The Last Embrace Chapter 406

A few seconds later.
They landed on the beach. The sea was at its calmest. Jessy finds the beach view heavenly. The peaceful surrounding was relaxing, soothing her turbulent mind. The cool breeze fanning her face feels like a gentle hand caressing her soul.
Adam hugged Jessy tightly. "Are you angry at my father?" he asked.
Jessy didn't reply. Right now she doesn't know if she is angry or just upset with the king. The majority of her negative feelings were centered mostly of the realization that she failed to protect Roden and in the end her drive for peace and rescuing the abducted human costs him his life making his children orphaned and his wife a widow. She wasn't sure anymore if all her efforts were put in vain or she just has to be contented with the reality that she can not save everyone.
Earlier, inside the cave, she was about to threaten the king that she will stop doing the blood transfusion and take her mother and father away from the Facility if he still insists on killing Roden, but in the end, she realized that she will only destroy the peace, quiet and stability of the Facility if she will continue provoking the king. Besides, he is Adam's father and they were not an even enemy to each other in the first place, what is there to fight for? She doesn't want to put Adam in a difficult situation choosing who's side he will defend if she and the king will fight.
In the end, she was able to save many except for one.
There's always a price for everything.
And she slowly conditioned herself that sometimes things won't always go her way.
Adam was worried about Jessy's prolonged silence. "Jess, are you okay?" he looked into her eyes.

Jessy smiled for the first time. "Yeah, I'm alright. I'm OKAY!" she faked laughter.
Adam sighed. "Hey, don't give me that fake laugh," he grumbled.
This time Jessy's laughter is genuine. "Look at you...why your face looks so serious?" she said.
"I'm just worried that you are getting upset and angry at my father and you might do something stupid out of spite," he said gloomily.
Jessy looked at the inviting ocean. "Wow! The sea is calm and inviting...let's go swimming!" she changed the subject.
Adam's face brightened up. "Yeah, why not?"
They discarded their clothing in the white sandy shore except for their underwear, they sprinted into the ocean and make a big splash, rushing competitively into the deepest part of the water, their merry laughter vibrated around them.
The sparkling water is cool and invigorating to the skin. It put a mega-watt smile on Jessy's lips.
"Wow, I love the water today!" she exclaimed.
"Me too!" Adam agreed. He was very much pleased that Jessy was already smiling. "About...what happen in the cave..." he was starting to touch the subject regarding the incident in the cave.
"No please, let's stop discussing the cave. For me, it's already over. Your father already passed on his verdict to Roden, there is nothing I can do about it. Hope he was happy with his decision," Jessy said with a hint of sadness and bitterness in her voice.
Adam sighed. "I'm sorry, Jess."
"It's alright, you don't have to apologize. Things happened already, let's leave it that way. Tomorrow is another day. Let's just return to normal as if nothing happens," she suggested.
"Will you be okay?" he asked again not convinced by her words, he can still see disappointment flashing in her eyes.

"Sorry if I sound like I'm faking it. But I am trying to sound optimistic. At least I save lots of vampire including humans today except for one," she said.
Adam knew that as much as she was pretending to be okay for his sake, inside she has not fully accepted yet with what happened inside the cave. He wants Jessy to keep talking and not bottle it up inside, much easier that way. The sooner she flushed everything out from her system she can easily recover from her disappointment.
They were frolicking in complete abandon in the ocean like children.
After sometimes they got tired and have enough of the ocean, it's now time to go home and rest.
Adam asked, "Where do you want to sleep, Jess?"
"Anywhere, just not in the Facility," she answered.
Adam's forehead creased. "Huh? You no longer want to go back to the Facility?" he asked worriedly.
"Not that...I just want to stay by your side somewhere tonight," she replied quickly. "Don't worry I will go back to the Facility tomorrow and resume blood transfusion and just to be clear, I don't hate the king, and he still got my respect despite his decision of sacrificing Roden just to appease his old grudge," she added just to subdue the worry appearing in Adam's face.
"That's good to know that you are willing to let go of everything, Jess. I'm really worried that you are going to hate my father because of his decision of ending Roden's life tonight," Adam said.
"Silly you, although I'm a bit emotional and overly dramatic sometimes I still know where my loyalty lies," she explained. "Alright, enough of the drama, let's go to your condo now!" she said excitedly.
They get out of the water, walked in the seashore and picked up their discarded clothes and wore them over their soaking wet body. They hold hands and Adam initiated the teleportation process back into his condo in the city.
A minute later, they finally landed inside Adam's room.
"You go ahead, Jess, you can take your shower first. I will prepare your clothes," he said.
Jessy entered the bathroom and took a shower for fifteen minutes.
Then it's Adam's turn to shower.
A few minutes later they were finally resting in bed.
"Goodnight!" she said.
"Sweet dreams!" Adam responded and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. He embraced her lovingly from behind.
The couple closed their eyes preparing to sleep.
One hour later. Jessy was already in a deep sleep while Adam was still thinking of what had happened in the cave. Although his father already made his verdict not to harm anyone in the cave except Roden, he still can't help but worry that his father changed his mind and did the opposite annihilating everyone, this will trigger Jessy's anger and he was terrified of what her reaction will be.
He gets out of the room to drink water in the kitchen. Halfway, a form suddenly materializes in the living room. "Mother!" he said.
"Where is Jessy?" Queen Margaret asked.
"She's inside my room sleeping," Adam replied. "Why?"
"I'm just worried about her. I'm worried that she will no longer continue the blood transfusion," the queen said.
"She's okay. She's not angry at Father. Just a bit upset, but overall she's accepting everything. She already reconciled with herself that Roden can not be saved and there's nothing she can do about it," he explained.

Who Fixes Books Anyway?
On the pretense of a raise, the relatively new employee Pernie is called in to talk with her superiors. NOTE: This is a short story written for a class I took recently. As a result of deadlines, it does not possess the quality (or length) that I would like and is rather thrunkated. Perhaps sometime far in the furture I'll fix it up. For now, I have much more important things to work on, such as my other fiction.
