The Ancient Genes Chapter 310

The arena was in shambles. Smoke and destruction marks from the battle were still pretty visible.
"This isn't the place for the Knight of House to interfere…" Argus said as he looked at Bayu.
"How can you say that after so many of our students were injured. One is even fighting for his life as we speak…." Bayu said as he slightly turned his hand towards Max giving a threatening glare.
It didn't seem that they were going to reach a solution at this rate any time soon.
Max looked at the guy giving him a dangerous feeling. There was definitely something up with this guy.
'Tempest….I don't think it's anything to do with the bloodline. Otherwise, I would have felt if from Tyler as well….' Max inwardly thought as he continued to observe the guy.
"This is the matter of members of the Disciplinary Committee…..its the others who have interfered in it. I refrain you from making any rash decisions, Head Bayu, you wouldn't be trying to interfere with committees work..now would you?" Argus further spoke as he looked at him.
Bayu looked at him and his eyes remained calm, "It's probably best if I take it in from here, you should know what would happen later…."
"Only people who have done wrong fear the consequences, I assume you failed to determine the right and wrong here…." Argus replied as he looked at him.
Max looked at him with blank eyes. Argus had a strong ideology but he was wrong. The weak feared the strong, it didn't matter whether they were wrong or right.
Max too didn't want to get himself done just because of this... he was already thinking what could possibly happen to him in this scenario.
"Whoosh!"
At this moment, several figures appeared in the arena. They were the Academy guards. Most of them were affiliated with the Association but served under the Academy.
To be precise, the borders and the institutions like these fell under the jurisdictions of the Association while the Union handles the matters in the city.

"You all are coming with us," the captain of the squad said as he looked at the people in the arena.
"Where are you taking them? This is the internal matters of the Academy…." Argus said with a frown.
"I am sorry, Sir, but the damage has already crossed the prescribed limit. The authority over this case no longer lies with the Academy but the Association…" the man said as he recognised Argus as the grandson of the Headmaster.
Max knew that this was going in a different direction now. He slightly turned his head trying to find his spear. He had just got it, losing it would be a big blow to him. Luckily for Max, the spear was lying under the rubbles. It seems that it was thrown aside after removing it from Victor's chest.
Max quietly used his spirit energy and retrieved the spear back into his spirit world. It was good to have it with him, he never knew when the time for action would come.
Argus who has heard the person frowned and turned to look towards the cabin, 'What are you planning?'
The old man sitting inside smiled as he looked at the scene. It was true that on the surface, he didn't have much control. But, were the Ancient Families weak?
….
Mage Association, Capital Orca.
"What do you mean? What were the instructors doing?!!'' the mage king shouted as he heard the matter from his assistant and slammed his desk in anger.
"Bang!"
The desk had been made with special ore to endure the mage king's hand after a dozen or so sacrifices.
"Sir, I have received the footage….." the assistant said as he played the footage.
The mage king's face continued to darken as he looked at the live broadcast which had been done earlier.
"Just how could they let this happen?" The mage king mumbled in anger again. He had carefully planned it over a long term to broadcast the competition and shift people's attention to this from the other negativity….

But, what now, he hoped that it wouldn't affect his plan much….
He wanted to show a passionate and good-spirited fight and not something brutal….
"Get the Video down and prepare a report on people's reaction..."
"Yes, Sir. I am onto it…." the assistant said.
"Who were the two fighting? And what about the other students who joined?' The mage king suddenly asked.
"The two fighting were Max Arkansas, a student from Arcane, there isn't anything unique about him. It's just he has a talent for smithing….and has a fighting ability of second class among youth..."
The assistant was suddenly interrupted by the Mage King, "What is wrong with your eyes, there is nothing unique about him? A blacksmith fighting like that….and you say it's nothing special?"
The Assistant's eyes widened as he suddenly realised the fact…..even though they only considered first class as the true strength, something like this was not everyday occurrence. People like this would grow to become strong pillars in the future and here the student wasn't even a mage.
Obviously it was assuming that the growth like this would continue and it was not the full potential of the person.
'Max? Where did I hear it?' The Mage king through inwardly finding the name to be familiar.
"Continue…" the Mage King said as he looked at the files of the approaching Arcane raid. It had almost been a year and they still couldn't get the city back. The density of the beast had increased quite a bit and started to pose a challenge for them now..
"The other person involved in the fight was Victor Edwinson…a second class and a known genius with quite a bit history in the house.....he suffered a serious injury and is in critical conditions as of now….as for the rest.." The assistant said and then continued to say the names of other people involved.
The Mage King finally put the documents down and sighed. Why did all the younger generation have to be involved in this? Well, what was he supposed to say, even his own son's name came up on it...
"Just who is this kid? Is he getting support from one of the Houses? How can he not know how things work? Even though courage is one thing, this is recklessness…. Edwinson House won't let it go….besides we can't make a neutral house upset at this stage…." the Mage King frowned as he thought about it. Things weren't looking good for them, he had even recently received a report that the Oven's House had made secret contacts with all the other Houses on Association's side. He didn't know what was going on, he just couldn't afford to let his guard down at this moment...
"Sir, it doesn't seem he has the backing of any of the houses…." the assistant replied.
"Just leave that then, what was the reason for the battle…." the Mage King asked.
"It's seemed to be a practice match on the surface, but rumors say otherwise…."
"Oh? And what is that?" The Mage King asked as he continued to look at the document.
"Umn…" the assistant hesitated as he looked at the source once again….he wouldn't die after saying it right?
"What's wrong?" The Mage King raised his head and asked. "What is it?"
"The rumors say that he s-s..s..spanked Mage King's Daughter and the Young Lady from Edwinson House…."
"Bang!"
The desk made of special ore was instantly broken apart by Mage King's hand scaring the Assistant to death.
The Mage King had a terrified look on his face as he smiled, "Good, let's sentence him to death…"

