The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 141

Nathalia smiled and handed a bunch of flowers to Mrs. Davidson, "Nice to meet you, Mrs. Davidson, I've been told that you love lilies. This is for you." Her manners were elegant and proper. She wasn't over-polite nor submissive. She was just herself.
A surprised smile appeared on Mrs. Davidson's face. She was about to accept the flowers, but Anna stopped her.
Jealousy filled Anna's heart, and she glared at Nathalia, "She's the girl that got engaged to Spencer. She won't let Spencer go, shameless."
It looked as if Nathalia didn't even hear Anna. She was indifferent to Anna's words and didn't even take a look at her. Anna was invisible to her.
Spencer frowned, annoyed by Anna's comment.
Mrs. Davidson's face changed instantly, and she withdrew her hands. "What? Spencer, why won't you listen to mum? These women are only after your money. The only girl that truly loves you is Anna."
Nathalia couldn't help giggling. "Mrs. Davidson, how can you tell?" She asked plainly. Nathalia wasn't someone that would try to please others just for the sake of it.
She had compromised herself for Spencer and not to think about what they had done to her.
Mrs. Davidson answered without hesitation, "How can I tell? Isn't it obvious? Anna never lacks money. She's been waiting for Spencer for years. If that's not true love, what is it? But, you! Who are you here to try to separate them? You are not welcomed here." She stood next to Anna, assured that Nathalia was not to be trusted.
"Mum!" Spencer exclaimed, displeased with his mother's comment.
Nathalia was someone that would do something if someone told her not to do it and vice versa. Now that she was not welcomed, then she would invite herself in. Instead of leaving, she sat herself down, "Mrs. Davidson, do you really love your son?"

Mrs. Davidson nodded like a kid, certain of the fact, "Of course, I do. Don't you try to drive a wedge between my son and me? Spencer is..."
Nathalia wasn't annoyed by her. She was even feeling sympathetic. However, what Mrs. Davidson said angered her. "Is that why you see him as a possession? You decide who he should marry, and he doesn't have a say at all? I feel sorry for him."
Mrs. Davidson almost panicked. She looked at Spencer with an innocent look as if she was begging for help. "Nonsense. It's not true." She shouted anxiously.
"Nathalia, please don't..." Spencer felt hurt for his mother. She was not well, and that was why he had always agreed with her to please her. He would never ever say anything close to what Nathalia said to his mother.
Nathalia glanced at Spencer as if to say, you should know how I will act before you invite me here. I don't compromise or pretend.
"It iS true. Spencer doesn't like this girl here, but you force him to marry her. Have you ever thought about how he feels? Have you ever asked him if he agrees? Have you ever thought about if he will be happy or not? Or it doesn't matter to you as long as you are happy? Is this what you call love?" Nathalia continued.
Her words were like needles poking at Mrs. Davidson's heart. Her face went pale. She was terrified, shocked, and confused. "You are..."
No one had ever spoken to her as Nathalia did. No one would ever question her. Yet, somehow she could not deny all these questions. I want the best for my son, and I want him to be happy, but is that how others see me? I'm a selfish, terrible mother?
Anna embraced Mrs. Davidson, and with tears in her eyes, she turned to Spencer, "Spencer, she's horrible. How could she say such horrible things?"

Spencer hesitated, not sure how to react. It wasn't a good feeling to choose between two people he loved. They were the two most important souls to him. He didn't want to lose either of them or cause any harm to them.
Nathalia wasn't so concerned about it. She defended, "Did I say anything wrong? To love someone is not to force them, not to threaten them, but to wish them happy. Your son is a person. He has feelings. He has his life to live. He's not a pet, Mrs. Davidson. He's not a possession. Do you wish to see your son unhappy for the rest of his life?"
Nathalia didn't really know the way to communicate with Mrs. Davidson. She was simply speaking out her genuine feelings and thoughts. Whether these opinions were accepted or not, she didn't care much.
Anna retorted instantly, "Nonsense. Spencer will be very happy with me. I will make him the happiest man in the world."
Nathalia sneered, "To love someone that doesn't love you back isn't anything wrong, but to believe that he loves you and you have to possess him is sick. Your so-called love is to take freedom and happiness from Spencer, to possess him and see him suffer for the rest of his life."
It's pure selfishness in the name of love. Nathalia thought and despised it. Also, I haven't even revenged on you kidnapping me.
Her words were sharp and true. They stabbed Anna like a knife. She threw herself into Mrs. Davidson's arms and cried, "How could she say such things to us? I don't want to see her. Make her leave, please."
Mrs. Davidson herself was confused with many thoughts coming up in her mind. Subconsciously she waved her arm and said to Spencer, "Spencer, take her away."
Spencer gently pulled Nathalia's hand, thinking She's my tough Nathalia. It's impossible to expect her to compromise and pretend.
However, she had spoken out the thoughts and words that had been suppressed in him for a long time. He felt the freedom to hear them expressed. And he felt lighter.
This is my girl. True and real to her own feelings. Free to express herself. I love her to pieces.
She was braver than him.
Nathalia grabbed a glass of water on the table, had a drink, and went on, "Mrs. Nathalia Carter, shouldn't you give your son some time and listen to him, hear how he feels. Are you sure you want to sacrifice his happiness just for a girl?"
Mrs. Davidson was taken aback, "No, I..." she couldn't think properly. She had never argued with anyone before, and she wasn't good at expressing herself. However, she was somehow sure of one thing, "As long as you are not around, Spencer will be happy to be with Anna, and they will be happy together..."
"I disagree." Spencer voiced himself suddenly.
Mrs. Davidson looked at Spencer, completely at a loss. "Spencer?"
Anna echoed, "Spencer?" Tears ran down her cheeks, sharp pain in her heart.
"I used to see Anna as my younger sister, and I loved her like a sister, but now, to me, she's just an annoying young girl. Mum, if you force me to marry her, then I would rather not get married at all. I would rather live my whole life alone than being with her." Spencer finally expressed himself openly. He couldn't hide or compromise anymore.
