doing? How's your mother and father?" she asked.
"They are fine, busy with work."
Nana Aida turns off the remote control of the television.
"Have you eaten your dinner already? I will cook something for you," she offered.

"No need, Nana, I'm full."
"Are you going to stay here tonight?" she asked.
"No, some other time perhaps," she replied.
Jessy's face turned serious. "Nana, I'm here to ask you something, what happened after Adam died? I remembered that I passed out after drinking his blood."
Nana Aida's face went pale.
Jessy examined her Nanny's face thoroughly.
"Why are you asking all these, Jessy?"
"Because I have a feeling that Adam is alive," she said.
The older woman was stunned. Did Jessy already discover that Adam is alive?
"How did you know? I mean why you said that he was alive?" she asked again.
"I never said he was alive. I said I have a feeling he was alive," Jessy said.
"So please tell me, Nana. What happened after I passed out?"
Nana Aida was trying to sort out the conflict in her head. To reveal the truth to Jessy or not? If she will tell her the truth the Queen will be very angry at her for violating her promise. But a little bit of truth can't possibly harm her.
The older woman sighed. "When I check you both in your room, I found out that Adam already died and you passed out. So, I cut the tip of your fingers and fed your blood to Adam's already cold lifeless mouth."
Jessy's heart suddenly starts beating faster...she's eager to know the rest.
"...then what happened after?"
Nana Aida cleared her throat...
"Nothing happens, Adam was still dead. Until Prince Zain, his men and the Queen arrives bringing a black coffin with them. They placed Adam's dead body inside the coffin. The Queen cried a river in front of her son's dead body. Then afterward, the Prince's men brought the coffin into your rose garden. The grave was already dug and they lowered the casket, we scattered roses on it before the vampires finally covered it with soil. Then after a few minutes, all the vampire had gone back to the Facility. I slept late that night hoping and thinking Adam will come back to life since I already fed him your blood, but I waited in vain. That's all..."
Jessy observe Nana Aida's face carefully, she can see that she was telling the truth. She sighed. She was about to give up but her heart and mind refused to surrender to hopelessness.
She stood up. "Come with me, Nana."
"Where?" Nana Aida asked bewildered.
"Into Adam's grave. I want to see his dead body inside the coffin," she said.
"Huh? You mean to say you will dig his grave right now?" she went pale again.
"Yes. I just want to make sure that he is already dead so that my mind can rest in peace."
Jessy was heading towards the kitchen, the hard determination was etched on her face.
Nana Aida followed Jessy in grim silence. She sighed deeply. This is not gonna end well tonight!
When they were finally in front of the grave. Jessy uses her power to part the soil, the soil starts piling up in both sides. After a few minutes, the coffin's surface can now be seen from above.
Jessy inhaled air sharply out of anticipation. Then she waved her hand swiftly and the lid of the coffin was thrown to the other side showing an empty coffin...
The coffin was empty and there was no skeleton inside!
That means one thing...
Jessy closed her eyes...her heart was pounding fast, she had difficulty breathing. Then she crumbled to the ground, fat tears were now rolling down her face. She cried in anguish and happiness!
"Adam is alive, Nana!" she exclaimed excitedly, her voice was full of expectation and happiness.
"Maybe his family took his body back into the Facility and buried it there," Nana Aida suggested. She doesn't want to go all the way with her revelation to Jessy.
"Maybe, but I highly doubt that," she said wiping her tears away.
She rose to her feet and started dumping back the soil covering the coffin until the grave was brimmed full to the surface.
"I'm going upstairs, Nana." She wanted to see his room to find out some clues.
Inside his room, she found out that some of his clothes were missing. His laptop and his smartphone were gone along with his black garments and other important things.
Adam was definitely alive but he just vanished without a trace, without even seeing her? That would be impossible! He would never do such a thing unless there's a big reason why he has to stay away from her.
Where is he now?
Where can she find him?
Why he didn't even show himself to her after he was being resurrected?
He doesn't love her anymore?
Is he related to the invisible man?
Or was he the invisible man himself?
A lot of question was swimming in her head, she's experiencing a massive headache beginning to pound hard on her head, she lay down in his bed wanting to rest for a while.
She got to find him before the wedding takes place!

Fragments of Glass
before the 1939-1945 War, most churches in England had stained glass windows, but despite local people's best efforts many of these windows were smashed in the bombing. What could be repaired was repaired, but in many churches all they could do was reassemble the remaining fragments randomly, with extra bits of clear glass added to eke them out to fill the windows. That is what I imagined for my collection of short stories: fragments of stained glass, bits of robe, bits of faces, all sorts of odds and ends randomly stuck together. And with quite a lot of clear fragments among the coloured ones. Just broken pieces of stories that anyone can look through.
