The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 104

Sophie's smile developed to a happy grin. He knows my name! My god. He knows my name!
Nathalia waited for a bit, then walked to the door. "Who is it? Oh, it's you. Matt. What's the matter? Come on in."
Everyone had been busy, but Matt Miller seemed to have disappeared recently. Too busy to make a presence.
Sophie then realized she had been staring at Matt and forgotten to invite him in. Nathalia watched her and noticed the flush on her face. Aha, Sophie. Hmm. I didn't know that. She's got a good taste, though not sure if it's the right choice as he can be a troublesome one. Nathalia thought and smiled at her. Sophie flushed again and hurried into the kitchen, "I will make some tea."
Matt glanced around the flat. It was a small place but tidy and cozy. A few green plants sat by the window and brought the place of life. He took a seat on the beige couch, and casually, he said, "Someone is investigating you. Try not to go out often."
Nathalia was startled at first, and then, she nodded casually as she understood that it was expected, "Thanks for letting me know." Who is it? She wondered.
"Jack's statement doesn't do you any favor. You might get a call from the police at any time. Just try not to go to the police alone." Matt went on in a casual tone, though what he was saying wasn't anything casual.
"Ok. I will be careful." Nathalia had prepared herself, and thus, she wasn't so worried about it. But with Matt, she wasn't sure how she felt. She was grateful for sure but more puzzled.
He had helped her a few times and been very kind to her. What does he want? Nathalia wondered.

Matt finally looked at Nathalia in her eyes. He didn't say anything, but it said so much. Nathalia felt her heart skip a beat, and she quickly looked away. It doesn't matter how he feels about me. Because of his relationship with Spencer, he and I walk two different paths.
Matt looked down at his feet, disheartened. Then he took out a file bag and put it on the table in front of Nathalia.
Nathalia knitted her brows, "What is it?"
A rare smile adorned Matt's face, "A present for you for being part of Queenland. We are both Queenlanders now."
"You graduated from Queenland?" Surprised, Nathalia exclaimed with a smile. Like a curious kitten, she opened the bag, and her eyes lit up. "Matt, this is..." She couldn't find the right words. Now I'm more confused.
Seeing her cute and sweet face, he seemed to be brightened up a bit. He smiled and said, "It's yours."
Nathalia's jaw dropped a little bit, amazed, and delighted. She felt like she'd fallen into a dream, surreal. Just then, Sophie came out from the kitchen with a cup of tea. She put it down gently on the table and said cheerfully, "Tea for Matt. Nathalia said, I make good tea. I hope you like it."
The sweet smile, the light in her eyes, the flush on her cheeks were all signs of affection. Young and innocent.
However, Matt seemed oblivious to such apparent affection. He simply took the cup, had a sip, and said, "Nice. Thank you." Sophie's eyes sparkled at the comment.
That's why she's been asking about Matt now and then. I should have noticed earlier. Nathalia thought as she watched quietly. However, it seems like he is not sharing the same feelings. Hmm. Perhaps that's the way it is and what we can do about it anyway.

At the conference room at the Carter's Company, all the shareholders gathered, exchanging looks, uncertain, worried. Ann and Evette were seated in the middle with a bitter look. Frank's personal secretary stood next to Ann, whispering something to her ear.
Evette glared at the shareholders, sulking how you used to flatter and plead with us! Pretentious assholes. Now you are trying to take over the company. Fake. Shameless shitty people.
Ann listened and waited for the secretary to finish reading the report, then she glanced around and thought, great, all the ten shareholders are here. Huh. What do they want now?
She made a slight cough. Everyone went quiet and turned to look at her. Her face was stern and serious. "Frank is still in the hospital. He's in a coma. Is there anything so important that you have to talk about it at this time?" She had managed to compose herself and sounded calm.
The shareholders looked at each other. They didn't dare to push too much, but who would know when Frank was going to wake up or if he would wake up at all.
After a few seconds of silence, Nicolas let out a sigh and said, "We don't really have a choice. The company needs someone to manage. If Mr. Carter is not waking up, we will have to elect a new president..." He looked worried.
Evette jumped up from her seat and yelled, "No way. My dad owns the most shares. He's been the president for years. How can you do this to him?! This is so cruel and mean." Her face was red with anger.
To the shareholders, she was acting like an irrational kid who thought that screaming and shouting could get them everything they wanted. Compared to Nathalia, who was only a year older, she had set an example of the opposite extreme.
How Nathalia had behaved and spoken calmly and cleverly at the previous meeting was a great contrast to the spoiled and childish Evette who only knew to shout.
Nicolas glanced at her in disdain, "You are too young to understand. Keep your mouth shut." Ann was furious, but she tried not to show her anger. Don't you speak to us like that! One day you will regret it. Instead, she let out a pathetic sight and said in an almost pleading tone, "Nicolas, you and Frank are like best friends. How can you say such a thing when Frank's in the hospital?"
Most men fell for her, a beautiful-looking woman pleading, but not Richard. He was not interested in women. Icily, he said, "What do you mean? We are just thinking about the company. Ever since Frank got attacked, the share price has dropped."
As soon as the shareholders were reminded of the money situation, their pity for Ann vanished. Money matters more than beauty. When there's money, there's beauty.

I believe in the healing and therapeutic power of writing. And so, I wrote poems. Poems that I want to share with the world. This is the collection of the poetry that I wrote so far.
