The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 244

Spencer rolled his eyes at Jeff impatiently. "You don't have to understand, anyway." Jeff was indeed a good friend. He was capable, talented, loyal, and cared about his friends, though he appeared distant, even arrogant, to strangers.
"She's a tough one, isn't she? I wouldn't want to be close to her. How can you stand...?" Jeff exclaimed, yet before he could finish his words, Spencer slapped him on his head, but luckily he dodged quickly enough.
"Jeff! Stop it. Nathalia and I love each other, and we are and will be happily married forever." Spencer couldn't stand any negative comments about Nathalia.
Jeff wasn't ready to give in yet, "But Spencer, there are plenty of fish in the sea and beautiful ones. You can choose anyone you like. Beautiful models, hot superstars...why the hell did you choose..."
Now Spencer was truly annoyed. He took Nathalia's hand and intended to walk out on Jeff.
"Hey, hey, alright, alright, I apologize. Ok? I apologize." Jeff ran after them, finally realizing that Spencer was angry for real.
Spencer paid him no attention, still enraged, but Nathalia stopped him. She turned around and looked at Jeff with a cheeky smile. "You know what, I think Jeff is jealous. I wonder if he has a crush on my husband."
"Huh?" Spencer exclaimed, shocked.
"Nonsense! I'm straight!" Jeff defended instantly. We are friends. Just friends!
"You don't look nor act straight, though." Nathalia said matter-of-factly, "Grumpy old lady, I don't mind if you are gay or straight, and you can have any man you like, but not my husband."
Jeff's jaw dropped. He stared at Nathalia, too shocked to speak. What?! What kind of logic is that? I'm possibly the straightest person in the world. I love a proper woman, a real woman with a big bum and breasts!

"I'm not gay..." Finally, and slowly, he answered.
This is ridiculous. Spencer thought. "Alright, I will just say it once. I'm serious. I love Nathalia, and we are married. She's the one and only for me." He said it clearly. Jeff nodded, knowing that Spencer was serious.
"Now, Jeff, are you interested in doing business with me?" Spencer changed the subject.
Jeff's face lit upon hearing the word 'business.' "Business? Did you say that? Really?"
Nathalia had expected that Spencer would take action soon, but she didn't expect it to be so soon. I guess his father has really let him down this time.
"Yes or no?" Spencer asked impatiently.
"Yes. Yes. Yes." Jeff replied excitedly, yet he was still doubtful. "But you never like to work with others..." With what the Davidsons Group has got, Spencer doesn't need to worry about money for the rest of his life. He can have anything he wants. Jeff wanted to ask more questions, but seeing the annoyed look on Spencer's face, he changed his mind.
"Alright, what kind of business are you thinking about?"
Spencer had thought it over thoroughly, and he had come prepared. "Petrol." He said briefly.
Petrol? Nathalia looked at Jeff with his Middle-eastern look and understood.
Jeff's eyes glistened with excitement. "Bravo. Bravo." He exclaimed and nodded approvingly.
A few years ago, he had tried every way he could to persuade Spencer to get into the petrol business with him but failed. Now, Spencer had come to him when he least expected.
They spent half a day discussing ways of cooperation, prospects, and details. In the end, both agreed that they each owned 50% of the shares; Spencer would invest, and Jeff would manage.
"Sounds great! I will get the lawyers to write the contract." Jeff exclaimed excitedly. Before long, five renowned lawyers gathered in the office and got the perfect contract ready within fifteen minutes.

Nathalia sneaked into the room next door where shelves of books sat, picked a book, sat by the window, and read. She showed no interest in their business cooperation.
Spencer read the contract, signed and handed it to Jeff. Jeff took it happily, but when he saw the name, he was shocked. "What's this?" It wasn't Spencer's name.
"It's my wife's name," Spencer replied casually, looking out of the window.
"Are you crazy? It's a large amount of money, and you let her have all of it? This means she's the shareholder. You surely understand that." Again, Jeff's jaw dropped, and he exclaimed.
He's not the Spencer I know. Falling for a girl and marrying her! That's beyond comprehension. Now, he's giving her half a company! What the hell? What is he thinking? I just can't understand.
Jeff thought it was Nathalia that changed Spencer. This girl is too smart. She must have done something to him. This is no good. She's controlling him.
"We are married now. It doesn't matter if it's her name or mine. Also, I don't really want to use my name here now." Spencer said matter-of-factly. He understood very well what Nathalia was like. Proud as her, if she knew he was going to sign her name, she would very likely disagree.
Ever since he decided to marry her, he had decided that he would share everything with her, including his fortune and success.
"You've lost your mind, Spencer. I..." Jeff tried to talk Spencer out of it, thinking worriedly that he had lost his sense of love, then suddenly he thought of something and asked, "Wait, did something happened in your family? Something's strange here."
But what could have happened? Spencer is the only heir of the Davidsons. Those dramas about sons fighting for inheritance would not happen in the Davidsons. Also, the only tycoon that could match the Davidson Group is the Morgan family, which rarely makes an appearance. One can't even find out where they are living.
Spencer didn't reply. Now Jeff was even more puzzled. He couldn't believe that he had actually guessed it right.
It took them about two hours to have everything discussed, agreed, and signed. When Nathalia came into the room, it felt like there had been a battle. Both Jeff and Spencer looked defeated and tired. She was curious but didn't ask. Instead, she went towards Spencer and hugged him from behind gently.
It brought a smile to Spencer's face. He felt comforted. The couple felt each other's heartbeat silently and understood each other without saying a word, like a circle, complete and perfect.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
