Chapter 167: Panicking All Day Had Become the Order of the Day
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
If I had gone then, the patient might not have died!
Hearing the news, Wang Yao thought of the possibility. After all, it involved a person’s life.
The next day, the sun was bright and radiant, and the weather was warm.
Wang Yao was in his cottage making a decoction for Wei Hai.
He was making two decoctions of Regather soup and one decoction of Bug Removal soup. He was already very familiar with the former, and he could decoct it with ease. The latter was comparatively easier to decoct.
The two decoctions took a little longer than the morning to decoct.
“I can go see Wei Hai in the afternoon.”
He called Wang Mingbao and asked him to tell Wei Hai that he would go to see Wei Hai for a follow-up.
In the afternoon, Wei Hai had arrived very early at Wang Mingbao’s shop.
“My man, can I ask you something?” Wei Hai smiled and asked.
He was now in high spirits and in a great mood as his condition had turned for the better. His complexion looked much better than before. It could be that he had a lesser mental burden, and so, he had better quality sleep. In the last few days, he was contemplating how to thank Doctor Wang. If he gave money, it was too concrete and was a bit vulgar. Thus, he thought he could find out what Wang Yao liked instead. Before, he was alarmed all the time; panicking all day had become the norm for him. He had not considered this matter at all.
“What do you want to know?”
“What does Doctor Wang like? I’d like to show my appreciation.”
“His likes?” Wang Mingbao lowered his head and pondered. “I don’t really see him having any particular likes. He does like drinking tea and ancient traditional Chinese medicine implements.”
“Tea? Antiquities?” Wei Hai retrieved two important information from his words. “Understood, thank you.”
“Actually, he doesn’t really care for such things. So long as you focus, be at ease and follow his treatment, this is better than anything else.”
“Hm, I’ll still want to show my gratitude.”
Wang Mingbao smiled and shook his head. The person before him had changed drastically, and he had witnessed it with his own eyes. Consequently, he was very impressed by his best friend.
…
Around 2 pm in the afternoon, Wang Yao arrived at Wang Mingbao’s shop.
“Shall we go to my place?” asked Wei Hai.
“There’s no need. Today is a follow-up. Here will be fine.”
Wang Yao took Wei Hai’s pulse. His condition had indeed improved.
“Okay, your condition has improved. Continue to take the medicine. I have increased the strength of the Bug Removal soup. The Regather soup’s potency remains unchanged for now,” said Wang Yao. “Here is a decoction of Bug Removal soup and two decoctions of Regather soup.”

“Okay, thank you.” Wei Hai took the three decoctions. To him, these were precious items that could not be exchanged with any gold or silver!
“Doctor Wang, do you have time tonight? Let’s have dinner?” Wei Hai tried asking. In all this time, he wanted to treat Wang Yao to a meal to express his thanks, but Wang Yao had always declined.
“No need. You concentrate on recuperating. It’s better to eat less of those restaurant foods,” Wang Yao smiled and remarked.
“Okay, okay.”
Wei Hai left, beaming.
“Look at him; look at how happy he is!” Wang Mingbao commented while looking at his departing figure.
“Yes!” Wang Yao was smiling as well. He had a sense of satisfaction. This was the difference between a doctor and other professions.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving?”
“Okay.”
After he left Wang Mingbao’s shop, due to curiosity, Wang Yao drove and detoured to the county hospital. He observed that the patient’s family was still at the entrance. A few policemen were present as well to maintain order as they were afraid that the situation might deteriorate.
“Hey, why are you here?”
He coincidentally met Pan Jun.
“I was on the way and came over to take a look. The matter is still not resolved?”
“The hospital’s leader is currently negotiating with the family. It should be almost resolved now,” said Pan Jun. “That was close!”
“Why, did the patient first go to the emergency ward?”
“Yes, I was supposed to do the checks. During the check-up, I noticed that his heart had some abnormalities, and there was insufficient cerebral blood supply, so I sent him to the relevant department for treatment. However, the patient rapidly displayed complications, and that was when I wanted to ask you to come. The patient was in the hospital for less than three hours before suddenly hemorrhaging in the internal organs.”
“Hemorrhage?”
“Yes. It might be an aneurysm, and the location was very special. It was not discovered when checked, and the illness happened suddenly, causing the arteries to burst and hemorrhage,” Pan Jun explained.
“Were you affected too?”
“I was definitely affected since I was the first to see this patient. But the impact is not as great since the person did not die under my watch. Just that I was implicated in this.”
“That’s good.” Wang Yao had a good impression of Pan Jun, but not just because of their partnership. From his observation of this burly man, Wang Yao could see that he possessed the special qualities of a good doctor; he genuinely cared for his patients and did not regard it as merely a job.
“I’ll leave now.”
“Okay. Drive carefully.”
…
Thousands of miles away in Jing City, in an elegant residence.

