Falling For Miss Captain : LOVE Vs DUTY Chapter 74

Ever since she was young, Ella wanted to become a doctor like her late mother. She grows up with that dream but her father forced her to join the army.
The father, Lt. Gen. Haric Geraci doesn't plan to make his daughter a soldier at first. But his only son, Major Ellis Geraci was so incompetent compared to him who was used to known as the best in his time. Hoping that his daughter could follow his footsteps and achieve many great things, he shed apart Ella's childhood dream.
Lt. Gen. Haric was not completely wrong about it. His daughter was more competent than his son and as such, he took pride in his daughter.
Even during their training times, Eleanor used to tell Yelena how much she wished to be a doctor and the latter still remembered about it.
"I already give up on that dream." Ella sighed. "I'm already 25 years old and it's too late to start new things. Besides, my father won't approve of that." She stated very reasonable problems.
"My brother always say this to me." Yelena glanced at her friend and recite her brother's words. "If you ever wish to do something in life, go for it. You only live once and life is too short to waste on things you don't like."
The late brother always encouraged Yelena to break free from her mother's string and he told her to pursue whatever she wanted to do. He always told her that he will support her whatever choice she makes.
Yelena slightly smiled when she thought about her brother's words. "Back then, I was so young and naive. I never took his encouraging words seriously. But I'm fine now because I love my current job and I can't imagine myself doing any other thing."
Ella thought about what Yelena told her. She always took her job seriously and gave her all but she was never happy with it. Will it be really okay to start anew? She cannot make a decision.
Though it's only been a year since she met Arias, she already decided to spend her life with him. But she never said this to the Colonel. She won't give him the pleasure!
The McLean family were also aware of their relationship and they were happy with it. They even wanted them to marry soon as Arias was already 29 years old.
Marriage was the thing she never thought about until she met the Colonel. Spending time with him was always so fun and comforting that she could never get enough of it. Still, she won't tell him these things.

"Whatever choice you make, I will support you," Yelena reassured her friend who struggled to come to a decision. She said the exact words which her brother always used to encourage her.

It was around 8 pm in the capital of Edeladon yet Felix was still in his office. Being away for three months took a huge toll in his work and he tried his best to put things back to normal.
He will be busy performing his royal duties the next day. Ah! Being both a businessman and a royal was more than exhausting! Balancing his two life was always very tiring for the 26 years old Prince.
Since his childhood, he was interested in business. He used to watch his late grandfather working and he always wanted to follow his footsteps. As such, he even finished his MBA from the most prestigious university in the country. Ever since he joined the family business, he made a great contribution in expanding the Royal Group.
Going through the files that were piled up in his desk, the Prince continuously shook his pen while working. His hair was a bit dishevelled and his eyebags were impossible to not notice. Two consecutive nights without sleeping and started working as soon as he landed on his homeland, it was too much for an average person.
He was fully concentrated on his work without knowing the time until the sound of his phone ringing interrupted him. Lifting the phone which was placed on the desk, he noticed that it was just a number.
He swiped the green button and while he was about to speak, he heard a man's voice from the other line.
"I see that you are happy again these days. Too bad. I truly enjoyed seeing you suffer."
Hearing the unpleasant words from the other line, Felix raised a brow. "Who are you?" He asked. He put down his pen and shifted all his attention to the mysterious call and recorded the call right away.
"Someone who cannot see you being happy. So, I plan to take away your happiness this time as well."
"What do you mean? Who do you think you are?" Felix instantly rose from his seat and tightly clenched his left fist. Who was brazen enough to threaten him this way?!
"Don't be so worked up, Felix Valestra. You cannot do anything. You lose to me last time and it will be the same this time."
Last time? Felix's eyes widened when he realized what the meaning could be. Barely holding back his anger, he asked, "Are you the one who killed Cara?"

"Are you talking about your dead lover who committed suicide? Forget about that. Do you have any idea where I am now?"
His lover who was miles away was the first to cross the Prince' mind. Was she in danger? His eyes become fiercely red when the feeling entered his mind. "Where are you? I will kill you!"
The laughter of the man echoed in the Crown Prince's ears. He clenched his fist so tight that his fingers printed a mark on his palms and it was followed by a slight blood!
"You can find out that yourself."
"Hello! Hello! You bastard!" The Prince's shouting was useless as the man had already ended the call.
Placing both his palms on the table, Felix was fuming with rage. "Damn it!" He hardly bangs his fist on the desk and his eyes resembled a wild beast.
Hearing his voice and the sound of him banging the desk, Cayden, Matthew and one another guard rushed inside the Prince's office. "Your Highness, is something wrong?" Cayden asked with an anxious face. The other two guards were also equally anxious as him.
Staring at the number which was still displayed on his phone, the Prince ordered, "Find out the owner of this number. Right now!"
Shifting his gaze to the Prince's phone, Cayden instantly ran towards the desk and note down the number. "We will have a result as fast as possible."
The guards bowed and ran out of the room at once. Cayden makes a phone call and deals with the number while the other guards were on standby at the outside door of the Prince's office.
Still placing his hands on the desk with his eyes glued to the phone, Felix almost panicked when Yelena crossed his mind once again. He stood straight at once and picked up his phone. Before calling the call button, he took a deep breath to calm down himself. If he made it too obvious, it might startle the woman.
He finally makes the call after spending seconds to calm his nerves.
"You seem to be busy today. I was wondering if I should call you." He was greeted by Yelena's warm yet playful voice and it made him calm down in even the slightest bit.
Slowly sitting down on his chair, he inwardly sighed in relief. "Don't hesitate to call in the future. I will always have time for you." He made a deliberate paused and then asked, "What are you doing? Is everything alright?" He tried his best to sound normal.
"I'm at home. Ella just left after a good chat and a dinner. What about you? Do you have dinner? It's almost 9 in your country." Yelena asked while sitting in her bedroom. She didn't sense anything different. The Prince had always asked her if everything was alright and maybe she got used to it.
Felix didn't even know it was already so late. He rubbed his temples knowing beforehand that she won't be pleased to know that he had neglected his meals. "Not yet. I will have it when I go home."
He never liked the idea of eating alone in that huge dining table of the royal palace. But due to their busy schedules, the royal family members didn't get to eat together that often. Plus, he always went home late than anyone.
Yelena frowned when she heard him. "I already told you many times not to neglect your meals." The way she talked was like a mother who was worry about his son and it made the Prince smiled.
Hearing her voice had made him feel at ease. For a split second, he even forgot the unpleasant thing he just encountered. Ever since they met, she was the only one who could ease his pain. She was his only sunshine in his once frozen heart.
While his face was brightened up as he started to live in the moment, Cayden's appearance brought Felix back to reality.
"Your Highness, I..." Cayden instantly paused his words when the Prince lifted his left hand, gesturing him to stop talking.
"Yelena, I will call you later. Something urgent came up." He calmly said to the woman on the other line.
"Okay. Don't exhaust yourself."
"Will do." He ended the call and shifted his gaze to Cayden. "Continue."
"I just got the details of that number. It is the number of a phone booth and it's not from our country." Cayden informed the Prince.
"Silveren?" Felix guessed with a seemingly blank face.
"Yes. The phone booth is located near a huge apartmental complex in the capital of Silveren." Cayden stated the information he received just a minute ago.
Apartmental complex? The location instantly rang a bell of realization in the Prince's already uneasy mind.....

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx.
