Age Of Islands: I Can See Through All Things Chapter 36

When Jack first met them, because they had been living well for three months, most of the people had become fatter than before.
Some even had fat heads, big ears, and stomachs that were no smaller than women who were three or four months pregnant.
But now…
Right now, all of them were incomparably robust, their eyes shining brightly.
Obviously, the results of their training had completely changed them.
At this moment, they were waiting excitedly for the president's words.
Seeing this scene, Jack nodded slightly and said, "My warriors, I saw your hard work. You are very outstanding. I am extremely proud of your current achievements!"
As soon as Jack finished speaking, everyone was stunned.
They were incomparably excited, some even shed tears.
This was not an exaggeration.
Everyone was working hard for this moment.
They wanted to be of use to Jack.
Now that the president had seen their efforts and was proud of them, they knew that their hard work had not been in vain!
"For the President!"
"For the President!"
"For the President!"
Their collective voice sounded like it could topple mountains and overturn seas.
As they shouted in succession, even the distant mountain peaks could not help but be moved, crying out.
Feeling their passion, Jack pressed his hands together and everyone instantly fell silent, listening carefully to Jack speak.
"Everyone, some of you might have heard of the battle at the front line, and some might not! But no matter how much you know, I don't want to hide it now because I feel that you have the right to know!"
Everyone looked at Jack, expecting him to say something.
"The mermen are a type of undersea evil beast. They have already begun the first wave of attack. They came too suddenly. Five of the eight Silver Swordsmen stationed near the first wave were sacrificed to resist the mermen!"

At Jack's words, none of the warriors in the room looked scared.
Instead, all of them were incomparably excited, wishing they could rush into the battlefield right now!
Jack was very satisfied with their reaction, so he continued, "But the first wave of attacks was blocked by those heroes. I can proudly tell you that none of them retreated and used their flesh and blood to block the crazy attacks of the mermen!"
"Because of their resistance, we were given enough time to react. If it weren't for them, the coast would have been lost. The people near the coast might be your father, your friends, or your wife, but they would already be dead now!
Hearing Jack's words, everyone was touched!
They did not know what had happened.
However, through Jack's description, they clearly understood the horror of the war!
Moreover, they realized that if it was not for their desperate resistance, their loved ones would have probably suffered misfortune!
At this moment, everyone's eyes could not help but turn red.
Jack nodded and said again, "Now, please tell us if these people are heroes!"
"Tell me, are these people, who used their own flesh and blood to block the endless tide of mermen, heroes?"
As soon as Jack finished speaking, everyone could not help but shout.
"Heroes!"
"Heroes!"
"Heroes!"
...
"Although they are dead, they died in the great confrontation. They are no longer here, but their will remains. We must uphold their will, defeat the evil mermen, and protect New World!" Jack shouted!
Everyone could not help but cry out in excitement!
Jack did not stop them. The mobilization at this time was good enough for their subsequent performance!
After they finished venting, Jack scanned the crowd again and slowly said, "Now, I announce that the first official soldier assessment competition begins now!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the entire place was in an uproar. Everyone was anticipating this moment!
It was finally time to test their hard work!
Soon, the instructors came out to maintain order, while Jack sat above the platform.
The assessment officially began. Under the instructors' orders, everyone was filled with passion as they did their best.
As there were many people, the assessment only ended in the afternoon.
Finally, the results were announced. Out of 150 people, 112 successfully became official soldiers.
The rest of them became reserve troops and were sent back to their original locations, waiting for the next opportunity to enlist.
The faces of those who failed were full of worry, those who succeeded were full of joy, and everyone was telling each other about their happiness and dejectedness.
Jack and the others did not interrupt or leave.
This was because the next assessment would be held here.
As for what the assessment was?
A uniform sound came from afar.
There were not many people, but their voices were extremely loud, overshadowing the noise of more than 150 people.
No one knew what was going on. They tilted their heads and looked over.
"They're here!" Eugene said to the president.
Jack nodded.
The commotion they made was not small!
Their voices arrived before them.
In the forest in the distance, their steps were orderly as they stepped on endless dust.
Everyone was guessing what it was.
"Could it be the mermen? This commotion is terrifying!"
"That's impossible. How can the mermen be here? The President and Captain Eugene are still here!"
"Then what is it? Why is it so neat? It feels like this is the work of one person, but whose voice can be so loud?"
"That's right, and what's with the footsteps? Why do I feel the ground shaking?"
"Could it be an earthquake?"
"Could it be the President's secret army?"
...
Soon, footsteps could be heard coming out of the forest.
Instead of a group, they were like one entity!
This group ran over in an orderly and uniformed manner.
The entire team was like a cube. There was someone at the side leading the crowd and shouting slogans.
"One! Two! One! Two!"
They advanced slowly, and everyone finally saw who they were.
Everyone was shocked by the people in front of them.
These people were wearing dark green clothes, a big hat, and black shoes.
"Who are they?"
"Why are they wearing the same clothes?"
"What a terrifying formation!"
"Is this the President's secret army?"
"This is too terrifying, I feel like I can't stop them at all!"
"That's right. The entire army seems to be one entity."
...
Indeed, these were the ceremonial guards that Cyril had trained.
When they arrived at the site, the people in front hastily made way for them.
After arriving below the examination stage, Cyril yelled, "Attention!"

There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
