The Last Embrace Chapter 436

"Is that what you wanted from me? Okay, go on...please tell me more..." she said, getting interested.
"As you can see, internally, our society was gripped with many problems arising from drug-related crimes destroying the people's mental and health problems, human smuggling and trafficking, poverty and a lot more. Instead of channeling a huge budget into health care and alleviating poverty, the government is investing more in war equipment to strengthen the nation's security. See...? The country should invest more in the peoples well being not in war equipment. The truth is if we can't locate the source of the problem. The problem keeps coming, it's a never-ending cycle. Only by cutting the problems down to its root, they can be prevented," said the Colonel in a frustrated manner.
"So what is your plan, Sir?" she asked.
"Accompany us on our mission. First, I especially wanted to solve the drug problem in our society and there are a lot more problems waiting to be solved but we don't have much talent like yours," he said. "I want to know who is the drug suppliers and how they bring the drugs in the country and where did they manufacture the drugs," he said. "My beloved nephew died because of a drug overdose, it's painful and a big blow to our family. I don't want anybody to suffer the same fate ever again," he said sadly.
"Second, human smuggling and trafficking is another headache in our society. I want to know who is involved in this sick trade. Who are the devils who kidnap and sold people against their will, this evilness must stop!"
"Third, sending our troops abroad to support and help other countries and ended up dying in a foreign land for the cause that isn't ours, to begin with. I hate war on both sides because it makes the people of each country suffer real hard. The ironic thing is that leaders are willing to go to war and yet it's the people, the soldiers who are dying and suffering due to the stupidity of some of the world leaders. I've been thinking about you and what you are capable of, that if you are guided properly you can help solve many problems that our country is facing. It would be a waste of time if you will sit idle inside the Facility and can not contribute to the society which you are part of, after all, you are half-human," he concluded his speech.

Jessy was silent for a moment. Solving several problems within the country will be easy for her. Because of her power, she can do so much. But sending her abroad proved to be difficult because she has daily blood transfusion to worry about unless all the vampires are done transforming into humans, then that will be the time she will be willing to go abroad and help the soldiers fighting enemies there.
"Sir, I don't have a problem with the mission abroad, but I can't go there yet because I must transform all my clan into humans. As for the mission inside the country, I'm willing to render my services to the government in return for my people's peace and safety. All I ask is that let me finish transforming all the vampires into humans first and after that, I'm willing to be sent abroad for whatever mission that is required of me," she said.
Colonel Brown surveyed the Crossbreed's face. "Aside from you, is there any powerful vampire with the same power as you? It would be much better if the vampire clan can provide us at least two representatives so that we can speed up the mission and produce impressive results. In turn, when we are about to present to the government the excellent result of every mission, the government won't hesitate to grant clemency to the vampires and employ your skill. It will be a win-win situation for both parties," he said.
Jessy fell silent for a moment. She can't reveal to them about Adam and other vampires with superpowers like her because she knows that being a representative of the vampire clan the government will have full control of that person. As a representative, they will be at the beck and call of the government. It will be a whole life servitude with no end. But if it's the only way to achieve peace and safety for the entire surviving vampire clan, someone has to do it. She knows that if Adam will know about this... he will also be willing to take the opportunity and responsibility.

"Let me discuss this matter to my clan first, Sir. We will choose the best representative for our clan. I will come back here if we already decided on the other one," she said.
"Okay, that's good," the colonel smiled.
Jessy was observing the military officers' faces. She needed to know if they're indeed serious with their willingness to help the vampire clan attain peace and security. And there is only one way to find out...
She waved her hand at both of them freezing them instantly.
She went to Colonel Brown's side and placed her hands over his head. She needs to see his memory and find out how sincere he is with his intention to bring peace to the table between the surviving vampires and the government.
Jessy began scanning his memories from the early days up to the present times.
It took her one hour to see everything in his mind. Colonel Brown is indeed telling her the truth, he has good intentions.
Done with the colonel, she went to the captain's side and did the same.
It took her another hour to finish scanning his memory as well. And just like the colonel, she can't find anything wrong with the captain. He has a good heart just like the colonel.
Now, she was finally convinced that she can trust them.
She waved her hand at them, unfreezing them.
The military officers were looking at each other.
"D-did you do something to us?" the colonel asked.
Jessy grinned and confessed. "I freeze you two for two hours, and scan the memories in your heads so that I can see for myself the degree of your sincerity to help my clan," she explained.
Colonel Brown and Capt. Mercado looked at each other.
"And what did you see?" Capt. Mercado asked curiously.
"You guys are sincere because if you are planning to deceive me and I see that evil intention in your heads, you are already dead by now," she gives them a death glare.
The colonel laughed and clapped his hands. "That's awesome! You can read minds as well? Fantastic! We can use that skill of yours for the greater good," he said excitedly.
"Alright Gentlemen, I need to go home now, I will be back within this week. Prepare the first mission, I want all the details and what I'm getting into," Jessy said and disappeared from their sight.

What Was Lost Outside Time
What happens to a mind, subjected to an infinite span of time? What remains, when it is taken out again? This is the story of an individual reborn after such time has passed that nothing remains of what it was; an individual who must learn once again what it is to be, beginning with awareness of the idea of awareness, and growing from there; from awareness of self, to awareness of others, to awareness of society, and on. This is the story of a mind; growing, learning, adapting, and becoming more. -- Currently the first three chapters are - well, kind of experimental. I both like and hate these; they were a pain to write, and I'm told by at least one person that they're painful to get through, but I think something like them is necessary to set one of the basic ideas about the way the story is written. It gets slightly more normal after that, the first arc of the story is rather "battle school", and I think I may need to go back and edit it - the characterization didn't end up working out as well as I had originally hoped, unfortunately, and ended up rather weak to my eye. I may go back and add a sub-plot or two, depending on how well I can handle the intended perspective shift of the second arc. -- Currently on hiatus, in case that wasn't obvious. I'm debating between rewriting large portions of what I've already written, and just finishing out the story, but either way, I don't actually have a clear idea of what I want to do right now. If I'm still feeling the same way in a few months I'll put a chapter up explaining where the story was going, maybe, so the people who have enjoyed it can know where the story was intended to go, and close this out.