The Shape of Home
The world of Alvelotyl is one of fantasy, one filled with many races, an expansive magic system exploring themes of identity, some LitRPG elements, moral ambiguity and no small amount of magical inventions similar to those in our world. Dragons with blogs showing off their hoards of treasure live alongside [Hunters] chasing Giant Toads, or [Bandits] using rifles charged with Fire Magic. The Shape of Home is a story within this world, and follows the exploits of Yuri Scalesmith, a budding Lizardfolk adventurer from a small country town with a knack for inventing, and how her life drastically changes after she’s taken from home forever following a single catastrophic event. After being taken from her previously normal life, Yuri is thrust into a world of sprawling streets, magically mutated monsters, and a crime war for territory stretching across an entire city. The Shape of Home normally updates every Tuesday and Saturday at 6PM GMT, but I'm trying out different upload times to see how people react and attract others in differing timezones. There will be two week long breaks after each story arc's Interlude. This story is also a participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!

The life of a teenage hellworlder
We've all heard of the trope that Earth is a deadly planet by galactic standard; and has thus honed humanity into a ruthless species bent on surviving at all costs. As it turns out, that trope is true. Sapient species that evolve on safe planets develop to be peaceful and compassionate - and the ones that do on dangerous ones become violent and selfish out of need - usually wiping themselves out. But obviously, not every violent species drives itself to extinction - resulting in them being feared and ostracized - including humans. The life of a teenage hellworlder is a sci-fi slice of life story that revolves mainly around Thomas, a sixteen-year-old New Britannian attending a Xeno high school, who befriends a lonely apex predator named Javqua. Getting written by two amateur teen writers, things may sometimes be inconsistent or be confusing - feel free to comment and point out these problems. Gore, profanity, and traumatizing content tags are only for minor events in the story and do not happen often. Chapters are around 1k - 2k words - pretty short, but that's because we're all busy with our own lives and school. Trust us - we would gladly upload 5k word chapters if we could. We tend to upload new chapters every Saturday or Sunday. Please consider supporting us on Patreon!

Grin the Cheat
There was a time when heroes roamed between the Four Great Cities. They fought for kingdoms and princesses and they lived and died by their valour. Or so the stories say. The way the minstrels sing it, everyone had a swashbuckling good time. Nowadays, buckles are rarely swashed. All the great beasts have been slain, all the great treasures unearthed. Princesses are few and far between — the ones worth fighting over, anyway — and the kingdoms have been divvied up between the sons of sons of sons of the heroes of old. No valour required. Frankly, the hero business is in a sorry state. Luckily for Grin the Cheat, thieving and murder are thriving as usual. If you have a moment, please vote for this story at Top Web Fiction. Note: This is my first work of fiction, and as such, there will almost certainly be issues with pacing, grammar, the writing as a whole, and the story as a whole. If I reach a suitable point to pause the story, I will most likely do a complete rewrite as a separate RR posting. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them here or in the discord. Thank you for reading!

Mary Susan Oceanrunner and the Brutus Saint's Academy
Join Mary Susan Oceanrunner on her quest to do... erm... something really important for the world... probably... Ahem. Long gone are the days when every hero could do whatever they wanted - now, we are civilised. We have government. Law. And proper forms. Lots of proper forms. (Final episode 25/07/2022. Also - beta readers far into the book rate the 'gore' degree as below 2/10, so the warning is a bit much) Mary Susan Oceanrunner is a poor girl from the orphanage, who like many others before, has to fulfil her destiny. The prophecy had been told, and she is the only one who can make things right. Erm... probably. Anyway, she can't just go and kill monsters like in the middle ages. First, she must apply for the appropriate permissions, fill the forms, learn about the proper loot taxations... Hey, no one said adventuring would be easy, right? Disclaimers: No claim made by any character by the book should be treated as the author's or anyone else's opinion on any subject. Most likely, it was just the funniest thing the Author could think of at the time of writing. This book contains many references to other works. It will probably be best enjoyed by individuals familiar with at least some of the following: 1) Computer games2) Fantasy in general3) Science fiction4) Tabletop RPGs5) Conspiracy theories6) Corporation work life7) Long forgotten prophecies uttered millennia ago in almost as forgotten languages under a starless night three dusks before the great convergence8) Filling any government-mandated form9) School10) EnglishMy ultimate goal is to make as many people experience something akin to joy while reading (think ~a bit louder exhale through the nose). It doesn't mean every scene will be funny or joyful because that's not how this stuff works. I can neither confirm nor deny having any other hidden agenda outside of that.
