Fortunately, Ethan Lu’s senses were sharpened; hence, he was able to move his arm to block Edward Lu’s sudden assault. Even so, all he could do was block the series of attacks by the cane of his grandfather.

“Aw! Ouch—! What— ah!” Ethan Lu spat after every beating he received from his crazy grandfather.

“How dare you brat! Did I raised you like this, ha?! How could you make my precious granddaughter wait for so long!” Aside from his displeasure by Ethan Lu’s abrupt interruption in his date with Lexi, Edward Lu was more displeased by his grandson’s snail-paced proposal and marriage. Moreover, although he successfully i.m.p.r.e.g.n.a.t.ed Lexi, just what would others say if she was pregnant out of wedlock?

That alone made him aggravated as his grandson seemed to take his beloved granddaughter for granted. Therefore, upon laying his eyes on him, Edward Lu was reminded to apprehend Ethan Lu for his thoughtlessness. If one didn’t know, they would think that Edward Lu’s biological kin was Lexi and not Ethan Lu.

On the other hand, Lexi could only shake her head sideways as she heaved a heavy sigh. She knew she wouldn’t be able to stop the old man Lu as he beat his grandson… or rather, a part of her didn’t want to stop Edward Lu from showing his affection and his unconventional way of congratulating the expectant father of her child.

Furthermore, she agreed that Ethan Lu indeed needed a beating for not proposing to her sooner. Does she need to say she’s pregnant first for him to propose? Alas, deep down, Lexi wanted his proposal first before letting him know about her pregnancy.

‘It wouldn’t happen that soon, I guess.’ Lexi thought inwardly while watching the grandfather / grandson duo exchange unpleasant remarks about Edward Lu finding his own scapegoat for what he had done and Ethan Lu for not proposing to her even after being together for quite some time now.

She wished to hear him ask ‘will you marry me?’ before informing him about her pregnancy, alas, her baby bump would soon become more apparent as her tummy had started growing. It wasn’t that big now, just a small bump that would only cause one to think she was bloated or anything of the sort. Still, if she won’t say it today, Ethan Lu would surely find out.

‘Well, it doesn’t matter, I guess.’ Lexi muttered internally as she let out a faint chuckle and continued to watch their intense battle.

Ethan Lu and his grandfather bantered for a long time before all the life energy Edward Lu was left with had drained out of his body. Therefore, after he was done currying favor from Lexi to settle in her good graces, the two lovebirds finally bid their farewell.

“Grandpa, thank you for today.” Bowing her head to show her respect to Edward Lu who still insisted to personally send them off, Lexi gave her sincerest thanks to the old man. All the misunderstanding they had completely vanished and Edward Lu’s operation “get in her good graces” was accomplished.

“Hehe, my child, you should visit me more often or I should frequently drop by!”

“Tch,” Clicking his tongue in annoyance, Ethan Lu murmured. “Drop by and make an epic mistake again.”

“I will try to visit you more often and spend a day with you.” As courteous as she could, Lexi faintly chuckled as she responded. Both of them chose to ignore Ethan Lu’s sly comments on the side as if he was just a child who was throwing a tantrum.

After exchanging more pleasantries with Edward Lu, Lexi was assisted by Ethan Lu with his hand that was gently lying on her back. Turning towards the gorgeous and content front of his beloved sunshine, Ethan Lu meekly smiled and whispered,

“Love, I will catch up with you, okay?”

“I knew you’d say that. Don’t worry, take your time.” Casting him a side glance, Lexi gently smiled because part of her expected that he would say that. After all, Ethan Lu and Edward Lu didn’t have enough time to talk with each other. Thus, Lexi resumed her careful strides towards their car with Lyrick Jiang behind her.

Meanwhile, as Ethan Lu stared at Lexi’s retreating back until she entered the car that was parked in front of the stairs before the entrance of the Lu mansion, he turned around to Edward Lu who was standing in front of the main door while waving his hands to Lexi.

“Grandpa,”

“Ehh?! Now I understand why my view with my granddaughter seemed to beautify because you’re still here!” In an instant, Edward Lu’s sarcasm was the first thing to come out from his mouth as he turned to Ethan Lu’s direction. His brows arched as he thrusted his chin forward as if preparing himself for another battle of words with him.

Upon hearing his grandfather’s remarks, the side of Ethan Lu’s lips could not help but twitch. Yet, he chose to ignore it along with his deep exhale. “Thank you,” in a soft and low tone, Ethan Lu expressed his gratitude for his grandfather’s efforts.

Given that he was utterly displeased for that ‘mistake’ that still irked him, he could not demerit Edward Lu for his efforts in guiding Lexi about the extremities of their family. Therefore, he wanted to thank him for his efforts and help.

“Hah! I thought you’d grown so ungrateful!” Still bearing the same arrogant tone, Edward Lu scoffed. He didn’t want to get emotional in front of Ethan Lu, therefore, a sly grin formed on the corner of his lips. “Well, even if you’re arrogant, you still can’t be because my dearest granddaughter told me something you don’t know~!” With that said note, Edward Lu turned around while laughing evilly to vex his grandson more.

As Edward Lu entered the manor, his gleeful evil laughs subsided as his front turned gentle with a subtle smile plastered across his lips. “I think I’m really old… I’ve started to get more emotional.”

“Master, young master has grown into an admirable man. You have to think about your health and rest more.” Behind Edward Lu, the old butler who welcomed Lexi and Ethan Lu earlier worriedly responded as he had watched the once terrifying man also grow so old.
