Chapter 395: Ideal Warrior. A Heavenly Demon’s Sacrifice

Zhang Che realized his father-in-law was very supportive. Not long after ending their call, an officer came looking for him and brought him onto a transportation plane loaded with demon corpses, that was returning to Bei Du.
Bidding farewell to his squadmates, Li Xin and the others had unwilling looks on their faces.
They had originally thought that they could continue working together under this captain. In the end, he was returning to Bei Du so soon, while they had to continue guarding here for a period of time, until the military was done building the defenses up.
Li Xin mustered her courage and asked Zhang Che for his contact. Afterwards, the other squad members also asked for his personal terminal number, promising to get together in Bei Du in the future when they had the time.
After all, they were squadmates who fought by one another’s side. This friendship was much deeper than acquaintances you knew for decades.
——-
When Zhang Che returned to Bei Du’s military district, Huang Juyun was waiting for him outside the airbase.
“Among the invasion points closest to Hua Xia, there’s one each in the northwest and southwest. Both of them are on Hua Xia soil. However, the battle for the one in northwest started yesterday. It should be nearing the end now.
“At the one in the southwest, on the other hand, the nearby exotic beasts were too strong. As a result, we have yet to take any actions. We’ll see how it goes after some time.
“If you want to continue hunting demons, I suggest you go to the Bao Island in the east. There’s an invasion point in the middle of the archipelago nearby. At present, our army has already arranged for large amounts of manpower to prepare to clear the area. You can still make it if you go now.”
After Huang Juyun analyzed the invasion points within Hua Xia for Zhang Che, he continued, “Of course, there are many more locations across the globe, but due to the complications of the factions around, some time is needed to organize a strong beastmaster army. You can go to those places as well when the time comes, but you’ll have to be careful of your own safety.”
Huang Juyun had basically guessed that Zhang Che must have obtained some unknown benefits when killing demonic creatures. Otherwise, why would he be so concerned about this? Since it was the case, he was happy to help Zhang Che by getting all this information.
When Zhang Che heard all that, he felt overjoyed. -Doesn’t this mean that I’ll have many opportunities to hunt the demonic creatures? With this, the golden vortex will surely absorb enough of that mysterious energy and undergo a qualitative change. My range of control over the scarlet sword will become wider, and faster!-
As for whether the Umbra Wind God Leopard would get sufficient life energy from the demonic creatures and grow past infancy to a stronger stage, Zhang Che wasn’t confident of it. He could only see how it went.

However, there were so many invasion points across the globe! As long as he worked hard and tried to kill as many of the stronger demonic beasts as possible, it shouldn’t be a problem to get the Umbra Wind God Leopard to mid-tier epic-quality. Perhaps he could go even higher?
“Thank you, Uncle Huang! I’ll go to the Bao Island first, then! We’ll talk about the others after that. Oh, right, Uncle Huang, can I participate as an individual? After all, I want to hunt as many demonic creatures as possible. If I have a squad with me, it’ll restrict me somewhat.”
“Alright, I’ll talk to the commander in charge of the operation at Bao Island. It won’t be a problem as long as you don’t affect their encirclement plans,” Huang Juyun replied with a nod.
He was even more sure that this kid must have obtained huge benefits after killing the demonic creatures. Why would he be so passionate about this otherwise?
However, it was even better this way. As long as Zhang Che quickly grew stronger, his family’s status would also solidify. Perhaps they might even rise up to the next level as a result!
Rushing for time, Zhang Che went all in, too. Through the Huang family’s connections, he spent five thousand purple crystal points and reserved a sky shuttle at Bei Du airport for himself to fly straight to the archipelago near Bao Island.
Given Zhang Che’s wealth of over three hundred million purple crystal points, spending a few thousand couldn’t even be considered a drop in the bucket at this time. Compared to the huge benefits he would soon receive, Zhang Che wouldn’t flinch if he had to spend tens of thousands of purple crystal points!
——
About noon, the flight Zhang Che had reserved arrived at the skies above his destination.
When Zhang Che directly jumped out of the flight cabin from ten thousand meters in the air and descended atop the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon, the battle on the archipelago was already in an intense state.
The area was surrounded by the sea. The land and aerial exotic beasts weren’t very strong, while the terrifyingly powerful water exotic beasts couldn’t leave the water for too long. So, the beastmaster army organized by the military cleaned up the exotic beasts in this area very easily, and engaged in battle with the demonic army.
Seeing Zhang Che falling from the sky and the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon catching his fall immediately after, the military officer who was informed about it couldn’t help but draw his lips back into a smile.
-What a model warrior this fellow is! He had just participated in the battle in the north, and he immediately came to the east on a sky shuttle! From the looks of it, it was a reserved flight? What a guy!-
Although it wasn’t too much for anyone present to reserve a sky shuttle for themselves, a few thousand purple crystal points was not a small sum, either!
A three-star gold-quality beast card was only worth a thousand purple crystal points at the most!

