The Ancient Genes Chapter 528

Mage Association, Capital.
A while ago…
The situation was still tensed. With the appearance of the five Old Progenitors of the Ancient Families, everyone was on their toes. There really was a chill permeating in the air making people's throat dry.
'Is this the so 4th Quarter of Ascension Realm?' Edwinson Lord looked at the five old people and there was a desire in him to reach that stage as well. Even though he had just reached the 2nd Quarter of Ascension realm, he knew he was not a match for them. A single breath from them was enough to kill them.
After one reached, Master Tier, the gap between each subsequent level increased. Fighting above one's level was really difficult and only a few extremely talented individual were capable of it.
As for the Supreme Tier, the ability to fight above was practically unheard of. After all, those capable of reaching Supreme Tier were definitely all geniuses within their generation.
And when it came to Ascension Realm, lets not talk about it. It wasn't about number, but quality. You can not beat someone higher level than you. The gap in strength between each level could be compared to the sky and earth.
"Have your seats. There is no need to be on an edge here." The Old man at Kingsman's seat spoke looking at the Lord of Noble Houses.
The people finally relaxed a bit and got back onto their seats.
"Let me make myself clear here, we are not here to suppress anyone but to establish a cooperative relationship." The old man at Zatch's seat spoke with a pleasant smile on his face.
"True, I am sure you people don't realize the true horror of this situation." The old lady at Leviathan's seat said as she rotated her gaze all around. She had included everyone except her other four peers on saying those words.
These five people had actually experienced the terror of war even if it was not through actual participation. Just like how Max had obtained the Grand Elder's memory through his life force, the people of the Ancient Family too had their means to pass down one's experiences and memories before death.

These Five Progenitors had inherited their ancestor's memories and experiences and knew what was coming forth. But since they were alive, the one next in line to them had no idea about it.
The people of the Ancient Families had been fighting the Demon's for quite a long time and it seemed that they had become to comfortable and were of the belief that they were capable of fighting them.
But could the equilibrium still be maintained with the awakening of the Heavenly Demon, Vaccaria?
No one knew...
"Remember this, the forces we are opposing are not weak at all. Instead thinking that they are stronger than us might be the right thing to do. If we don't cooperate, then there is a chance for humanity to actually perish in this war." The Old Progenitor of Von Family said with calm and serene tone.
People who were feeling that it was just a war with the Dark Society finally had their expression changed. They began to understand the gravity of the situation
"Thank you for your presence, you people may leave now.." One of Old Progenitor said to the Lords of the Noble Houses and these people finally got up and left.
When these people left, the Lord of the Ancient Families began tensed again.
"I can't believe we just took a short break from the outside world and you people became to bicker like a group of children? Do you see each other as enemies? If yes, then go out and fight until only one of you left alive!!" The Old Progenitor of the Storm Family roared in anger and the five Lord's felt a mountain like pressure crashing down on them.
The Lord of the Storm Family was the worst among them, he wasn't shown any mercy unlike others and the pressure immediately sent him down on his knees.
"Leave it be…" One of the Old man waved his hand and he finally let them go.
"I heard that you two managed to find some people who were capable of wielding the Artifact?" The Old Progenitor of Leviathan Family spoke as she looked at Zatch and then at lady behind her.

Both Kingsman's and Storm Lord's face changed. They knew about the Zatch Lord finding Max but when did this witch find someone.
The Lord of Kingsman family looked at the Zatch and Leviathan's faces and realized that Zatch already seemed to have an idea about it. In that case, didn't that mean his son, William who was very close to Stark new about it as well. Now that he thought about it, it really seemed that Max was found too easily by him.
William, you brat!!!
Now he got it, that brat knew that it was impossible to hide Max from the beginning since Max was coming to Capital and that too into the Academy, so he lowered the guard and used Max as bait to take him off from sniffing the news of this new person who had been found by Leviathan.
Rayford couldn't help but smile inwardly. He really had to discipline that brat once he returned.
"Yes, we indeed have managed to find them.." The two Lords replied simultaneously.
"How are they? If they aren't talented then I don't care even if they are capable of wielding the Artifact or not. I would rather use my resources on someone talented.." The Old lady said without batting an eye.
"Well, we have one right here to show to you.." The Zatch Lord said with a proud smile and switched on the television once again.
But the next instant, everyone's eyes constricted at the sight of Max and beast fighting head to head.
"He had barely trained for two years and this is his progress…" Zatch Lord couldn't help but further add onto it.
"Good! This is what I want!" The Old Progenitor of Zatch Family couldn't help but praise in approval. Even the other Old guys seemed to have their eyes shining in delight.
"But why have you placed him in there?" The Old Progenitor of the Von family suddenly realized the problem.
"True, you will limit the other kids from shining and realizing their full potential by competing them with him.." Even though these people were drawn to Max, they still knew that a war wasn't fought with a single person. Nurturing other capable individual was just as much as important.
After all, if one went through the history, there were many instances were people carrying the genes of their own era had managed to climb the peak and stood shoulder to shoulder with the Awakened ones.
"Pull him out, even if he is strong for his age, the beast is still a level higher for him to fight alone and there aren't many who can match his pace and support him properly.." The old lady suddenly shook her head and made the call.
The Lady of Leviathan family behind her nodded before taking out her transmitter and passing down the message.
"I think you are underestimating him…" the Old Progenitor of the Von Family suddenly said, his eyes hadn't left Max for a second.
When everyone heard him, they immediately looked towards the screen and saw Max bursting out with flame and water as the dragon and Phoenix collided with the Commanding Beast.
The scene played out right in front of their eyes and when Max stabbed the dagger into the beast's eyes and they knew they had definitely underestimated him. His grit, determination, battle sense and will power had really shocked them.
He was someone worth nurturing for this people...
And as Max was about to deal the final blow, his body suddenly disappeared after being consumed in a white light.
"You really found a monster it seems." The Old Progenitor of the Von family said looking at the Zatch Lord who was all smile.
'Well, we have to see if the monster could grow up in time or not…' Everyone had the same thought in their mind.

