The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 239

Spencer was so enraged that he was shaking. He slapped Matt's hand away and said furiously, "Your mother tried to kill me so you can be the heir of the family. How dare you show up like this? Aren't you ashamed? Are you here to fulfill your mother's wish?"
Spencer showed no respect, nor did he care about how Matt felt or how others thought. His anger was obvious, his questions right to the point. He had had enough. Like mother, like son! However, gentle he pretends to be, I can't trust him.
There was too much between them, like a furiously rushing river, rejecting anyone to cross. The death of Matt's mother, the twenty years of loneliness and abandonment Spencer's mother and Nathalia had been used to.
Spencer's question brought a shock to the crowd. "What?! That's horrific." Someone exclaimed.
"Indeed. Is it true? It's terrible."
"Shouldn't the president think it over before handing over the company to his younger son?"
It seems like the two brothers hate each other. It will do no good having them in the company together. The shareholders worried and turned to Curt, but only to find him calm and indifferent.
Everyone frowned yet dared not question Curt as they knew very well that Curt would not be persuaded. He was the king, the ruler, the one that decided.
The humble smile on Matt's face disappeared instantly and was replaced by dismal. Tears filled his eyes. "There must be some misunderstanding, Spencer. My mother never had any bad intentions. She was kind and loving. She never meant to do anyone harm..." Matt defended his mother, helplessly.
Spencer sneered, thinking 'kind and loving,' ha. When she was trying to kill me, she was merciless. He's so good at lying.
"Enough. Matt, I've finally learned what kind of person you are. Why? Don't you want to pretend to be the righteous officer anymore? Huh?" Spencer snapped.

Spencer had been keeping his distance from Matt, leaving him alone. He let him be as long as he stayed away from his territory. However, what Matt said just now had really enraged him. He could not believe his innocence.
Spencer had not expected that Matt would change so suddenly either, from a righteous officer to a liar.
"Spencer, you were the only one there when the incident happened. Of course, you can say whatever you want. I don't believe that's the truth." Matt defended. There was doubt in his words, yet there was more helplessness and grief.
The shareholders watched quietly while thinking, what a mess!
Spencer was rather shocked by Matt's response. "Ha. It looks like I've underestimated you." Just like my father! No wonder.
However, it was obvious that Spencer looked way more aggressive than Matt. By comparison, Matt sounded rather compromising. "Spencer, don't worry. I will never try to steal anything from you. I don't care about inheriting the family property. I've never had the intention in the past years, and I never will. Compared to you, I've been a secret to the world. People point and talk and judge me, and I never said a word."
Everyone had a secret wound that others didn't see. Some hid it well while some showed it. A frown finally replaced the indifferent look on Curt's face.
An individual shareholder noticed and interfered enthusiastically, "Spencer, you and Matt are brothers at the end of the day. Why don't you forgive and forget?"
The others chorused, "Right. You two should forgive and forget, or your father will worry about you."
"Matt has been through a lot. He deserves to be part of the family."
"Shut up!" Spencer snapped furiously. Part of the family?! No way. Spencer glared at the shareholders, who went quiet instantly.

Matt didn't like the way Spencer spoke to others and couldn't help interfering. "Spencer, it's me that you are angry with. They are only trying to help."
The shareholders were used to Spencer's insolence, and all were now surprised and comforted by Matt's consideration.
There was anger in Spencer's eyes, but he managed not to show it; instead, a sneer appeared on his face. "Aren't you clever? Ha. It's a nice move indeed to win the support from the Board. I wonder how long you can last. Let's see."
He was challenging Matt openly. Dad doesn't care about mum and me. Why should I care about him or others?
Matt looked a bit awkward, not knowing how to respond. There was an unspeakable tension in the room. The shareholders looked at one another and remained quiet. I'd better not talk or get involved. They thought.
To everyone's surprise, Curt stood up and said clearly, "It's not a bad idea that you two can have a little competition actually. Matt, don't let me down."
What the hell? Not a bad idea? The shareholders were speechless. Did he actually ask his two sons to compete with each other? Doesn't he worry that they will end up fighting and hurting each other?
"Dad?" Spencer stared at his father in disbelief.
Curt paid him no attention. He turned to one of the shareholders and demanded, "Jerry, from now on, you will be the vice president of E-Net Group."
Jerry understood straight away that Curt was asking him to assist Matt. He glanced at Spencer guiltily. Now I'm stuck. He thought, yet he dared not say no to Curt.
"Alright." He nodded obediently.
Matt felt relieved and smiled gratefully, "Thanks, dad. I won't let you down."
Curt replied with an affirmative look. Then he waved his hand and said, "That's it. Dismiss."
Everyone left in a hurry. No one wanted to get involved in the Davidson's family issue.
Spencer stared at Curt, the man who was his father, yet never really played the role of a father. He was in pain and despair. He's cold and cruel. He never cares about us. I'm nothing but a tool to him. He asks only for obedience from others. He never listens, nor does he see or feel others' pain. He is my father, my father! His mind was spinning fast.
Matt came over with a guilty look. "Spencer, I'm sorry about it. I don't want it, but it's dad's order, and I can't refuse."
"What a good son you are! No wonder he loves you. Ha," Spencer sneered and glanced at him coldly. Then he turned to look at Curt, "Dad, you can do whatever you want, and so can I." There was despair in his tone. Spencer was utterly disappointed, and he gave up the last bit of hope in his father. He's not my father. He's never been a father.
Curt knitted his brows, "What do you mean?" He was displeased.
Spencer stood up, grabbed his suit hanging at the back of the chair, and said, "Whatever you do, you never inform me or respect me. I shall learn from you and do the same to you." There was no more anger. It was cold and distant.
Curt was alert. He finally looked at Spencer and said clearly, "Do you understand what..." However, Spencer paid him no attention. He turned around and walked out of the door.
