The Ancient Genes Chapter 444

"What are you doing? She is right here...leave me… do you want to cause trouble...how will we explain it to her..." Lisa whispered as she desperately tried to push Max away.
Max looked at her with a frown, "I am the one causing trouble now?"
"Don't try to act innocent….what the hell was going through your head…." Max said as he caught her wrist.
"Ouch! It hurts…" Lisa grimaced in pain.
Max immediately released her, realising that he used a bit more strength than usual.
Lisa glared at him with a tearful eye. She didn't know what was going on, what was she getting this for..
"Why did you do this?" Max asked as he fell back on the couch with a sigh.
"Did what?" Lisa asked as she looked at Max and then at Elly wondering if Max had taken her as a follower too…
"You are trying to play innocent or do you really don't know? If you keep up the act, I am really gonna get pissed now Lisa…." Max gave her a fierce look.
Lisa could clearly feel the anger beneath his face. There were only a few occasions, when she had seen Max this angry…
"I really don't know what you are talking about? What did I do?" Lisa asked helplessly. Elly seemed to be involved as well….this made her even more confused…
"Do you know, your friend here just got her engagement fixed?" Max smiled as he pointed at Elly.
Lisa's eyes widened in surprise. Elly getting engaged. Something like that actually happened…She was a good friend, but her love equation was zero...who was the poor guy….
Lisa smiled as she shook her as she looked at Elly, forgetting about the current situation. "When did it happen? Why didn't you tell anyone before?"
Max was confused looking at her. It didn't seem like Lisa knew anything...now he felt bad for blaming her….but the old man said that Lisa had agreed….just what was going on..
Elly didn't reply...her face didn't look good though….
"Ending up with you will be a curse for his life…." Lisa giggled, making both Max and Elly's complexion even more ugly, "So, who is the unlucky guy?"

Lisa looked at Elly with interest.
But the next instant, her smile slowly disappeared when Elly raised her finger pointing toward the guy sitting next to her.
Max sat there looking at Lisa with dark lines on his face.
"Huh?" Lisa looked at the two and suddenly her complexion turned pale.
'Don't tell me....last night...'
She finally realised it!!!!
"It was you, Elly?" Lisa looked at her nervously.
No wonder Aria had no idea about it!
But why? Grandpa said that…..
Wait! He never took any name!!!!
"So, you are finally remembered something…." Max's chilling voice rang next to her ear.
"No!! It's not like that…"
Before Lisa could get away, Max's palm fell on her head and she had no way to escape his grip.
Now he was angry…it was indeed her…...she was definitely up to something….
Lisa wanted to push Aria towards Max but her grandfather thought it was Elly…the two should have properly clarified it….the old man naturally thought it was Elly while Lisa had Aria in mind...
"I am sorry!!! It was a misunderstanding!!! I didn't mean to do it!!" Lisa finally realised her mistake as tears began to spill out of her eyes. She was worried that Max would crush her head in anger.
"Y-You!! Misunderstanding!!! Seriously...Lisa!! Didn't I tell you to be careful before speaking....today I have to fix this head of yours…." Max shook his head. He had enough of her misunderstanding.
"Leave her…" Elly finally couldn't watch the two of them anymore and stepped into help.
Lisa immediately clinged onto Elly in order to escape from Max's wrath and hid behind her.
"Step aside...I have to find what's going on in her head…" Max said as he took a step forward but Elly intercepted him and protected Lisa.
"I will ask her….." Elly said and turned around to look at Lisa.
Lisa looked at both of them gulped. If she said that she thought it was Aria, Max wouldn't let her go….and even Elly might be angry for being dragged in for no reason…
"I didn't know the identity of the girl….it was grandpa who asked me about it last night..." Lisa meekly replied.

