Chapter 1209: We Are Doing Well
She thought that after her reply, He Xiyan would get the message, so she was surprised that He Xiyan had made a trip to the village.
What was she trying to do? She had never visited in over five years, so why had she suddenly shown up here?
He Xiyan shook her head.
She had come here on an impulse. She wanted to know how Jiahang was faring, so she could put her mind at ease.
“Why don’t you come out for a moment? Let’s have a chat,” Ziya said as she pointed in the direction of where her car was parked.
He Xiyan followed her to the area where she had pointed.
They both stood under a tree.
Lin Ziya couldn’t hide how nervous and uneasy she was. She took a deep breath before she said, “He Xiyan, aren’t you doing well in Ye City? Why did you return?”
Lin Ziya’s fingers twisted nervously together and she stared straight at He Xiyan as she waited for an answer.
He Xiyan smiled awkwardly as she said, “I wanted to see how the village was doing and wanted to use this opportunity to see if Jiahang was doing well.”
Lin Ziya said, “We’re doing just fine.”
Lin Ziya deliberately used the word ‘we’ because Chen Jiahang was now her husband, as well as the father of her child.
He Xiyan acknowledged her response. She could tell that they were doing well and it wasn’t only Jiahang who was faring well, but the entire village seemed to have improved their living conditions drastically.
“I’ve married Jiahang,” Lin Ziya said with a warning note in her voice. “We’ve been married for more than two years and we have a one-and-a-half-year-old son. Our second child will be born in May,” she said as she looked at her rounded belly.

There was a baby growing inside her, her second child with Jiahang.
He Xiyan followed Lin Ziya’s gaze and looked at her rounded belly. She guessed that Lin Ziya was probably about four to five months along. She had given birth to two children herself so she could tell that Lin Ziya was pregnant.
“Congratulations,” she said with a small smile and congratulated Lin Ziya sincerely.
“Thanks,” Lin Ziya said.
She relaxed slightly but she didn’t completely let down her guard.
Many years might have passed but she knew how important He Xiyan was to Jiahang and she also knew that if He Xiyan hadn’t stepped aside, she wouldn’t have a chance to return to Jiahang’s side.
“Jiahang isn’t home today. He has gone to the headquarters in Ming City,” she said.
Lin Ziya already guessed that He Xiyan would definitely want to meet Jiahang during her trip here, but she really hoped that they wouldn’t meet because this would disrupt their lives.
He Xiyan acknowledged her words once more.
“I’m not here to meet him,” she said softly.
She didn’t have any intention of meeting Jiahang. She just wanted to know how he was doing.
She wouldn’t intrude on his life now that he had begun a new life.
The worry in Lin Ziya’s eyes faded somewhat.
She felt thankful that He Xiyan wasn’t the sort of woman who would disrupt someone else’s life.
“He Xiyan, I’d still like to thank you regardless of what happened. I’d also like to thank you on Jiahang’s behalf,” Lin Ziya said as she approached He Xiyan and gave her a pat on the shoulder.
While she had to admit that she had once been jealous of He Xiyan, she was still thankful for He Xiyan because Jiahang wouldn’t have recovered his memories otherwise and she wouldn’t have had another chance to get together with him.
He Xiyan wasn’t a selfish woman either. She didn’t cling onto Jiahang and gave her a chance to pursue her happiness with him.

Eight Years Ago"Mom.." I say with a small smile on my face.My sister had passed her first music lesson and we're all so proud of her."What is it Layla!? can't you see I'm busy?!" She snaps."Oh.." I say, my smile faltering slightly, as I watch mom cuddle Heidi and give her lots of sweets as reward."C-can I have a sweetie too?" I ask.Mom laughs coldly. "Why should you? You've never achieved anything, have you?! Lazy little brat." Heidi giggles and I look at her to see a smirk on her face, making my face fall. I watch mom whisper things to Heidi, making her giggle even more. The door swings open, and my dad walks in.I smile again, running to him and hug his knees but he just brushes me off with an annoyed expression, walking towards my mom hugging her and ruffling Heidi's hair. What's going on?"Dad..ruffle my hair too?" I ask hesitantly. All three of them burst out laughing and I sink down in embarassment."Layla, we always knew you weren't the brightest kid here." He laughs "I just knew you'd be a screw up, right Luise?" He says and she nods."And I was right. You're a failure" He grabs my maths sheet, crumples it up and throws it at me. "You spend way too much time with your 'friends' never on your education, you ungrateful little brat. We should've got rid of you as soon as we found out you were on the way." He spits out spitefully as my mum nods, still smirking."Dad I'll do better, I promise!"I sob, tears streaming down my face, but he shakes his head, smirking. I look at my sister and walk towards her giving her a watery smile."H-Heidi... we're still friends right?" I ask, desperately. Her smirk slowly vanishes. she leans forward and I thought she'd hug me, but instead she pulls my hair and pushes me onto the floor making me scream. She laughs, my parents joining her."Stupid" she hisses, kicking me, before going to my parents, all of them walking out, leaving me on the floor, crying my eyes out. What have I done to deserve this?