Naturally Zhang Che didn’t know that he had already become a figure like Lei Feng in those beastmasters’ hearts. While in the sky, he could clearly observe where the higher-level demonic beasts were gathered within the demonic army, and he quickly ordered the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to rush toward them.
In any case, since the demonic army was under some unknown restraint, there weren’t any overly powerful individuals present there. Zhang Che really wasn’t afraid of encountering any danger.
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s quick descent alarmed the demonic army below. A huge group of black-winged demonic creatures immediately rose to the skies, engaging him head on as a pack.
Zhang Che looked at them in disdain. -They’re looking down on me too much, aren’t they? I’ll kill however many of these cannon fodder come my way! I don’t even need my subdued beasts and pets, just me alone will suffice!-
If the demonic army below had known what Zhang Che was thinking, surely they’d vomit blood in anger.
-If it wasn’t for the restriction set in the spatial tunnels, the powerful warriors in our demonic army would easily smack a bunch of weaklings like you to death with a casual slap!-
When the pack of black-winged demonic soldiers came flying within a hundred and fifty meter radius of Zhang Che, a scarlet light immediately shot out from his brow and swept around him like lightning.
In the next moment, a rain of demonic soldiers fell from the sky.
Seeing the bad situation ahead, the demonic soldiers in the back immediately turned around and fled back to the demonic army. They wouldn’t continue sending cannon fodder Zhang Che’s way mindlessly.
“It’s useless even if you turn back. I’m destined to massacre you lot today!”
Zhang Che narrowed his eyes slightly. He was now wearing the six-star legend-quality Purple-Gold Demonic Armored Worm armor, and the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon underneath him was bringing out his fastest speed. In just a few breaths’ time, they were in the skies above the demonic army below.
With a loud bang, a rainbow light transformed into the Earthen Rock Demon and landed heavily on the ground. A large number of demonic soldiers were caught unprepared and were stomped into meat paste.
“Shit, what’s that subdued beast? It’s too strong!” The beastmasters surrounding the demonic army couldn’t help but jump up in shock when they saw the Earthen Rock Demon appearing all of a sudden.
It was a freaking giant stone man standing a few dozens meters tall, and was epic-quality, to boot! It was as cool as could be!
It was the first time in the lives of the majority of the thousands of beastmasters present that they had seen an epic-quality subdued beast.
After their shock died down, they immediately cheered out loud.
With an ideal warrior like Zhang Che, someone who owned a bunch of powerful subdued beasts joining them, the battle would surely become much easier. At the very least, there would be far fewer injuries or casualties among their subdued beasts. How much money would be saved!?
Obviously, just the Earthen Rock Demon appearing wouldn’t properly demonstrate how powerful Zhang Che was.
When the Earthen Rock Demon had properly hammered a nail into the demonic army, Zhang Che then summoned out the rest of his legend-quality subdued beasts and pets. They spread out in a circle and started massacred their way out.
If they didn’t strive to kill as many of them as possible now, it would be very bad news for Zhang Che if the demonic army realized the bad situation they were in and retreated!
———
In the demon world, the densely packed demonic soldiers and beasts that dotted the surroundings had started to scatter in all directions.
At the same time, large amounts of defeated soldiers were retreating from a few of the hundred and eight black tunnels in the air.
Those few tunnels were all connected to the areas closest to the strongest regions in Mercury, and had all suffered fierce attacks from the various militaries, leaving them no choice but to withdraw due to heavy casualties.
Not only that, the demonic army had only managed to kill a handful of beastmasters across those few locations. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that humanity’s beastmaster army had obtained a complete victory!
After all, even if they lost many subdued beasts, as long as the beastmasters themselves remained largely intact, it would be very easy for them to replenish their fighting force.
The absolute powers of the demonic world had paid a heavy price for the sake of this invasion, and they had even made thorough preparations for it. Who would’ve thought the results would turn out with such a strong start, but such a weak ending?
On the platform at the top of the enormous mountain, the upper echelon of the demons were all silent, their complexions extremely black.
After who-knew-how-long, a flash of determination suddenly shone in the eyes of one of the strongest demons, one with a phantom-like figure. It said something to the others out loud, and a mass of great power suddenly erupted.
“Kuluokabasa!”
Seeing this great demon’s action, the nearby demons’ demeanors suddenly changed. Every one of them quickly cried out loud, wanting to stop it.
However, it was already too late.
As that energy erupted, the phantom-like demon’s body suddenly exploded and turned into a hundred blurry lights, drifting into each spatial tunnel. The remaining great demons’ eyes gaped, feeling very worried inside as they watched the blurry lights fly into every spatial tunnel.
After a short while, the restriction in the spatial tunnel didn’t activate, and the hundred blurry lights disappeared from their senses.
“@#¥%&*&%!”, the great demons roared in excitement when they saw those blurry lights successfully passing through the spatial tunnel. They seemed to have glimpsed a ray of hope!

But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here
