The driver nodded and started the engine, then the car zoomed away.

He Xiyan had already stopped crying but she sat on the cold hard floor and stared blankly at the wall ahead with her swollen eyes, as though her soul had left her. She didn’t express any emotion, nor make any effort to move. She sat there motionless and stared blankly ahead like she was in a vegetative state.
