The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 154

Nathalia was silent for a few seconds. The look on her face, the way she stared at Anna, was too complex to comprehend. Anna felt like Nathalia's eyes were burning her, as if there was a fire flaring in them, and it made Anna tremble in fright.
"I will count to three, and you have to answer me. One, two..." Anna threatened feebly.
With her eyes fixed on Anna still, Nathalia lifted her eyebrows and said, "Sure."
Anna was surprised to hear so, though at the same time, found it reasonable. Hypocritical. Huh. You don't truly love Spencer. You are just faking it, and now I know.
However, Anna wasn't assured. "You have to swear. If you don't keep your promise, you will go to hell."
Nathalia looked into Anna's eyes and smiled a mocking smile, "Sure." She swore as Anna requested. She didn't even blink once. "I will keep my promise, or I will go to hell." She said it steadily as she stared at Anna.
Again, her stare sent Anna shivering. "You are an idiot. I've never met anyone as stupid as you. Why? Just for a stranger? Is it worth it?"
Why? What was it for?
Nathalia couldn't understand it either. Yet, the cold smile remained on her face, and she replied sharply, "You don't need to know. You don't deserve to know."
Anna came back with a pale face but looking cheerful. "Ha. Nathalia Carter, now, you can fuck off."
Nathalia didn't even take a look at her but kept her eyes at the light of the operating room. "No hurries. As soon as I know that Mrs. Davidson is out of danger, I will excuse myself. I can't trust someone as irresponsible as you."
The cheerfulness disappeared from Anna's face. She glared at Nathalia with hatred but quickly looked away as she saw the coldness in Nathalia's eyes. It was intimidating and unchallengeable. Refusing to give up, Anna said, "Nathalia Carter, you will regret it. Huh. Let's see."

After a long night's waiting, the sun made its appearance, and the light of the operating room switched off. Everyone jumped up from their seats. The doctors walked out slowly, looking solemn and heavy-hearted.
The chief doctor said with a frown, "The operation was very successful, but Mrs. Davidson doesn't seem to have a strong will, and it all depends on God and herself whether she will wake up or not."
On hearing so, Nathalia almost fainted. Her heart ached as if a sharp claw was gripping it, suffocating, tight.
Where does this pain come from? Who is it for, for the one giving up on her life, or for myself? How can she be giving up?
Anna screamed and yelled angrily, "You are useless! Useless! And you call yourselves the best doctors in town?! Just a piece of shit..."
The doctors were, of course, not happy to hear her comments, but they dared not express their anger. "We are doctors. We are not God. We suggest someone that Mrs. Davidson cares about the most stay with her, talk to her, and encourage her. Miracles can happen."
Anna made a few attempts to call Spencer, but couldn't reach him. "Spencer's still on the plane. Not sure when he will be back." She said, feeling frustrated while thinking, I've donated so much blood! It will be such a waste if she dies. No, she can't die.
Nathalia looked around and sighed. She doesn't even have anyone close to her around when she needs them the most. This is so sad.
"Find out where Curt Davidson is." She said, half demanding the bodyguard, half talking to herself.
It was a beautiful morning for Nancy. She was preparing breakfast for her son and lover while singing cheerfully. What a wonderful thing to wake up with the man I love every morning and enjoy breakfast together! She thought.

"Mum is breakfast ready? I'm starving." Matt asked.
"Yep. Please tell your Dad. Breakfast's ready." Nancy replied with a loving smile.
"Alright."
Just then, the bell rang. Matt had a look through the peephole and was shocked to see who it was. He quickly opened the door. "Nathalia, what brought you here? You don't look very well. What happened?" Matt asked anxiously.
Nathalia looked tired, stern, and serious. She pushed Matt away and rushed in just to see Curt coming out from his room. She glared at Curt, "I'm here for him."
"For me?" Curt was startled.
Just then, Nancy came out from the kitchen with a few plates in her hands, "Who are you? What are you doing in our house?" She questioned worriedly. Is she a mistress? Is Curt having an affair? Tears filled her eyes as she wondered.
Nathalia glanced at the 'loving family' thought of Mrs. Davidson fighting against death on her own, and she felt a sudden, intense attack of fury. Bang. She threw her bag at Curt Davidson.
We have been waiting, praying, worrying all night at the hospital while the man she loves the most was sleeping with another woman, having a great time! What is he?! How can he be so cold and cruel?!
Curt didn't expect the attack coming and was too slow to dodge. The bag hit his face. He cried out, "Ouch! Nathalia Carter, are you crazy?!" What's this girl doing? She's behaving strangely.
Nancy was as enraged as worried. She ran to Curt and asked anxiously, "Honey, how can you do this to me?" then turned to Matt, "Matt, get her out of our house!"
Matt was shocked by Nathalia's sudden explosion of anger. He knew the shameful things that his father had done and was thinking that was probably why.
Worried that his father would hurt Nathalia, he tried to calm everyone down and said gently, "Nathalia, what happened?"
Without any sleep all night, Nathalia was exhausted and losing control of her emotions. She shouted furiously, "You still have the appetite for food?! Curt Davidson, you disgust me! You failed as a father, and you failed completely as a husband! Your wife is fighting death on her own, and you are here with your mistress, having a great time! You are fucking disgusting! Fuck you!"
Anger built up as she screamed, and she picked up the plates on the table and smashed them onto the floor. She was crying.
Matt was astounded. He had never seen Nathalia like this. The Nathalia he had known was strong, patient, and sometimes proud, but never mad like she was now. It was like a dormant volcano suddenly erupting.
"Nathalia, please calm down. Please." Matt almost pleaded. He was more concerned that it would anger his father, and he would hurt Nathalia. He knew very well what his father would do when he was enraged.
However, to Matt's surprise, Curt simply frowned and said, "What happened to her? No one told me anything. By the way, where's my phone?"
Nathalia picked up another plate and was about to throw it at Curt, thinking what the fuck? No one told you anything?! Matt responded quickly and took the plate off Nathalia's hands, held her tight, hoping to calm her down.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week. If you want to read it all ahead of schedule and get access to some premium-exclusive bonus content, the entire book is available for purchase; links to the appropriate storefront pages will be posted at the end of each chapter. This story is also being posted to Scribblehub.
