The Rise of the White Lotus Chapter 319 – Miss Yang, don't you like my grandson?

The word ‘Grandpa’ that personally came out from Edward Lu’s mouth caused a moment of airless silence as none dared to break the ice… well, it was perhaps nothing to break as Edward Lu heartily laughed after that. Alas, the woman who he asked to address him so dearly didn’t have a change on her poker face upon seeing the old man’s figure.

Lexi’s aura turned colder just when she sensed Edward Lu’s presence and the heated hall drastically turned chiller when her eyes laid on him. Ethan Lu who knew Lexi very well could not help but let out a heavy sigh. He knew that Lexi must have hidden a grudge towards his grandfather for what he had done earlier… on second thought, Ethan Lu suddenly froze as he was reminded that he supported his grandfather earlier.

Glancing at the inexpressive side profile of his dearest sunshine, Ethan Lu subconsciously swallowed a mouthful of saliva. Still, whatever fear that had struck him for a moment, he still managed to smile and shifted his gaze to his grandfather.

“Grandpa, why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to accompany our respective guests?” Slightly tilting his head to the side, Ethan Lu inquired. Well, the private meeting they were having wasn’t done yet. He just went out with the excuse that ‘something came up’ but promised he’ll be back in a bit. Hence, taking that as an opportunity, Ethan Lu headed into this function hall to check if Lexi had arrived which she didn’t disappoint him, fortunately.

“Huh? I still need to matchmake you, so, I am here!” In a matter of fact tone, Edward Lu responded with a shrug. He then turned to Lexi’s unchanging front before a large grin plastered across his entire face.

‘Tsk, this woman! She’s still mad about earlier! Can’t she at least not show it?!’ Yet, inside Edward Lu’s mind, he was already dissing Lexi at how hard to appease his future granddaughter-in-law was. Well, it was not like he didn’t like it but the opposite. This was one thing he already liked about Lexi because she was rather fierce, even more than he expected and would do well as the future family matriarch. Furthermore, she never, not even once tried to curry favor from him and by the looks of it, she didn’t plan to do that either.

“Miss Yang, don’t you like my grandson?”

“Grandpa! What nonsense! My goddess is not available, can’t you see?!” Suddenly, the frustrated Evelyn Lu who was rather fast to recover by this turn of events spouted with an aggressive tune.

“Not available?” Knitting his brows upon hearing his most adorable but most of the time stupid granddaughter, Edward Lu frowned as he moved his gaze to Evelyn Lu’s prideful countenance.

“Evelyn, stop saying nonsense. Accompany Grandpa for a while— our guests might think you are another Miss Du here. Don’t shame our family for being compared to the righteous Du family.” Irked while his brows kept on twitching every time his cousin opened her mouth, Ethan Lu indirectly scooted the two away. Why were they here in the first place? His grandfather, stealing Lexi’s attention from him and his damn cousin spouting nonsense!

Upon hearing Ethan Lu’s clear sarcasm towards Stella Du and the whole clan of the Du family, Edward Lu furrowed his brows. After all, he missed what happened before he came back to this function hall. Hence, Edward Lu missed how Stella Du mercilessly slandered his future granddaughter-in-law. If only he heard it with his own ears, Edward Lu would surely not be as kind as Evelyn Lu. Perhaps, she would even cheer him on the side and ‘boo-ed’ Stella Du.

When Stella Du heard the shaming comparison, she froze in an instant as she tactlessly stared at the dashing Ethan Lu. After he coldly glanced at her earlier, Ethan Lu didn’t glance at her again as if he was dismayed that he even bothered to look at her.

Humiliation… overwhelming shame came rushing inside her as Stella Du traveled her eyes to the people around who were sneering for this indignation while others were still under shock while altering their gaze to Ethan Lu, then to Edward Lu, to Evelyn Lu who was known as another Lu family member and then to Lexi who remained silent and elegant as if nothing could faze her at the moment.

“Ah, right! Our friends were waiting for me. Ethan, please come with Miss Yang in our little gathering.” With that said note, Edward Lu nonchalantly noted to his grandson before he began taking his leave. Well, even though he was treated by a cold shoulder by Lexi, he would make it up to her next time as their little meeting next to this function hall was still on-going.

When they heard the clear invitation from Edward Lu as if he had already made up his mind for the spouse of the master of the Lu family, they could only watch his elderly retreating back along with his company who were as shocked as they were internally.

The women’s hearts who were eyeing to be chosen to be Ethan Lu’s prospect bride sank, especially, Laurel Wang who was confidently silent about being the best candidate. After all, their Wang family already became good friends with the Lu’s and some members spouted their approval of her. Moreover, she believed that she made a good impression on Ethan Lu as he didn’t treat her the same way like the rest of the ladies present.

‘No, Ethan— he should be… mine.’ Still speechless, Laurel Yang could only whisper her delusion inside her mind as she was unable to move. All she could do was stare at Ethan Lu’s side profile as he lightly shook his head and returned his gaze to Lexi that instantly turned gentle and loving.

Meanwhile, after being reminded that his dear friend Elliot Gong was still there, Ethan Lu turned his head towards his direction and smiled. “Thanks, man.” He then offered his fist for a fistbump which Elliot Gong accepted as his fist lightly tapped against Ethan Lu’s knuckles.

‘Yeah, yeah, good thinking.’ Elliot Gong muttered inwardly as he knew what was his friend was doing— giving Lexi and Elliot Gong a nice escape by making it appear as if Elliot Gong was just looking after his friend’s girlfriend when the news broke out after this night.
