The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 383

Daniel was surprised that Nathalia would be so frank in front of everyone. He glanced around the crowd with a frown. "He is your brother, after all!"
Zack cooperated smartly and went closer to Nathalia, intending to hold her arm, but Nathalia stepped backward, looking annoyed.
Zack put on a painful and pitiful look as he pleaded, "Nathalia, my sister, all I want is to be fed, to have a place to stay, and to be able to go to school. I'm not asking much, am I?" People looked at him dubiously, noticing his poor attire and skinny figure.
The crowd recalled how arrogant and brutal he used to be and couldn't help thinking about how things could change.
Nathalia ignored Zack but turned to look at Daniel icily. "There's something that I would like to ask Mr. Daniel Brown. You have been very eager to help Zack Carter. I wonder why? What's your intention? What's your motivation?"
Daniel Brown seemed to have come prepared, and he didn't feel threatened by Nathalia's confident questioning this time. He lifted his chest and answered righteously and proudly, "I've told you before that it's justice that I want. I'm not after money or fame, but justice."
Nathalia rolled her eyes at him, tired of his pretentiousness. "Alright, tell me, what's justice? To support someone who once hurt me badly and even killed me so that he can one day hurt me again? Is this what you call justice? I'm afraid I can't agree."
It was what the crowd had expected. They would have done the same, they thought. It's an outrageous request to help someone who has almost killed you. And she's Nathalia Davidson, no one is to mess up with her as she will surely revenge. And she's not just anybody. She's smart and brave, and the Davidsons have her back.

People had also learned from how the Carters and the Berry family ended up that they should never cross Nathalia.
Sensing that the crowd was not being supportive as he had expected, Daniel Brown was rather disappointed and wasn't sure how to react. He suddenly shouted accusingly, "You are unreasonable and very unforgiving. The past is the past. How can you be so mean and not help your brother?!"
"Right, I am mean. Whatever you say, I will not help him." Nathalia wasn't annoyed but found it so ridiculous that she laughed. "You know what, you have been trying so hard to help him, why don't you adopt him, feed him and look after him yourself?"
She didn't care if Zack was related to her if he was her sibling. What she knew was who really loved her, and she would love those back.
Daniel had come prepared, and surely he wasn't to give up so easily. "I have been helping him and treating him like my son, but you are, after all, his real sibling, his family! You are bonded by blood."
Nathalia was tired of his same old excuse. She smiled and looked at Daniel into his eyes. "I do not have a brother." She said slowly and clearly.
Enraged, Daniel retorted furiously, "You are heartless! I wonder what your parents would think of you if they were watching in heaven now. They must be heart-broken to know how merciless you are!"
This time, Nathalia didn't smile. She didn't like him mentioning her mother at all. "Don't you speak to me about my mother? Zack Carter is the son of Frank Carter's mistress, well, one of his many mistresses. It has nothing to do with my mother." She said sternly.
Persistently, Daniel Brown decided to get the crowd involved, "Ladies and gentlemen, what do you think? Don't you think Nathalia Davidson should, and has the responsibility to, look after she won brother?"

The crowd had been murmuring and discussing since the start, and they seemed rather excited to be invited to voice their opinions.
"No way." Some disagreed, while some agreed, "She should!"
"You should change your question to if I should give him all my property." Nathalia mocked.
Funnily, Daniel Brown actually took the chance and said, "Well, that would be for the best! And I'm sure your parents would be very pleased to know."
The crowd opened their eyes wide and stared at Daniel in disbelief. There's definitely something wrong with this guy! Well, he must be out of his mind to show up like this in the very beginning. Curt Davidson is right here watching! And he's very protective of Nathalia Davidson.
This guy is a lunatic.
Nathalia took a deep breath, and it seemed like she was managing to stay calm with effort. "My mother would be ashamed. Daniel Brown, I'm warning you one last time. Don't you ever mention my mother again, or I will have your tongue cut off." Nathalia said coldly, looking at him with disdain.
Daniel was so angry that he was shaking slightly. He pointed the finger at Nathalia and yelled, "What a heartless girl you are! So insolent and rude. You are even threatening me in public." Then he turned to look at Curt and questioned, "Mr. Curt Davidson, it must be awful to have her as your daughter-in-law."
He intentionally got Curt involved, thinking that Curt was the real boss and whatever he said, Nathalia would have to agree. He thought he was clever then.
The crowd was very curious to know Curt's opinion and all looked at him patiently. However, it was Spencer's opinion that mattered the most. Everyone knew that Curt and Spencer had a long history of conflicts, and though Curt was the master of the Davidsons now, Spencer was surely to inherit it in the future.
Curt had been watching quietly. He took a sip of his drink, glanced at Daniel icily, which made Daniel feel threatened, and he started to regret having got Curt involved.
"Nathalia is a sensible girl. She knows what she's doing, and what she's doing is completely reasonable. Zack Carter has got you to look after him anyway. I'm sure he will be fine. Yet, you said you want justice for him, and your intention is simply to help him, how come you won't even get him some decent clothing? What are you doing this show for, Daniel Brown? Why did you come here on such a great occasion to cause this scene? Do you think we, the Davidsons, are to be fooled and humiliated just like that?" His tone grew harsher, and his look colder.
The crowd also started to see that Daniel Brown was acting pretentiously. He was rather shocked to hear what Curt said. Why is he protecting her?! What has she done to deserve everyone's help?!

