《The Genius’ First Love》The Genius' First Love

Dannah was at her rooftop drinking some coffee. It was a cold night and she had a blanket wrapped on her shoulders as she was enjoying the cup of hot drink. She was then watching the beautiful moon and the stars that scattered in the sky, blinking endlessly as if they were trying to entertain her. Dannah had a lot this week especially that many things about the past bothered her. While she was having some intimate "me time", Dannah saw Scar walking through the alley on his way home. He was wrapped totally, twice of clothing and a scarf around his neck. Not to mention his head cap that covered almost all of his face. Seeing him from up above, Dannah smiled specially that the man was holding a bouquet of lavenders in his right hand. It was just a small bouquet, not attractively wrapped, probably something Scar picked up personally from a flower farm.

Lavender was Dannah's favourite and this wasn't the first time Scar attempted to bring her the flower, it was one of the many attempts he did, just that—for whatever reason—the flowers never reached Dannah. All these times Dannah thought that Scar, knowing that giving Dannah flowers would raise some concerns on their already complicated relationship would always choose to throw the flowers away even before they get to see each other face to face. She remembered previously, back when they were younger and Scar was still an errand boy at the marble mansion, he always brings lavender whenever Dannah saw him entering the gate but when she ran to welcome the boy, the flower just evaporate somewhere even before Dannah could lay eyes on them close. Although sometimes this circumstance and the hesitation of Scar to pursue Dannah frustrates the girl, she had somehow been used to it and she knew that, no matter what, either romantically or platonically, Scar will forever be a part of her and no flowers, ever beautiful like lavenders could change the fact.

Soon enough, Scar, after seeing signs of Dannah being home, found the latter at the rooftop with her coffee and he immediately joined her, the lavenders were gone of course—as usual.

"Where have you been today?" Dannah asked after Scar settled comfortably beside her, drinking on his own cup of coffee.

"Somewhere. I did some errands," He answered casually as the deliciously bitter taste of pure black coffee hit his throat.

"Errands for whom?" She asked curiously although she knew, Scar would most likely evade the topic. Since Scar was no longer on Franco's syndicate, he worked freelance now and do things for big clients that he'd rather not tell Dannah.

"For a client. Someone you don't know and probably is not interested in," He closed the topic immediately with confidence that Dannah would understand his avoidance as she knew how jobs like they do needed outmost privacy.

"I see," Dannah answered, aware that Scar don't want to talk about it. So instead of asking further questions, she just turned her gaze back to the beauty of capital at night, specially how the big black canvass was adorned by volumes of bright evening lights that made it so mesmerizing.

"You like this place very much," Seeing that Dannah dropped the topic completely, Scar joined the girl in adoring the beauty of the scenery. "But I have to admit it is refreshing in this side, makes you want to relax and just enjoy your coffee,"

"You are not a coffee lover," Dannah raised a brow while she made the comment.

"I am not, but you are such a good influencer you dragged me into coffee addiction," The man replied raising her cup as if trying to make a toast and made another sip on his own cup. "But seriously though, this place—it fits you very well"

"My mother will disagree with that." Dian replied.

"Does she still want you to stay home and be the princess that you are supposed to be?" Scar inquired. Being a Lagdameo was not easy, especially for a girl. Others always had the perception that Dannah's life was perfect, a life like that of a princess and that's how Scar met her. She used to be his little miss, way back when they were young and Scar was still a helpless little boy who earned a living by doing errands for the rich. They easily got a long and when Scar decided to joined Franco's syndicate, Dannah followed his path even though she had to let go of many things including the princess life she lived.

"She wants me to act like a decent lady and of course, father wanted to marry me off to someone useful," Dannah answered. "I did think that after all these years and all what happened in L Empire, they would see me as something else rather than just a damaged asset. Unfortunately I was wrong,"

"But your father must have realized right now that you are better off unmarried. You do well in business and if not for you, Darryl—the L Empire's ultimate hope should have not came back to save the day. In my opinion, they owe you a lot now that they had lost every right to demand anything from you anymore," Scar tried to cheer her up. The man was very aware of Dannah's struggles in her family and so he knew just the right words to say.

"Unfortunately only you realize that," Dannah replied. "However, your recognition is far more important to me than anybody else,"

"Well I'm glad,"

Scar smiled at it. Then he raised his cup again for a toast, this time he waited for Dannah to join the toast with him, and when she did, they both laughed it off. The rooftop was filled with laughter and the night ended beautifully for Dannah and Scar. They watched the sky together, talked about the stars, how fantastic the city lights were as well as some stories Scar brought from his year long trip abroad.
