The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 374

Nate opened his eyes wide and stared at Nathalia, shocked. He was obviously annoyed, but he kept reminding himself to remain calm. If you get angry, you are falling into her trap. Breathe, stay calm. He thought to himself.
Sue rolled her eyes at Nathalia and said sternly, "Alright, Nathalia. Don't be rude." She doesn't know when to stop. This cheeky girl! It won't do us any good to anger the Morgans.
Nathalia pouted her lips and went quiet, but remained her proud look.
Nate managed to calm himself down and said with a smile, "Mrs. Davidson, you see how Nathalia dislikes me. I don't really understand why. I don't think I've disrespected her. Won't you please help explain?" He could tell that Nathalia cared about and respected Sue very much.
Sue replied casually, "Ah, don't worry about it. Pay no attention to what she says. You two won't see each other often anyway." She could sense that there was something strange between the two, especially from Nate's side, though she didn't know what it was.
Nate was a bit surprised by Sue's reply. No wonder she's so proud. Everyone's on her side. He decided to change the topic, knowing that it was pointless to continue.
He picked up the delicate statue he had brought and asked sincerely, "Mrs. Sue Davidson, would you please have a look and see if this is authentic?"
Sue took it, had a feeling, and said without hesitation, "I'm afraid it's fake."
Nathalia opened her eyes wide. She didn't know that Sue knew about antiques.
"But you haven't really looked at it carefully." Nate defended.
There was quite a good collection of antiques at home, and Sue had done some research and read books about it out of curiosity and gradually gained a good sense of judgment.

"I felt it, and I know it's fake. It's very likely a copy made just a few years ago. It looks very close to the original, and whoever made it has done a good job disguising its age. I'm certain it's fake, but you can probably sell it to someone else as authentic, and they won't be able to tell."
Nate put the statue down angrily. Sue picked it up and explained it to him in detail, pointing at the lines and the colors of the paint.
Nathalia found it difficult to follow, and she was more amazed by Sue's knowledge.
"Damn it! It cost me a fortune!" Nate cursed, looking upset. What annoyed him more was the fact that he had been tricked.
"Well, now you know better, and next time you can judge better. Don't get upset." Sue said gently.
Both Nate and Sue were born with a silver spoon in their mouth, and to them, money was never something they would care about much; however, Mia thought differently. She couldn't help wondering how much money Nate had lost on the fake statue.
The two went on talking about collections of antiques for a good while, and Sue showed Nate some antiques around the house.
"Mrs. Sue Davidson, dinner is ready." Zoe came over and said.
"Great. I hope you two are hungry." Sue said to Nate and Mia, and they followed her to the dining room.
Nathalia wasn't sure if Sue did it on purpose and forgot about her. She pouted her lips, feeling disappointed. Huh. Don't get upset, Nathalia! She reminded herself.
Zoe was just worrying about what to say when Nate suddenly turned around and said, "What about Nathalia? Is she not dining with us?"
Sue knitted her brows. She was hesitating.

Nathalia took the chance and came over to Sue, rubbing her tummy, and pleaded, "I'm starving, mum." There was uncertainty, pity, and a bit of fear in her look. Seeing her face, Sue recalled the tearful Nathalia when she was once hurt by the Berry sisters, and she remembered that Nathalia said she would treat her like her own mother. Nathalia had kept her promise. But I didn't. She thought.
Zoe said affectionately, "We have prepared your favorite food. Come." She took Nathalia's hand and led her to the table.
Sue made no comments. Everyone sat down, and Nathalia was in her usual seat. She heaved a sigh of relief as she sat down. Mum didn't refuse. That's a good start. She thought happily.
It was an incredible feast, from starters to main and desserts, and each dish was accompanied with a specific wine, all perfectly prepared and served.
Lately, Nathalia was a bit picky on food and didn't have an appetite for most food, but she had always loved mashed potatoes with baked beans and spicy grilled shrimps. Zoe put the plates in front of Nathalia thoughtfully.
Surprised and delighted, Nathalia smiled happily. "Thanks, Zoe, for preparing my favorite! I haven't had it for a while."
Zoe grinned and said proudly, "It's Mrs. Sue Davidson's idea." Nathalia's face lit up on hearing so. "Aww, thanks, mum."
"I..." Sue was rather taken aback. She had not said anything about the menu tonight but left it to Zoe to take care of. However, seeing Nathalia's happy face, she couldn't deny it. She looked away and said to Nate and Mia, "Bon appetit."
The servants stood behind the guests around the table, all neatly dressed and ready to serve. Each dish was placed on the table elegantly. Mia was amazed by the precision and elegance of the whole process. It was a tradition passed down for generations.
She observed how others were dining and were even more impressed. With a gentle smile, Sue ate quietly and laughed at Nate's jokes now and then, covering her mouth with a napkin. Nate seemed to be used to such occasions. He was completely at ease, enjoying the food while complimenting Sue.
She thought about herself and how she had to learn for years to master such mannerisms. Then she watched Nathalia for a bit and noticed that Nathalia didn't share the same elegance as Sue or Nate, but she was relaxed, confident, and joyful. She felt envious and lowered her head to eat quietly.
Nathalia didn't care much about what Nate was saying but enjoyed the mashed potatoes and spicy shrimps happily. "Zoe, this is so good. Chef Paul's getting better and better!" She grinned at Zoe.

The boy who fell in love with a tree
This is a story about a boy who fell in love with a tree… A story about powerful people changing the rulebook to stack the odds and line their pockets… I aim to create a story that will transport us so we get a glimpse of what that boy felt. The first 4 Chapters might be classified as a prologue depending on how you look at it. The boy quickly grows and the story really starts when the System arrives on Earth. I’m trying to achieve a relatively slow power progression and guide what we learn at a pace following the people in the story. There will be fighting but It’s more focused on base building. The MC is not all-powerful and all-knowing but he has some significant advantages. I’m trying to create a universe that makes sense in its own context. Much of what you will find, are my own world views, in a magnified way, as to make it for interesting fiction. The story took a life of its own when I started to write and I’m really happy with it. Not all of the tags I have marked will immediately be applied. There is stuff planned for far in the future such as the Sci-fi tag. There might be some cursing and gore but it is not very often. -------------- English is not my primary language, so I ask everyone to be forgiving. If you see a glaring error I would appreciate a msg but it is not feasible to fix everything. And if the story offends you, I wish you happiness, reading what you enjoy. ------------- Img link: https://unsplash.com/photos/EwKXn5CapA4
