The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 48

Evette's determination was not a tiny bit altered, but possibly, reinforced instead. Her eyes seemed to glow with jealousy. He is my man! I'm the only one that deserves him!
Though frightened, Frank was experienced, and he reacted quickly. "Well played, Mr. Davidson. I was just testing you to make sure if you really love my daughter, Nathalia. Now that I'm sure, I'm really happy. I will never be against your engagement for sure. We will be there at the party."
Frank's sudden change of attitude crossed Evette greatly. Her eyes were flaming red. As she was about to say something, Anne dashed forward to cover her mouth just in time.
Spencer was pleased with the response as he said, "Aha, that's the real Mr. Carter. Money comes first, right? Well, please take good care of my Nathalia, and I shall give her a real home very soon..."
He paused for a few seconds and then continued, "By the way, I might think about doing some cooperation with the Carters on a bigger scale." He threw a bait out.
The words 'my Nathalia' and 'real home' caught Nathalia's heart. She felt grateful and startled, but then she thought His Nathalia? I'm not his. I'm my own.
However, she couldn't help smiling a sweet smile, unintentionally. She looked loved and pleased. Evette caught sight of her smile, and her anger intensified.
Frank sighed in relief and agreed immediately, "Sure. No problem at all."
As he hung up the phone, he wiped the cold sweat off his forehead, acknowledging again the fact that Spencer Davidson was not someone to cross.
Young and aggressive. No wonder even the seasoned tycoons don't dare go against him.
Nathalia kept her head low to avoid others' discovery of her sneer. "Dad, can I go now?" she asked in a timid voice.
Frank took Nathalia's hand gently and implied, "Nathalia, be smart when you are around Spencer and if you hear anything, let me know straight away, alright? My good girl."

"Hmm. What do you mean, dad?" Nathalia looked at him with her innocent eyes.
She's just nothing like Evette. Too slow. I just don't understand what's about her that Spencer Davidson likes. Frank thought, but he smiled kindly and replied patiently, "I mean business, cooperation. I think he will talk about it with you, won't he?"
I can only hope that she can help provide good news about new investment or cooperation.
"Aha," Nathalia exclaimed as if she just figured it out, "I see. Of course, he talks to me about everything."
That was an answer that Frank liked a lot, though somehow he had the feeling that she was implying something else. Yet, Nathalia's innocent look quickly erased his worries. She's just a silly naïve girl in love.
"Great. Good girl. So, remember, whatever you heard, tell me. I would like to get closer to him, and it's for your own good."
What a caring father he made himself sound!
It might have work on the old Nathalia, but she was not what she used to be anymore. She sneered inside but showed nothing but gratitude on her face.
Frank was pleased. So easy. He thought and handed Nathalia a bank card. "There's half a million in it. Get whatever you like and dress up nicely for your dates."
"Thank you very much, dad." Nathalia smiled broadly. She accepted the card and left for the school happily.
As soon as Nathalia left, Evette pushed Anne away. Her heart ached, and tears streamed down her face. She screamed, "I can't allow it. I can't. Dad, mum, you have both promised me that Spencer is mine."
Anne seemed to have remembered something, and she said slyly, "Don't cry, sweetie. This is not the end. Mum's got a plan."
Evette stopped crying, and her eyes sparkled. "Really? Mum, what's your plan?"

Anne murmured something in Evette's ear. Her tears dried, and she smiled victoriously.
"You are the best mum! I love you."
The sky was painted grey with heavy clouds. It was drizzling. It somehow made people feel heavy.
Cars were parked outside the school. Parents or drivers were waiting for the kids or employers. The Carters' car was parked right at the very front today, making sure it would not be missed.
Nathalia waved goodbye to Sophie and got in the car to find Evette waiting for her and, surprisingly, she beamed at Nathalia. What was even stranger was that she had changed her outfit.
A tight dress was revealing almost half of her firm breasts and most of her long fair legs. One had to admit that she looked stunning, though possibly too revealing.
Even the driver couldn't help glancing at her in the mirror now and then. Nathalia made no comments. It's her own choice. If she likes it, I don't even care if she goes out naked. It has nothing to do with me.
Nathalia's mind drifted with the drizzling rain. How is he? He said he's been busy lately. I wonder what about it.
She had not seen him for a few days, and to her own surprise, she actually missed him a bit. Holding her phone in her hand, she hesitated for a while, and in the end, she gave up.
"Here," Evette said cheerfully, and it brought Nathalia back to reality from her thoughts.
Nathalia got out of the car, stood there, confused, "Where are we?" A five-floor-tall building adorned with blinding lights stood in front of them.
Stupid and boring. Evette thought.
"Seriously? It's The Night."
Nathalia then remembered. The Night was the top club in town, frequented only by the rich. The average cost a night would be around five thousand dollars. No one would walk in feeling comfortable without a decent amount of money in their pocket.
Nathalia turned around, "Allen, please take me home." She said to the driver, plainly.
Evette, abnormally, grabbed Nathalia's arm and smiled the warmest smile ever at her, "Nathalia, please, we are having a gathering today, everyone wants to see you and has been asking me to make sure you are joining. You won't let us down, will you?" She pleaded.
Nathalia knitted her brows. Her clean face was a great contrast to Evette's heavily make-up adorned beauty. "We shouldn't be here. You are too young. And mum and dad will be worried if we get home late." Nathalia put her guard up and was cautious about what Evette was plotting.
Evette showed a slight sign of irritation but stuck to her plan. "It's ok. Nathalia, you are worrying too much. I've told mum and dad, and they both agree to us going out. Come relax. Let's have some fun, like sisters do, you know. Come on, come with me." She went on pleading in her gentle tone.
Nathalia sneered inside, Huh, like sisters. The truth is we are Not sisters.
Evette went on persuading and Nathalia rejected her for a while. It soon gathered a small crowd. A good looking guy came out from the crowd, "Evette, what's taking you so long?"
"Tony, come help me, please. I've been trying to get Nathalia to join me, but she just won't." Evette answered. Tony was in the same class as Evette, one of her loyal admirers.
Tony and Evette exchanged an understanding look, each grabbed Nathalia's arms forcefully and escorted her in.