The Laptop Hero (Portal/Isekai LitRPG)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - April 2022 Silas got summoned to another world—by a group of kids attending magic school who seemed rather unhappy with the results of their ritual. After a brief glimpse of his summoners Silas woke in the town dump. Unable to speak the local language, a misunderstanding escalated and before long Silas wound up in a jail cell, the locals having confiscated all his worldly possessions aside from his laptop, which had formed some strange bond with him. Now he can summon his laptop at will, and he can view his Status, level up, and gain powerful skills and magic as if he were some character in a video game, which is great and everything, but all Silas really wants to do is sit in a dark room and play games on his laptop. Only, life isn't a game, and Silas needs to get his act together because everyone else is playing for keeps. Or does he? Maybe for Silas life is just one big game now, with everyone else stuck playing by his rules. Assorted Disclaimers, in no particular order: I am only posting this on RoyalRoad.com, so if you find my story elsewhere it was not posted by me. Please do let me know! While I do consider this a progression fantasy, and have tagged it as such, Silas's Status improvements will not necessarily proceed in a linear fashion. His RPG stats will have ups and downs, exploits and nerfs, periods of growth and stagnation. Such is the life of a gamer, to be held under the thumb of the all powerful devs, or in this case a certain goddess devoted to the idea of Balance. SIlas himself should learn and grow, improving and progressing in areas where he struggles, or rather, to show such is my goal. The story is told from multiple points of view. While other PoVs will come and go, Silas shall remain the only lead character. The world Silas finds himself on is not a nice place. Expect him to encounter gore and traumatizing content and bad people who do bad things for selfish (or possibly noble) reasons from time to time. Some characters will use profanity, however due to cultural differences the curse words used will differ from those used in our corner of reality, so I'm not including the profanity content warning. Silas himself isn't one for foul language. No explicit sexual content here. This novel is intended for mature readers, however, and will include mature topics, including, but not limited to, sex, violence, death, and taxes. No harem. Might be an eventual romantic interest, possibly even some competitive jealousy, yet as his story begins Silas is too overwhelmed with other concerns to consider long term plans. Musophobics might want to steer clear of this story. Same goes for turophobics. You have been warned. Keep in mind, however, if my other disclaimers didn't make this clear, I only have the faintest of outlines at the moment. This story will take me where it will. My goal with this story is to write it to the end, something of a long-term writing exercise, with the hope others might take an interest in my work and encourage me to keep at it. I've started a number of works before, even finished a few, but this is the first time I've shared any work in a public forum. My temporary cover was made by me, in GIMP using public domain images. If you can do better I'll happily accept your submission and give credit for your work here!

Cosmic Plague
In this world, everyone is cursed with a single fate: Become the most powerful. But those who do become powerful, they hate it. Power is misery and death is the solace. လလလ Nazar, a weapon of mass destruction created by the ancient God of Destruction revolted against his creator a long time ago. While he did defeat his creator, the power he was given is still within him. He is cursed with infinite power, standing at the top of the celestial hierarchy. He has more power and wealth than he needs. But even then, he craves one thing; death. He wants to die. Power is misery and death is the solace, but he cannot achieve his only goal. He cannot die. Perhaps that will change when one day, an ancient cosmic Goddess rises from her grave? Perhaps she will finally kill him? Or will she fall short before his awesome yet terrible power? Only time will tell. This is a high cosmic story about the hypocritical life of the protagonist and how it affects everyone (and everything) around him. Naturally, it features very overpowered characters with a lot of high stakes battles roaming across the cosmos. Warning: Swearing, some suggestive sexual gestures/words, gore. Feedback is highly welcomed. (The story was originally named, God's Return, but I wanted to change it.)
