Chapter 365: A Stream in the Fire
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
“How have you been lately?”
“I’m doing quite well.”
“Is your brother’s condition improving?”
“Yes. He’s slightly better,” Chen Ying replied with a smile.
“I’ll go see him again these days. Do some preparations to make sure it happens. I want to give him a treatment alone,” Wang Yao said.
This time, he wanted to try and see if his neixi had any effect on Chen Ying’s brother’s strange illness.
“All right. Thank you,” Chen Ying answered very happily.
Both of them chatted for a while longer. It was already late.
“Rest well.”
“Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Chen Ying returned to her room. Wang Yao sat in the small courtyard, looking at the sky of Jing City.
It’s still gray.
Although it was high up in the sky, Wang Yao’s extraordinary vision had noticed that the sky was different.
The population here was too big. There were also too many companies.
This city had too much on its shoulders.
It always makes people feel depressed.
Perhaps the heritage of this city was too hefty.
Wang Yao only went to bed after 11 o’clock that night.
The next morning, Chen Ying had already prepared breakfast. There were a few simple side dishes, a bowl of noodles, and a plate of steamed buns. They were delicious and it reminded him of home.
“Are these Shandong dishes?”
“Yes. How’s the taste?” Chen Ying asked with a smile.
“It’s very delicious. It tastes like home. Thank you.”
“I’m glad you like it,” Chen Ying responded with a smile.
After breakfast, he walked to the Su family’s house. Song Ruiping was already waiting at home.
“Hello, Dr. Wang.”
“Hello, Madam.”
After a few words of courtesy, he went to Su Xiaoxue’s room to give her a treatment.
“Hello, Dr. Wang.”
There was an obvious change in Su Xiaoxue’s voice. It became even nicer and even more cheerful. Her body was recovering and her state of mind had been good. After all, her spirit was so amazing that she was able to persist, even when she was suffering from this horrifying illness. As her condition improved, her state of mind had also become better.
Most of the gauze on her body had already been removed, but her face was still covered with a scarf. Her eyes were bright and lively.
“Hello,” Dr. Wang greeted with a smile.
At first, he felt that Su Xiaoxue was to be pitied because she suffered from such a strange illness. He admired this girl a lot after meeting her for a few times. He had also decided to do his best in curing her illness.

“You look a lot better.”
“I’m indeed feeling much better.”
Su Xiaoxue could feel the obvious changes in her body. She was already feeling much, much better.
“Let me have a look.”
“Please.”
Her face was covered with a chiffon and she could not be seen. However, he could tell from the skin on her visible arms and neck that she was already recovering quite well. It was not too different from the skin of a normal person. The difference could be noticed if one looked at it closely. The newly-generated skin was even fairer and softer, like a baby’s skin.
Her voice was spirited and powerful. This showed that her spirit, Qi, and vitality of her body was recovering.
There was still a burning sensation in between her breathing, but it had subsided a lot compared to the last time.
Lastly, it was to check her pulse.
The terrifying heat toxins were still present in her body. Moreover, a considerable number of her channels and collaterals were still obstructed. Her organs had not completely recovered yet. Most of the muscles in her body were still shriveled. In short, there were still a lot of problems with her body. She was absolutely far from being healthy.
“How is it, Dr. Wang?” After watching Wang Yao’s examination, Song Ruiping, who stood by the side, asked softly.
“She’s recovering quite well, but she still has to continue to work hard.”
“Okay.”
“I’ve brought the medicine this time. Also, I’m planning to give her a special treatment.”
“A special treatment?”
“Yes. You’ll see.”
This time, Wang Yao planned to use his neixi to treat her to see if it could produce an unexpected effect.
“Alright,” Song Ruiping hurriedly answered.
“Okay. I’ll give it a try first.”
Wang Yao held Su Xiaoxue’s right hand.
The skin of her arm was already recovering very well. It felt smooth and tender.
Ouch!
Su Xiaoxue gave out a light yelp.
“Don’t be nervous. Relax.”
Wang Yao covered the acupoints on her palm with his palm. Then, he spurred his neixi out.
He was not transfusing Qi, but producing a kind of suction, just like the “Methods of Sucking Stars” and the “North Sea Magic” in martial arts novels.
A unique heat sensation was transferred to Wang Yao’s palm through Su Xiaoxue’s wrist. Then, it entered his body along his channels and collaterals.
He felt that the heat was different from that of others. He had used the same method to treat Sun Yunsheng in Dao City before. He had discovered something new due to the positive and somewhat magical effect that time. This also gave him more certainty and confidence for his trip to Jing City this time.