"And you agreed?" Max asked as he looked at her.
"Yes…" Lisa nodded.
"Why?" Max asked with a sigh.
"I...I…" Lisa didn't know what to say..
"Didn't you agree as well?" Lisa changed the topic.
"My Grandpa took the decision for me...I didn't agree…I didn't have any idea about it.....I wanna know why didn't you refuse...you clearly know me…" Max said as he approached her. This time, Elly didn't block him as he had calmed down now.
"I wanted to leave the decision to you….it's not like you wanted to get into this with me...I thought you might have other ideas..…" Lisa didn't look at Max but at the floor afraid that her lie would be caught.
Max's gaze softened when he heard that….he looked at her and then sighed...it was his fault for not listening to the old man last night...he couldn't put the entire blame on her….
Not to mention, her words…..she might have been looking out for him….
'What am I doing…..taking out my anger on her…' Max sighed again as he looked at Lisa.
Lisa was trembling, she was scared of Max and Elly's silence...she was scared of her lie being caught by them...
When she felt Max's palm on her head, she felt her soul leaving out her body.
'I am done!!'
But soon, she realised that the touch this time was a gentle one.
"I am sorry…"
When the word entered her ears, she suddenly felt guilty….
"To you as well…" Max looked at Elly. If he had a bit of control last night, she might not have to been dragged into this..
"I am fine...I agreed from the very beginning. It's not your fault...not your as well Lisa…'' Elly lightly smiled as she looked at Lisa.
Lisa suddenly felt the pressure on her increase. This sense of guilt was terrifying….
After they calmed down, Elly asked about how Max and Lisa ended up together. She was a bit curious….
She still remembered that Lisa and Janet had once teased Aria regarding Max. She couldn't understand why Lisa would do so, when she and Max were like this...this didn't make sense to her at all…
Max answered her truthfully as Lisa desperately tried to stop him with a furious blush. The matter was the darkest secret of her life….the misunderstanding with her grandfather.....she wanted to forget it....and now Max was spreading it....
Elly laughed hard when Max was done. Even Max couldn't help but smile remembering the scene except for the fact it was what got him into this mess…
Lisa glared at the two of them making fun of her with teary eyes and red face. All her guilty conscience was gone. The debt was repaid….she didn't feel anything at all now…
«Bahamut: Come and get the guy..I have finally let my guard off...I am waiting outside the main gates…»
Max stood up after receiving the message and left saying that he had work to do.
As Max left, Elly looked at Lisa and asked, "You really fine with this?"
"Yeah..what problem would I have...it's not like there's anything between us...and we would separate at the first sign if an opportunity arises…" Lisa shook her head as she smiled at Elly.
Elly looked at her but didn't say anything.
…
A few minutes later…the two returned to Janet's room.
"You two are finally here?" Janet smiled as she looked at the two of them.
"Where did you go, Lisa?" Aria asked as she looked at her.
Lisa looked at her sighed before muttering,"I am sorry...I don't dare to support you anymore…"
Max would kill her if he finds out about it….she had to back down while she still had the chance….
"Did you say anything?" Aria asked as she looked at her.
"Yeah...it's not over yet...even if you are alone, don't give up…." Lisa patted her back trying to encourage her.
'What is wrong with her today?' Aria strangely looked at her. Lisa had been speaking about things that she hadn't been able to understand the whole day.....

In a world of magic, ruled by many warring races, the human kingdoms are being pushed to the brink of collapse. In a desperate bid to gain the strength to stand on an equal footing with the other nations, they perform a forbidden ritual to summon combat slaves from another dimension. Unluckily for them, Mors Letus, recently named by their world's God of Death, was one of them. **** Warning **** This is a re-release (The Summoned) of the first book I wrote in partnership with my brother (who later forced the story to be pulled (It was released on his account here)). I have started writing my own version of the story (BOM: The Summoned) and will continue to primarily invest in that, though, now I have permission to re-release this one, I plan finish this as I have the drafts and it was close to the end of the first book. Many characters/scenes and events match/Will match BOM: The Summoned, especially in future arc's (Past Flatner forest). If you don't like spoilers, don't want to get confused between the two stories or hate first attempts at writing (god awful grammar/sentence structure and storytelling), I would advise against reading.
