Chapter 480: Immovable Spiritual Herb
Edited by Aelryinth
Before Zhang Che started investigating the area, he wanted to confirm if those puppet-animals were really unable to rush out of the stone platform.
As such, he had the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon return and fly above the stone platform once more. As he had expected, countless masses of green light suddenly appeared around him and turned into all kinds of animals, flying at them.
“Retreat!” Zhang Che hurriedly cried out. The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon quickly retreated out of the stone platform’s perimeters. As they flew away, the animals were like a lamp with its power turned off, quickly fading away.
“Nice!” Zhang Che smiled, rubbing his hands, relaxing.
After confirming those puppet-animals couldn’t rush out, he could go search for spiritual herbs at the nearby mountains without worry.
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon turned back, and at Zhang Che’s orders, directly flew towards a majestic mountain to their left.
The mountain was very close to that huge stone platform. The foot of the mountain was covered in fog, only some creeks visible from time to time.
Naturally Zhang Che wouldn’t be interested in the creeks. He directly flew towards the top of the mountain’s waist on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon. The distribution of spiritual force in these lands was clearly denser the higher it was. If any spiritual herbs were growing, they would only be at higher places.
“Hopefully the animals on these mountain peaks aren’t too strong…”
Based on their earlier encounters, Zhang Che could predict that the mountain peaks near the stone platform would surely have those endless animals as well, although he didn’t know their strength.
Indeed, just as the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon flew above the mountain waist, countless animals came out of the foggy forest below to surround them.
-Damn it, this secret world is really unfriendly!- Zhang Che cursed inside. He didn’t summon his subdued beasts or pets to help him. Instead, he directly brought out the scarlet and white sword, and swept it around him.

A wave of noises rang out. A large group of animals were directly decapitated by the scarlet and white sword, fresh blood spurting everywhere.
However, before the fresh blood could hit the ground, the animals’ corpses, together with the blood, all turned into pure spiritual qi and scattered into the air.
“As expected, it’s also like that here…” Zhang Che furrowed his brow slightly. He summoned out all his legend-quality and higher babies and had them fend off the endless tide of animals. Afterwards, he summoned the frisky monkey and ordered it to search and see if there were any spiritual herbs around.
The moment the frisky monkey was out, he cried out excitedly and pointed everywhere, saying, “Baba, spiritual herb, many, spiritual herb, many!”
The frisky monkey was really excited. Not only did he sense countless spiritual herbs around him, he also sensed the aura of some spiritual fruits. His eyes immediately shone with greed.
Zhang Che was also incredibly excited when he saw the frisky monkey’s reaction. He stared at the monkey’s eyes, asking for confirmation. “Really? There are a lot of spiritual herbs?”
“Many, many!” The frisky monkey nodded profusely. In the next moment, he directly disappeared from Zhang Che’s sight, zipping over to a tree a few meters away and reached out to grab at a weird-looking grass.
“Damn, are the spiritual herbs so plentiful in this world to THAT extent?” Zhang Che felt as if a huge pie had fallen from the sky, feeling a little dizzy.
This time, even if there weren’t any other gains, he’d gain plenty just by gathering a mountain of spiritual herbs!
However, Zhang Che’s excited look froze in the next moment.
The frisky monkey grabbed at the grass and pulled on it hard. The spiritual grass directly snapped from the ground. Afterwards, the stalk of spiritual grass held in the frisky monkey’s palm directly turned into a streak of light and dissipated, just like that endless wave of animals.

“…” The frisky monkey stared wide-eyed. He turned to look at Zhang Che, looking confused. He seemed to be saying, -It’s really not my fault!-
Zhang Che was upset! It wasn’t only those animals who would turn into spiritual qi and dissipate after their deaths. It turned out that even the spiritual herbs were unable to leave the ground!
-Could it be that the world I am seeing right now isn’t actually the real appearance of the secret world, but that I have accidentally fallen into an illusion?
-Impossible! There must be something I haven’t discovered here!-
Zhang Che’s gaze shifted downwards to the frisky monkey’s feet. He saw the stalk of snapped grass on the ground had actually started to absorb the thick spiritual force in the surroundings and was slowly regrowing.
Although it would surely take more than a couple of days to fully regrow to what it was before, Zhang Che’s senses were very sharp. He could tell that the spiritual grass was already slowly growing from where it snapped off.
“I wonder what it is like if I dig out the spiritual grass from the root?”
Zhang Che felt like he had found the root of the problem. He quickly went up and took out an herbal hoe from his spatial storage, digging at the ground where the spiritual herb was growing.
Clang! A loud noise rang out. Zhang Che was caught unprepared. The herbal hoe in his hand was nearly knocked out of his hand. The ground where the spiritual grass grew on was actually as tough as a rock. That swing of his hoe actually didn’t move the ground at all.
“What the heck!?” Zhang Che’s expression was ugly. Although he didn’t use much strength to dig at the earth earlier, no matter how hard the soil was, a small hole should have been dug out.
However, upon closer inspection, he didn’t even leave a mark on the ground!
Everything he had encountered after entering this secret world was strange. Zhang Che had already grown immune to it, not complaining. He brought out the Scarlet Meteorite Huge Sword and stabbed hard at the ground.
Dang! An extremely strong rebound travelled up the sword, and Zhang Che almost lost his grip on the legend-quality sword.
Looking back at the ground, it remained undamaged!
“I don’t believe this crap!” Zhang Che was incredibly annoyed by now. A scarlet and white streak of light shot out from his brow, slashing across the ground at lightning speed.
It was useless, however. Even the scarlet and white sword, which could heavily injure even high-tier epic-quality exotic beasts, was unable to leave a mark on the ground!
“This is too fantastical!” Zhang Che was speechless for a long time. In the end, he shook his head silently, not wasting any more effort.
Obviously, unless he found a way to dig through the tough ground, he would be unable to bring a single spiritual herb away even if he found them all. If he broke the herbs by force, they would immediately turn into spiritual qi and disappear. There was nothing to gain from that…
Why was the ground so tough? And how did the soft and delicate vegetation grow from it?
All this exceeded Zhang Che’s understanding…

A Universe of Bloody Evolution
The Void was never meant to be opened to the Multiverse. The horrors waiting inside it should have never seen the light. And yet, the biggest mistake in the history of creation led to the impossible. In an event later known as the Outbreak, gates appeared in the first Universe, and with them, the Void was free. For ages the Void destroyed universe after universe, spreading its power in every direction, leaving only death and pain behind. But before every Universe met its end, it still had a chance. A small part of the population that survived the initial Outbreak and was granted a mysterious System to help them fight against the dangers that came from the Void. They were the Multiverse's last hope even if they couldn't stop the collapse of their own world. And so the cycle continued until the 36th Outbreak came. Thrust into a constant battle for his life, Leo was determined to push forward and find his remaining family. Even if it meant sacrificing what was left of his humanity. After all, you either adapt or die. Story of progression and evolution with my take at the post-apocalyptic genre. Unlike most monster evolution stories where the monster rushes to gain human form, here I plan to do something quite the opposite. After all, in a world where almost everything wants to kill you, being human can be hard. Warnings are here to give me the freedom to write whatever is necessary. This is my first original novel. Also English isn't my native language so any feedback is welcome. Remember that even if initially this story takes place on Earth, fictional places, streets, etc will appear.
