A thunder that shone brilliantly outside the windows brought Yang Xinyu back to his surroundings. His eyes had tears in them. He got up to draw the curtains before slipping back beside her. Her thighs must have rubbed together making her wince in pain in her sleep. He held her hand and squeezed it trying to reassure her.

He had given her so much pain. His family had given them the most miserable times of their lives. His heart ached for Wu Lina. He kept one arm on his forehead and the other held Wu Lina's hand. Sleep eluded him for a long time…

In the morning, Yang Xinyu woke up earlier than usual, got dressed and left home, being careful not to wake Wu Lina.

He drove to the Yang Mansion. The old butler opened the door and before he could say a word, Yang Xinyu forced the door open wide with a loud sound. It was only 7am in the morning. His parents were sitting in the small terrace garden having tea and reading morning newspaper. He quickly climbed the stairs taking two steps at a time to reach the terrace garden, which was on the second floor of the mansion.

Mrs. Yang was serving tea to the Chairman when they saw Yang Xinyu. He was panting, his face flushed with anger.

He pointed at his mother and said, "Mother, you are going overboard. Just because Wu Lina isn't saying anything, that doesn't mean she is weak. She has stopped herself only because she respects you as her senior. Don't cross the boundaries."

Mrs. Yang became mad in an instant, "Look at you! You have no shame left. I haven't done anything. Why are you shouting?"

"I know that yesterday you spilled the hot soup on Wu Lina purposefully."

"No, it was a mistake," she replied with a cold glare.

"Mother, I know you too well. You have the most sophisticated façade in the society. You wouldn't kill a mosquito to maintain your image. So obviously this act of yours was deliberate. I had to take Wu Lina to the hospital. Her skin has been scalded. Don't you think that both Lina and I have had our share of miseries? If you cannot see us together, leave us. Don't come to visit us again!" he retorted.

Yang Chún qiàn got furious. She threw the cup in her hand, which shattered into a thousand pieces. "Get out of this house!"

"And if you have the guts, then challenge me. Why are you targeting Wu Lina?"

The Chairman who was watching them silently went to his son and circled his arm around his shoulders, "Yang Xinyu, please come downstairs with me. It is no use talking to your mother. Calm down."

Along with the Chairman, Yang Xinyu left her to go downstairs. His mother was becoming a constant source of worry. He had to do something that would stop her forever. They came down to sit in the dining room.

"Yang Xinyu, your mother is a stubborn woman. If she has decided to not like Wu Lina, chances are she would do that for the life. So it is better you make sure that Wu Lina and Yang Chún qiàn never meet," said the Chairman sincerely. He knew that she was a vicious lady when it came to taking revenge. She had connived and thrown his third mistress out of home along with her youngest son.

"Father you forgot one thing – I am her son," Yang Xinyu spewed in anger.

The Chairman could sense the danger that was lurking in the future. "Yang Xinyu, there is no point in chasing something that would create a rift between the family. It is not good for our public image. Our investors might get scared. We have a board to answer to. Why do you think I have maintained a quiet disposition in front of your mother?"

Yang Xinyu stayed quiet, a grave expression hanging over his face.

The butler had served the breakfast in front of them by then. Yang Xinyu ate a little and while wiping his mouth with a napkin, he informed his father, "Father, I am planning to prepone our engagement party. I want it in the next few days."

The Chairman looked at his son with a smile, "What a fantastic news? Let me know the date and I will arrange everything for you at the old family house." He was excited. He would call all his children and his mistresses along with other relatives of the house. His eldest son's engagement was big news in the family and his wedding would be even greater news!

"I will let you know." Yang Xinyu finished his breakfast and left for the office.

When the Chairman finished the breakfast, he also left to get dressed for the office.

The butler had listened to the conversation. He was a faithful man and he didn't like Wu Lina. His first impression of hers was that she was a gold digger. He went to Mrs. Yang who was still in the terrace garden. She had the morning newspaper in her hand. She pretended to read it and ignored his presence. The butler was used to her conduct.

"Madam, I just served breakfast to senior master and young master Xinyu. The young master is planning to get engaged to Wu Lina as soon as possible," he tattled.

Yang Chún qiàn nodded her head.

"Madam, you must stop the young master from committing this grave mistake. He doesn't know what is right for him. You know the best," he continued, adding fuel to the fire.

She lost her cold demeanor, crushed the paper in her hands and threw it across the butler. "Shut up! Go and prepare for the afternoon lunch!"

The butler cringed and walked out of the terrace garden.

Yang Chún qiàn shrieked in anger. The servants who were working around that area were surprised but they continued to work as if nothing had happened. She picked up the crushed newspaper and opened it to read it again, her face white with wrath.