Rise of the First Necromancer
Asrael Nessarat awakes on a sandy dune with a mouthful of sand and nothing but tattered rags in his posession. As the High Magus of the school of Necromancy, he once aspired to prove to the Emperor that magic still held a place in their society. But that day came, passed and inevitably accelerated his kind's downfall. Now; they are hunted, strung up and burned on pyres throughout the Empire by the Emperor's holy Inquisition- an efficient and ruthless army hell-bent on bleeding every last droplet of magic from the lands. With nothing but a mouthful of sand and tattered rags; Asrael is determined to seek the one thing his cold, still heart desires. Vengeance. This story can, at times, get very dark. It is not recommended for the faint of heart. This is not a story of an overtly powerful wizard who can pulverize his enemies from across the world, nor is it in any way, shape or form a joyous tale. We follow Asrael as he and his companions explore and seek to change an unjust world, where kindness and acceptance are exceptions, rather than the rule. If you are looking for a story to inspire hope or joy, this is not it. If you wish to read about likeable, heroic people, turn around. If you wish to see good battle evil, where the cut in between is clear, then this is not for you.

The Heretic Legion
Cover Art: Undead Master by Changling Assassin. Located at: http://fav.me/dbm60ex Used under license Creative Commons attribution non-commercial 3.0 per bottom right of the linked page. Summary: Just the story of a necromancer and his eventual army. Currently, the only major thing of note is a pretty fleshed out magic system. No set list of spells or specific incantations. Just rules similar to the laws of physics, within those laws you can do whatever is possible. Updates: I work Sunday thru Wednesday and updates tend to revolve around my scheduled days off. Currently, I release content as I feel it's ready for release because that's what I myself would prefer from an author. Warnings: This story is graphic. blood/necromancy magic that requires self-harm to use. explicit descriptions of sexuality. (though fairly tame outside of the marked chapters, at least compared to said chapters) and is generally darker in tone. If you're concerned you might start to read only to be turned off by these elements. See 7. Teetering on the Edge for an example of the graphic nature of violence or 9. Explicit Content for a fairly self-contained example of the most explicit of the sexual content.

Four story anthology
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] [participant in #NaNoWriMo] Preface: This fiction will contain four different stories set up as a challenge for myself and to get better at writing. The challenge for royal road writathon is a 55.555 word goal while the nanowrimo challenge is 50.000 words. Reader suggestions is turned on, feel free to point out errors I missed and I'll fix them up! Chasing sun, napping softly: Cultivation/Xianxia genre. Some parts will poke at the ridiculousness of the Xianxia gerne. We follow the life of a magical fox monster, who doesn't like how the cultivation world works. Said beast seems to have more knowledge than is usual for normal magical beasts. In it's infinite wisdom it decided to search for the main character of the cultivation world to have a cozy and safe place beside him. Our fox will act as a "wise beast" to coast along on the main characters rise to greatness, all for peace, happiness and that amazing napping spot in the sun. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing in first person. Comedic effect between talking vaguely and sounding wise. The cost of heroism: A story more centered around fights and mental health of hired mercenaries/heroes. The world is infected with an eldritch corruption. Humans are trying their best to explore and clear out wilderness and the dungeons hiding in them to establish new cities. Lords seek for hired hands to do the professional work. Thanks to the setting, the story will show how awful pasts are the norm and how pragmatic people became thanks to that. People exchange their sanity for riches, fame and gods acceptance. Interpersonal relationships change drastically and quickly. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing grim scenes/imparting a feeling of how grim the world is. Writing fight scenes. Showing different mental states. Describing their influence on people during fights, walks or even after successful or failed campaigns. Who will be the next powerhouse? : A story about a gaming show, it's host Staan and the different participants. Stereotype characters, stereotype backstories, silly challenges and quizzes. The winner of those challenges gets powerups for their power system. Be it magic, ki, psychic power or anything else imaginable and unimaginable to reach the power of gods. The challenges for myself with this story: A softer tone for storytelling. Making the reader smile and enjoy themselves. A different try at slice of life story. I was left behind on earth as my family conquered another world and enjoys riches, but that's okey because I got a cheat too! : Stereotypical Isekai story parody twisted into an Urban Fantasy story. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing over the top and overdramatic scenarios/scenes Writing in first person. Walking into stereotypical scenarios and making them more dramatic/giving them a twist. Different type of humor.

Knights of the Partition
We like to think there are no monsters. No magic, no gods, nothing waiting in the night but the stars and cold, hard science. It’s a comforting thought. It isn't true. Magic isn't common, mind you. Working forces is difficult in the Age of Man, and gods are limited in the ways they interact with the world. The great monsters of old have mostly been slain, or sealed away. But rare or not, the magic isn't gone. The great Working that protects us from the horrors of the past does not have the power to destroy such things. Instead, it created the Partition, a tapestry of worlds beyond the boundary of our own. There the magic roams, searching for a way to come back. I am a Knight of Avalon. One of the protectors of the Partition. How did I get this job? Poor decisions, mostly.