In a relatively big bedroom with a cozy decor, there was a large and soft bed. A mesh curtain was hung around the bed. In it lay a person whose whole body was enmeshed in gauze. There was gauze veil on the person’s head. The entire room had a strange fragrance. Upon careful sniffing, there was a stench. The fragrance was to obscure the stench.
Apart from the strange patient on the bed, there were three other people in the room. There was a middle-aged man in his 40’s with a commanding aura, a lady who looked to be in her 30’s who was an aristocratic beauty and another man, who was the person who accompanied Guo Sirou and He Qisheng to Haiqu City to invite Wang Yao. He was the man named Gu, and he was currently checking on the patient’s condition.
After some time, he shifted his hand away.
“How is it?” the lady asked in a soft voice.
“From the pulse condition, Miss’s body had a slight turn for the better,” the man named Gu replied.
“Which means this doctor who refused to show up really possesses exceptional skills?” the middle-aged man asked.
“I can’t comment on anything else, but this decoction is really extraordinary!” Gu remarked.
“Ah Cheng, please take care of Xue,” said the middle-aged man.
“Boss, I’d do my best even without you saying!” The man named Gu had watched the girl on the bed grow up, and she was like a daughter to him. In order to treat her illness, he had thought of all ways and means.
“Let me ask the old man again. Let’s go to the Guo’s!” said the middle-aged man.
He gazed at his daughter on the bed, his eyes full of love. In order to treat his daughter’s illness, he was willing to do anything!
This was a father. He did not speak much usually, but he was as stalwart as the mountains.
…
In an architecture in an old-world style in Jing City.
“Sigh. What is this young man thinking?” an old man who looked to be in his 70’s was lying on an old rattan chair.
“Boss, don’t think too much.” Beside him was a man in his 40’s, he was his personal doctor.
Recently, the head of the family’s body had started to exhibit signs of degeneration as per the past year. He had taken two of the miraculous decoctions that had delayed the deterioration and forcefully pulled him back from the jaws of death. Additionally, he had the help of some specialists which enabled his body to improve tremendously. Despite these measures, he was still a man over 80 years old who was experiencing the inevitable effects of old age.
“Poor Xue…”
As he sighed, a secretary entered from outside.
“Look, the two persons from old Shu’s family have come,” the old man smiled and said.
While talking, a father and son entered the courtyard.
…
“Yao, when you are free, can you go to your grandmother’s place?” Wang Yao’s mother suddenly asked while they were having dinner.
“What’s the matter?” Wang Yao asked.
“Your grandmother said she can’t sleep.”
“Can’t sleep? I’ll go to her place after dinner,” Wang Yao remarked and ate his dinner quickly.
“No hurry. It’s already night, and it’s difficult to drive now.”
“It’s alright.” Wang Yao waved his hands.
After dinner, Wang Yao and his mother went to his grandmother’s house.
When Wang Yang was little, he had stayed at his grandmother’s house for a period of time, and the two old people treated him very well. He was very close to his grandma and grandpa.
“Why are you here?” Wang Yao’s grandparents saw them and were surprised. “Have you had dinner yet?”
“Yes. Yao heard that you are having trouble sleeping at night and so we came immediately,” said Zhang Xiuying.
“Huh? This is just a small matter. Besides, you could have come tomorrow.”
“It’s alright Grandma since I don’t have anything to do after dinner. We’re so close anyway; driving takes just a little over ten minutes. Let me take a look at you” said Wang Yao.
“Okay, you can take a look.”
Wang Yao took her pulse and did not discover any major issues. The old lady’s health was quite good.
“There are no issues; you are in good health. I will still make a decoction for you. After you drink it, you should feel better,” said Wang Yao.
“Huh? I did say that I had no problems; why did your Mom have to tell you about this?”
Wang Yao and his mother did not stay long before departing.
“Your grandmother is okay?”
“Of course, I said so at Grandma’s place,” Wang Yao smiled and said. “My guess is that she was thinking of stuff at night and could not sleep. Most likely, it’s due to my younger aunt’s pregnancy. When you’re free, you can go talk with her.”
“The pregnancy again. Ok, I know.”
When they got home, Wang Yao went up the hill and took the whole night preparing the herbs to decoct Anshensan. Apart from the original ingredients, he added some Shanjing in order to strengthen his grandmother’s bodily functions.
In the early morning of the next day, after his breathing exercises on the hill, Wang Yao drove to deliver the decoction to his grandmother. On his way, he bought some things in town. He advised her on how to consume the medicine, chatted with his grandparents for a bit, and finally, departed.

Souls of Savagery
Souls of Savagery is a series of short stories intended to function much like a comic book series. However, to experience the complete story in a logical order you should read the volumes in numerical order, starting of course, with Volume 1: A Bloodbath by Any Other Name. Each volume is told from a single point of view and that will change from volume to volume. Though, the narrative will require later volumes to return to characters that have been featured previously. I hope you enjoy.