There were yang toxins in Sun Yunsheng’s body. The so-called toxin was not the kind of poison found in food poisoning. Instead, it was a scary foreign substance which could cause harm to the body. The toxins in Sun Yunsheng’s body were horrifyingly scorching. Solitary Yang energy failed to grow. On the other hand, the toxins in Su Xiaoxue’s body were not only scorching, they also had a terrible eroding effect. One was just burning, the other was releasing poisonous smoke in addition to the fire.
Traces of the heat toxins were being sucked into Wang Yao’s palm through her arm. Then, it came into contact with the pure neixi and it was frittered away in a very short period of time. Wang Yao was not unfamiliar with this process. It was the same during the treatment in Dao City and this treatment was clearly effective.
Su Xiaoxue only felt that her arm suddenly became hot, as if something was transferred to Wang Yao’s palm through her arm. It was a fascinating feeling.
Wang Yao stopped temporarily after about 20 minutes because he could feel that this treatment would also have a destructive effect on Su Xiaoxue’s body. The tissues, channels, and collaterals in her body were severely damaged by the heat toxins. Her condition had just managed to improve through the recuperation of drugs. This method of extracting the toxins required the arteries and veins to be strong enough, just like the diversion of flood. If the river was not wide and strong enough, the flood was likely to overflow, which in turn would create a disaster in the places nearby.
“How do you feel? Tell me honestly.”
“My arm is hot.”
“Is it painful?”
“A little,” Su Xiaoxue responded. In fact, her arm hurt badly, as if it was being grilled over a flame.
“I’m too anxious,” Wang Yao said.
In Dao City the other day, Sun Yunsheng also had such a reaction, but it did not hurt that badly because he had already consumed the herbal medicine decocted using the frost grass before the treatment. It temporarily suppressed the yang toxins. On the other hand, Su Xiaoxue was different. The toxins in her body were not suppressed.
I have an idea.
Wang Yao thought about it and directly transfused some neixi into her body through his palm.
The purest essence of vitality could help her fight the heat toxins in her body.
Su Xiaoxue felt the same again. A mild stream of Qi was transferred to her arm through Wang Yao’s palm. Then, the mild stream of Qi became cooling. It made her arm feel a lot better in a very short period of time, as if it was immersed in cold water.
“What’s this?” She was very surprised.
Song Ruiping was even more stunned.
“What’s this treatment method?”
During the period of 40 minutes just now, she realized that Wang Yao’s palm was almost clutching her daughter’s arm all the time. He basically did not move. This was his so-called treatment?
Huh?
Wang Yao’s eyes lit up.
What’s this?!
He quivered.
He discovered another stream of Qi which was different from that of others in Su Xiaoxue’s body.
This feels like neixi!
How is this possible?!
If it was not for Wang Yao’s attentiveness, it could not even be detected. Although it was very weak and almost negligible, he could basically confirm that this was neixi. No, it could not be called neixi yet, but this was the initial embryonic form.
Why would there be such a thing in Su Xiaoxue’s body? It was not present when he treated her last time. Furthermore, she was severely ill and she could not even sit up. How did she practice neixi?
Wang Yao was very shocked about this.
Seeing that Wang Yao’s expression had changed, Song Ruiping thought that there was something wrong with her daughter again, so she asked softly, “Dr. Wang, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Wang Yao responded after regaining his senses.
He stared at Su Xiaoxue.
“Miss Su, do you feel anything else that’s different in your body?”
“Dr. Wang, call me Xiaoxue. Don’t call me Miss. It’s awkward,” Su Xiaoxue replied with a smile.
“Okay.”
“Umm, I feel that my body is a lot better lately and there seems to be something else in my body.”
“Something else? What?!” Song Ruiping hurriedly asked by the side. Her daughter had never told her about this.
“Mother, don’t worry. I can’t explain it clearly too. Every time when I feel unwell, a refreshing sensation will appear and ease the pain.”
“Where is it?”
“It’s in the lower abdomen.”
The Qihai in the diaphragm.
“When did it start?”
“It’s been about more than a month,” Su Xiaoxue answered after thinking for a while.
“Umm, is it okay for you to tell me how it happened?” Wang Yao asked after slightly hesitating for a while.
“It happened because of you, Dr. Wang.”
“Me?!” Wang Yao was stunned. “What does it have to do with me?”
“When you first started to treat me, you’ve recited a few scriptures before. They should be Taoist scriptures. I’ll silently recite the scriptures when I’m free. After that, I’ve also asked Mother or Aunty Yun to recite the scriptures for me. I don’t know why, but that thing suddenly appeared in my body one day. What is it?”
Wang Yao was immediately struck dumb!
Could this be?!

