The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 256

Nathalia took a look at Amy victoriously and noticed that her cheeks had turned red. Didn't you ask for it? Huh.
She then chose a seat within a certain distance from them and sat herself down.
Despite Amy's tremendous effort in dressing herself up, her kind of beauty was nothing compared to Nathalia's. She was terribly embarrassed as if Curt's reply fell on her face like a slap in public. Just as she was about to say something, the door was thrown open.
Spencer rushed in, "Dad, where's Nathalia?! What did you do to her?"
Nathalia quickly jumped up from her seat and went over to comfort Spencer. "It's all good. Honey, don't worry." Spencer heaved a sigh of relief at the sight of Nathalia and embraced her tightly. Nathalia reassured him with a kiss.
"What are these two doing here then? Was it you again?" Spencer glared at Amy, which frightened her, and she shook her head instantly. "It has nothing to do with me. I didn't say anything." She defended quickly and timidly.
In fact, she didn't even expect Nathalia to be there and wondered what Curt was planning. Neither Matt nor Curt intended to help her out or explain anything.
I'm lucky to have my man who cares about me. Nathalia thought to herself.
Matt looked at Spencer, hesitated, and decided to stay quiet.
Curt took a deep breath before he commented calmly, "Too impulsive and short-tempered. Patience. Spencer. Patience."
His calmness enraged Spencer even more. He picked up the pipe on the table and angrily, he said, "Isn't this your favorite pipe, dad? You got it in an auction in Zurich for ten million if I remember correctly. I wonder how it feels to smash it right here and right now!"

This is my son. Curt thought helplessly. Though he felt defeated, he managed not to show it at all. Indifferently, he answered, "Go ahead then. It's not much money anyway."
He had played a clever trick to get Spencer here and had really frightened Spencer. Spencer tried to get hold of Nathalia but had no luck, and on the way, he was imagining all sorts of terrible things happening to Nathalia.
Is this what you can do? To trick me here?! Don't you have better things to do?! Spencer thought furiously.
Just as he was about to throw the pipe, Nathalia grabbed it from his hand. "Spencer, let's not waste. Instead of breaking, why don't we sell it?" She said gently and gave him a cheeky wink.
Her words were like a soothing breeze, sweeping his anger away. "Hmm. That's not a bad idea. Aren't you a clever one?"
Nathalia smiled happily, then turned to Curt, "And if you want it back, we might consider selling it to you and even kindly give you a 10 percent off."
Spencer giggled, and all the anger vanished. Curt rolled his eyes at Nathalia, thinking the same cheekiness.
Matt looked amused, wondering how Nathalia could always sweep the tension away between Spencer and their father.
"What a miser! Do you only think about money? How embarrassing!" Amy commented disdainfully. The Carters have money and fame, why is the daughter such a miser? People should really see what she's like!
Nathalia heard it clearly and retorted casually, "One day, when you have to beg, you will know how valuable money is."
Her indifferent tone enraged Amy more than her words. "I will never have to beg. Huh." Amy snapped, then she turned to Curt for help, "Why is she so mean to me? How are we going to be sisters-in-law?" It seemed she had forgotten her lesson from last time.

Matt looked at his father and frowned. As he expected, Curt had a sip of tea, and slowly he said, "She's younger than you. You should be more tolerant."
Nathalia was rather taken aback by the response and exchanged a puzzled look with Spencer.
"What?! But, she's supposed to be my older sister-in-law, despite our age difference." Amy exclaimed, in disbelief, and thought, And I'm only two years older than her. Only two years! Even if I was much older than her, why do I have to compromise?
"Then respect her." Curt lifted his eyebrows and said calmly.
It was too obvious that Curt was on Nathalia's side. Even Spencer was shocked and puzzled, wondering why. I've never seen Dad so protective of anyone, not even his own son, myself. What's this all about?
Then he suddenly recalled the incident at the graveyard.
It took Amy a little while to understand what Curt said. She was furious yet dared not let her anger explode. "Why are you always on her side?" She tried to sound as calm as possible.
Curt looked as if he was astonished and said matter-of-factly, "Shouldn't I? She's my daughter-in-law."
Does that mean she's part of the family, but I'm not?! Amy was utterly defeated. Why? What's about her that's better than me?!
Matt finally interrupted, "Alright, Amy, calm yourself, please. Dad, is there something you want to tell us?"
Nathalia and Spencer sat down on a comfy sofa, holding each other's hand. "Now, this feels better." She leaned herself back into Spencer's arms and said merrily.
"Can we get some drinks, please? Aren't you thirsty, honey? It's rather warm today, isn't it?" Nathalia looked at Spencer affectionately with a smile. Spencer couldn't help smiling back at her. She always seemed to know how to make him feel better.
Matt took a look at Nathalia and asked for the waiter.
Curt coughed a gentle cough before he said, rather solemnly, "Spencer and Matt, you are my only two sons..."
Immediately, Nathalia put her cup down and questioned, "Are you sure? Who knows when another one will show up?"
I wouldn't be surprised if he had five more kids somewhere, a man like him, huh.
Curt stared at Nathalia speechlessly for a few seconds and said, "I know who my children are."
"Not certainly." Nathalia said matter-of-factly, "Some women don't even know who the child's father is, especially those that have a special profession."
What Nathalia said did make sense, and Curt got the implication behind her words even if Nathalia herself didn't mean it.

The Other - a (man) called Ted
A figure, large and present through time in ways most would not understand. Seemingly uncaring about all except his own principles, the one we refer to as the Other (for legitimate reasons, lest some accidentally call upon his old name), finds his way through life. Though refusing to claim the title himself, this (immortal)'s projects have begun to leave him behind, awaiting some accident to move him back into the world. - - - - - - Initially intended to be a novella, then a project to keep me sane in busy times IRL, this will be considered the roughest of drafts. Also, IRL may prevent me from regular updates after the backlog is done. Tags with a grain of salt, items may be mentioned briefly in story so far, or in chapters already written but not published. Content warnings just in case. Some perspective switching in the first several chapters. Legitimately though, in the first chapters an explanation is provided for referencing to the MC as 'the Other.'
