King's building.
"Come on, Mary. This is the best party I can think of that's happening on Wall Street in recent years. Be happy! Mr. Manuel must really like the wine you gave him."
Mabel said cheerfully.
Mary, on the other hand, strongly felt that she was out of place at this party.
Mabel had come to Mary's house this afternoon, hoping to get another bottle of that superb red wine, because Horatio had promised to introduce a big shot to her.
The man was very fond of red wine, and if he could get his hands on another bottle of the works of master winemaker Andre, he would definitely give preferential treatment to Martin and Mabel.
Mabel said that Horatio had invited her to a reception this evening, and mentioned that it was a big reception on Wall Street. Furthermore, the boss of Belland's company would also be there.
Mary's heart jumped at the news.
Mabel saw her hesitation and immediately offered to bring Mary to the party if she would sponsor a bottle of red wine.
Mary agreed.
She didn't know what she was looking for.
The truth?
Mary hadn't been to a fancy party since she graduated from college, and she had outgrown many of the fancy dresses she used to wear in college.
What she was wearing now was the dress she had worn at a Preston Elementary School party last year. It was dark pink, with lace, echoing the theme of the party last year.
Mabel's exaggerated praise had convinced Mary that there was nothing wrong with it, so she had worn it.
But when she entered the hall of the party, Mary found herself terribly out of place.
Everyone was dressed in elegant evening gowns, with wide shoulders and narrow waist, looking modest yet undoubtedly luxurious. The only exception was Mary, with her exaggerated dark pink tutu and her cheap white high heels.

Because of her beautiful face, many women couldn't help but stare at the awkward get-up, with a mocking look in their eyes.
Mary felt like a clown who had wandered unknowingly into a high-class party.
"Look, that's the leader of the Belland Company. I met him at a dinner party, Galen Boswell!"
Just as Mary was about to leave, Mabel pointed at a middle-aged man in a suit and tie not far away.
Mary looked over.
Mabel said, "Hey, I see Martin and Horatio. That must be the famous Mr. Manuel right next to them... Mary! Mary!"
As she turned, she found that Mary was already walking briskly toward Galen Boswell.
Mabel caught up to her, asking, "What are you doing?"
Mary said as she walked, "I want to say hello to Mr. Boswell. I'll be right back."
Mabel stopped and said, "I'll wait for you where Martin is!" Then she turned around and headed towards Martin and the others.
Mary had noticed that Mabel had not broken up with Martin as promised, but she was not in the mood to care about that now.
Because, she saw a familiar figure.
In fact, Mary's intent was not to say hello to Mr. Boswell.
--
"Belland!"
The woman was dressed in a snow-white silk evening dress that accentuated her graceful figure, with half of her beautiful shoulders revealed. Under her feet was a pair of luxurious high heels, accented with silver-white diamonds that would never go out of fashion.
The woman slowly walked over and tucked her snow-white arms into Belland's arms.
She held Belland's arm and smiled happily and gently. "It's really hard to see you. Aunt Charlotte said that you asked me to come over today. Is there a reason?"
Belland turned around and looked at the woman smiling beside him. However, he did not reject her, letting her hold onto his arm like a male companion. "Miss Lipton, long time no see."
"Call me Eunice. You used to call me that," Eunice glared at Belland with a sorrowful gaze. "You're my fiancé."
