The Great Thief Chapter 1379 – Professional Players Coming Out
Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
Kick!
The player who had been attacked by Lu Li didn’t get any time to finish his curse. There was a flash of regret on his face. He probably felt like he didn’t want to stand to fight back, because he would drop some equipment.
After killing the last player, he jumped into the bushes with everyone else.
He had to regenerate his HP as he didn’t know how strong his new enemies would be, and it was likely to be a bloody battle.
He had been listening to everyone in the chat room, and knew that the battle in Grey Valley was now in full swing. Only the Stonetalon Mountains continued to operate as per usual. The main reason for that was because they were venture capitalists. The Prince Goblin’s dignity was inviolable, and the players were not ready to go to war with an NPC.
Several players soon appeared in his field of vision.
The one who was leading them did not hide his identity. His face was completely visible to Lu Li, which made Lu Li a little angry because he knew this person.
This person was wearing high orange leather boots, which were a part of a T1 set. The fact that this person was able to acquire parts of a T1 set demonstrated their affluence, but also confirmed the identity of this player – it was Torrent.
Torrent was a Troll, and although it was difficult to judge someone’s appearances in game, he was quite handsome, even for a Troll.
For such a handsome Troll to be wearing T1 equipment convinced Lu Li that he had no made a mistake. After all, he had fought several matches against this player, but he didn’t understand why this player would appear here. Did Gale Legion intend to fight Ruling Sword?

“Come out, come out and fight!”
He had two players by his side – a Warrior and a Paladin. Lu Li couldn’t check if there was a Thief sneaking around as well, but he kept his eye on Torrent as he spoke.
“I will lure them in. Wait for me,” Lu Li whispered quietly to the people around him.
He had no choice. The players that had come were very strong. Lu Li wasn’t afraid of them, but if there were other professional players working with them, then he wouldn’t be able to kill Torrent. He would have to run away.
The current situation in Grey Valley was a mess.
Lu Li quietly moved and started to stand up.
“Haha, I knew it was it,” Torrent said with a smile. He had a long green bow in his hand, but after seeing Lu Li, he actually put the bow away. He clearly had no intentions of fighting right away.
“What do you want?” Lu Li asked slowly.
“I’m just having some fun. Where are your friends? I couldn’t believe it when I heard that you actually transported to Grey Valley,” Torrent said as he looked at his surrounds. He could only see some leaves being blown in the wind and a stone cart in the middle of the road. There was no one else around.
In addition, there were the several bodies that had not been removed by the System.
“They’ve gone home,” Lu Li said.
Torrent wasn’t convinced.
“Well, I guess you’ll have to deal with the three of us yourself…”
“Four of you…” Lu Li corrected as he turned sharply and slammed his dagger into an invisible target. The Thief was reveaedl and Lu Li had stabbed his face with a very high Skill Completion Gouge.

Torrent couldn’t help but smile.
“Who are you representing this time? Glory Capital or Gale Legion or both?”
Lu Li wasn’t in a rush to attack; the Thief behind him wasn’t that threatening.
“Right now, I am just representing myself,” Torrent said as he shook his head, “Or at least, I didn’t receive an order to do this.
Lu Li was silent. He didn’t fully believe Torrent’s words, but they made sense. Neither Glory Capital nor Gale Legion had declared war on them.
“Well, how about we have a duel? If you win, you can send the players with you home.”
Torrent obviously knew about Lu Li’s companions. They had a Thief too. Even though he had been hit with a Gouge, he could still see.
“One on one?” Lu Li laughed.
Torrent had defeated him in a match before, but that was part of a bigger competition. He had defeated Lu Li very difficult conditions.
“Well, given who you are, a one-on-one would be too easy,” Torrent said as he thought carefully. He wasn’t the kind of person who wanted to prove himself to Lu Li. His goal here was simple. He had to stall Lu Li for long enough so that the others could arrive to kill him.
“Haha, maybe you just want us all to fight. When did Gale Legion stoop to this level?” Lu Li questioned as he waved Felstriker around, then continued, “You don’t dare to challenge me, because you will die in my hands, but if you don’t dare to challenge players in a one-on-one, then you’ll never be a great player…”
Lu Li’s words were vicious.
Some of Torrent’s friends seemed stunned. Lu Li was pointing out something that affected Torrent’s career.
There was never any professional player that just focused on their abilities. One essential quality of a professional player was self-confidence, which was particularly important for a newcomer like Torrent. As such, Lu Li’s words were like a dagger that plunged deeply into him.
It was true. If he didn’t dare to take on a fair one on one, what chance did he have?
“Okay, let’s have a one-on-one then. You can rest assured that the people I brought won’t attack.”
Torrent had chosen his words carefully. Just because the three players around him wouldn’t attack didn’t mean that the others that were coming wouldn’t.
Killing Lu Li was something that yielded a great sense of accomplishment and also a rich reward.
Lu Li privately told the players with him to go.
“You guys leave first.”
“Boss we don’t want to leave. We won’t die and we have confidence in you.”
The others obviously didn’t want to desert their spiritual leader.
“Your confidence is meaningless; he obviously has more people coming. This place will be crowded soon.”
Lu Li knew exactly what was happening. Torrent’s promise was obviously full of loopholes. After all, Lu Li had grown up in an environment where nothing was off the table. The people in the Common District had done even more shameless things in order to survive.

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.

Mana Soul
Like many others across the multiverse, Markus was chosen as this world's hero to fight against the steadily approaching cataclysm. Only, something went horribly wrong. Left with only a handful of memories, Markus has spent years clawing his way up from poverty and officially registered as an adventurer to try and make his fortune. Unfortunately, Artificers are the least combat-capable class of the four classes, and Markus has no connections to join an established party. With the fate of countless worlds hanging in the balance, a chance meeting will determine the course of a war nearly as old as reality itself. Warning: Markus has trauma induced amnesia and will occasionally 'act out of character' or make 'poorly thought out' decisions. These events are rather obvously telegraphed abd represent conflicts between his current personality and the one repressed alongside his trauma. Just something to bear in mind. The story will bounce predominantly back and forth between the primary protagonists every couple of chapters. The time stream is linear, so events are not revisted/rehashed/retold through the narrative format. Characters may comment on something that has occurred, but that's different. Just giving a heads up.Chapters will be around 7-9k and updated 1/week on the same schedule as my other story Ogre Tyrant over the weekend.[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
