Chapter 223: The Mystery Behind Her Identity

Dugu Heng was somewhat shocked by this news.

The Dugu Family matriarch’s eyes bulged. She stared at the captain anxiously. “What are the police doing then? Why are you not arresting those men?!”

The captain gave a bitter laugh. “Madam, it’s not that we don’t want to arrest them, but the opponent is Apollo. It is impossible for us to capture him.”

“Apollo? Who’s that? Is there anyone Bai Yi can’t catch?!” The Dugu Family matriarch thought the captain was just humoring her.

“Anyone else is possible, but not the great Apollo. Just ask Master Dugu.” The captain sighed as he turned toward Dugu Heng.

Dugu Heng’s eyes darkened. “If it’s Apollo, even I would be helpless against him, not to mention Bai Yi.”

Apollo.

Everyone knew about that guy.

He always possessed the latest and most advanced weaponry.

He was the unabashed King of Firearms.

He was at the top of Bai Yi’s most wanted list. But even after so many years, he had never been captured even once.

He did not belong to the International Association and so the Association had no power to go against him.

Apollo, Dugu Yusheng, Gideon… Dugu Heng could clearly feel the gravity of the situation. He gazed down at the dazed Su Ruohua, knowing that she must be feeling very lost.

The Dugu Family matriarch was nearly breaking down. “How is that possible? How can there be anyone whom you cannot capture?”

“Don’t waste your energy.” Dugu Yusheng lifted his head, his expression placid as always. “Apollo only listens to one person. You better pray that Ms. Su recovers, otherwise…”

He slowly shifted his eyes over to the Dugu Family matriarch.

Those profound eyes of his were even deeper than the ocean.

The Dugu Family matriarch felt a chill run down her spine.

“According to what you said earlier, only Ms. Dugu and Ms. Su were in the potion room then. If anything happens to Ms. Su, there are plenty of people who will demand the lives of the Dugu Family.” Dugu Yusheng continued to stare at the Dugu Family matriarch. “By then, I am afraid you would have to go plead for mercy from Ms. Su.”

The doors to the emergency room suddenly opened. “Mr. Dugu, Master Gideon has requested for you to go in.”

Dugu Yusheng turned and walked into the emergency room.

Behind him, the Dugu Family matriarch just felt like her heart was engulfed in a chilly air.

Inside the emergency room.

Gideon immediately noticed the bedridden Su Huiqing.

His reaction was the same as Apollo’s. He stood there in a trance for a long time.

They had never met Su Huiqing in person, but had only contacted her online. It had been this way for nine whole years.

Gideon connected to Apollo via a video-call. With a cool expression, he pointed at Su Huiqing. “Apollo, don’t tell me that this is King?”

“That’s right. That’s why I want you to remain calm.” Apollo was still on the fighter jet, and it was very noisy. He pressed down on his golden hair.

“This is not something that can be resolved just by staying calm.” Gideon had always been a placid person and nothing could shake him. But now, he was truly shaken. “She is probably about 20 years old now? So nine years ago, she must have been only 10? She alone managed to dominate Unknown Island at the mere age of 10?!”

He thought of how they always called this person King, and of how they always sought her advice whenever something went wrong.

“That is why I want you to remain calm.” Apollo had already experienced that initial shock, so he knew why Gideon was having such a major reaction. “Just take a look at her condition first.”

Gideon turned off the screen.

He stood there for a moment before taking off his jacket and putting on the scrubs brought over by the nurse.

A white sash dangled from his right hand.

Gideon was taken aback.

He stared at the white sash for a long time before chuckling, startling the nurse standing beside him.

Gideon slowly undid the white sash before redressing in the scrubs. He then walked over to Su Huiqing’s side.

He was now certain that there was no need for that sash.

Dugu Yusheng entered.

He saw Gideon standing in front of some medical equipment.

Lowering his eyes, his face looked more grave than ever before.

“What’s the matter?” Dugu Yusheng instinctively paused as his heart sank.

“Come take a look at this.” Gideon pressed the enter key on the computer and then pointed at the enlarged image of a cell on the screen. He turned to look at Dugu Yusheng.

Dugu Yusheng walked to his side and looked at the computer screen.

He was not medically trained and had no idea what he was looking at.

Gideon didn’t wait for him to ask but just explained straightaway. “It’s very strange. I thought she was brain dead but the cells on the outer layer of her brain are very active. In fact, they are thrice as active as a normal person’s.”

“What does this mean?” Dugu Yusheng asked.

Gideon shoved his hands into his pocket as he lowered his eyes.

He had called Dugu Yusheng in as he had seen such a case once before.

He had also previously diagnosed the person as brain dead, but the patient’s brain cell activity was very high. After some treatment, the patient eventually woke up.

A dead person coming back to life. It was a case which shook the entire International Association.

That person was someone from the Dugu Family.

It was also from then on that the Dugu Family’s miraculous bloodline gained fame.

“I suspect that King is part of the Dugu Family.” Gideon was more or less certain.

“What did you say?” Dugu Yusheng looked up suddenly.

His face was full of shock.

Gideon’s news had been like a bomb.

Gideon remained very calm. He looked at Dugu Yusheng and repeated in a placid voice. “It is exactly as I said. Moreover, she is a direct descendant.”

“Go then.” Gideon turned his attention back toward Su Huiqing. “I will continue my check-up on her.”

“I still have no idea what is wrong with her.” Gideon once again probed into Su Huiqing’s brain with his equipment. “I am not even sure if she will ever wake up.”

Dugu Yusheng clenched his fists before taking a deep breath and walking out the door.

The Dugu Family matriarch was no longer there when he emerged. She must have gone over to Dugu Wu’s ward.

Dugu Yusheng’s eyes dimmed. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and pressed for the lift.

“How is Qingqing?” Dugu Heng caught up with him.

“I don’t know.” Dugu Yusheng was feeling very vexed and lit another cigarette.

The nurse saw that he was smoking but didn’t dare to stop him.

Dugu Heng’s face turned extremely grim.

“What did he say?” Su Ruohua looked at Dugu Heng.

“Nothing. Gideon is still inside. You must place your trust in him.” Dugu Heng calmly assured her. He then turned toward his butler. “Let’s go find the Old Madam.”

They must settle this score properly.

Dugu Yusheng was also going to look for Dugu Wu. There was no news from Chi Yue yet, and he didn’t believe this matter had nothing to do with Dugu Wu. Even the Dugu Family matriarch might know something.

Dugu Yusheng felt a raging fire ignite in his heart, as a mocking sneer appeared on his lips.

He pushed open the door to the ward and looked at the Dugu Family matriarch. He said in his usual tranquil voice, “Old Madam, showing so much concern over a granddaughter who does not bear your bloodline, while trying to kill the real Ms. Dugu. That isn’t very good of you, is it?”