Rise of the First Necromancer
Asrael Nessarat awakes on a sandy dune with a mouthful of sand and nothing but tattered rags in his posession. As the High Magus of the school of Necromancy, he once aspired to prove to the Emperor that magic still held a place in their society. But that day came, passed and inevitably accelerated his kind's downfall. Now; they are hunted, strung up and burned on pyres throughout the Empire by the Emperor's holy Inquisition- an efficient and ruthless army hell-bent on bleeding every last droplet of magic from the lands. With nothing but a mouthful of sand and tattered rags; Asrael is determined to seek the one thing his cold, still heart desires. Vengeance. This story can, at times, get very dark. It is not recommended for the faint of heart. This is not a story of an overtly powerful wizard who can pulverize his enemies from across the world, nor is it in any way, shape or form a joyous tale. We follow Asrael as he and his companions explore and seek to change an unjust world, where kindness and acceptance are exceptions, rather than the rule. If you are looking for a story to inspire hope or joy, this is not it. If you wish to read about likeable, heroic people, turn around. If you wish to see good battle evil, where the cut in between is clear, then this is not for you.

Summary: Just the story of a necromancer and his eventual army. Currently, the only major thing of note is a pretty fleshed out magic system. No set list of spells or specific incantations. Just rules similar to the laws of physics, within those laws you can do whatever is possible. Updates: I work Sunday thru Wednesday and updates tend to revolve around my scheduled days off. Currently, I release content as I feel it's ready for release because that's what I myself would prefer from an author. Warnings: This story is graphic. blood/necromancy magic that requires self-harm to use. explicit descriptions of sexuality. (though fairly tame outside of the marked chapters, at least compared to said chapters) and is generally darker in tone. If you're concerned you might start to read only to be turned off by these elements. See 7. Teetering on the Edge for an example of the graphic nature of violence or 9. Explicit Content for a fairly self-contained example of the most explicit of the sexual content.

Four story anthology
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] [participant in #NaNoWriMo] Preface: This fiction will contain four different stories set up as a challenge for myself and to get better at writing. The challenge for royal road writathon is a 55.555 word goal while the nanowrimo challenge is 50.000 words. Reader suggestions is turned on, feel free to point out errors I missed and I'll fix them up! Chasing sun, napping softly: Cultivation/Xianxia genre. Some parts will poke at the ridiculousness of the Xianxia gerne. We follow the life of a magical fox monster, who doesn't like how the cultivation world works. Said beast seems to have more knowledge than is usual for normal magical beasts. In it's infinite wisdom it decided to search for the main character of the cultivation world to have a cozy and safe place beside him. Our fox will act as a "wise beast" to coast along on the main characters rise to greatness, all for peace, happiness and that amazing napping spot in the sun. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing in first person. Comedic effect between talking vaguely and sounding wise. The cost of heroism: A story more centered around fights and mental health of hired mercenaries/heroes. The world is infected with an eldritch corruption. Humans are trying their best to explore and clear out wilderness and the dungeons hiding in them to establish new cities. Lords seek for hired hands to do the professional work. Thanks to the setting, the story will show how awful pasts are the norm and how pragmatic people became thanks to that. People exchange their sanity for riches, fame and gods acceptance. Interpersonal relationships change drastically and quickly. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing grim scenes/imparting a feeling of how grim the world is. Writing fight scenes. Showing different mental states. Describing their influence on people during fights, walks or even after successful or failed campaigns. Who will be the next powerhouse? : A story about a gaming show, it's host Staan and the different participants. Stereotype characters, stereotype backstories, silly challenges and quizzes. The winner of those challenges gets powerups for their power system. Be it magic, ki, psychic power or anything else imaginable and unimaginable to reach the power of gods. The challenges for myself with this story: A softer tone for storytelling. Making the reader smile and enjoy themselves. A different try at slice of life story. I was left behind on earth as my family conquered another world and enjoys riches, but that's okey because I got a cheat too! : Stereotypical Isekai story parody twisted into an Urban Fantasy story. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing over the top and overdramatic scenarios/scenes Writing in first person. Walking into stereotypical scenarios and making them more dramatic/giving them a twist. Different type of humor.

Knights of the Partition
We like to think there are no monsters. No magic, no gods, nothing waiting in the night but the stars and cold, hard science. It’s a comforting thought. It isn't true. Magic isn't common, mind you. Working forces is difficult in the Age of Man, and gods are limited in the ways they interact with the world. The great monsters of old have mostly been slain, or sealed away. But rare or not, the magic isn't gone. The great Working that protects us from the horrors of the past does not have the power to destroy such things. Instead, it created the Partition, a tapestry of worlds beyond the boundary of our own. There the magic roams, searching for a way to come back. I am a Knight of Avalon. One of the protectors of the Partition. How did I get this job? Poor decisions, mostly.
