Arranged Marriage: To Hear Your Voice Chapter 16

She went downstairs to his room. He just got out of the shower and the manly scent from his bath was comforting. She strode to him and lifted the tablet in front of him.
"I have an emergency."
"What emergency?"
"It will take 26 hours." She scrolled the tablet-like she already predicted his question. He frowns. "Don't fuck Marga and lock your door." He gapes on the last sentence. He scoffed and scooped her chin.
"I'll only fuck you, okay? What emergency is it?"
"I have to make a certain company bankrupt." He laughed and she grinned at him. He shook his head, taking it as a joke again and she left.
He then stopped once she left. It wasn't a joke at all. He can feel it. Though she's good at expressing her face like a real actress is—it was one of the things that he has to know what she is really up to.
He ate dinner with Alvarez and Ethan while Enzo was probably sulking because of a girlfriend problem. He thought, how could he get a girlfriend when he rarely goes out? But he's probably going out and has dating sites. Whatever it is—these triplets are weird.
"Where's Sabrina?" Fernandez asked.
"She has a gang meeting." He and Ethan said at the same time and they looked at each other.
"Oh." Fernandez didn't take it seriously. Because every time Sabrina is absent, they will say that she's probably in a gang meeting or assassinating playboys which sounds like a real joke.
Instead of going to his room, he went to the patio where Ethan is doing a complicated database on his computer while drinking his wine. He sat down in front of Ethan and sipped on his brandy.
"So, is she really in a gang meeting?" Gabriel asked and took a sip on his wine. Ethan laughed.
"You take it seriously?"
"Of course not." Gabriel smiled a little. "But I want to know what the three of you are up to."
"You've very good observation skills, CEO Lawson." Ethan folded his laptop and faced him. "He checked the CCTV of the house where Enzo installed around secretly and there wasn't anyone eavesdropping but Enzo who installed bugs around.

"If she's going to make a certain company bankrupt, is it possible?"
"Mmm." He only nods. "My sister is vicious about making a certain company bankrupt. More vicious than I am."
"So why isn't she holding the company?"
"It is my responsibility and she had the hobbies that I have to spoil her too."
Gabriel nodded understanding her finally. But he knew that something was off so he didn't ask further. He will just have to investigate on his own.
"We have a clan conference in three days," Gabriel said. "It will be in the Old Mansion in Tagaytay."
"Noted." Ethan typed on his phone. "And the engagement party will be held the next day, the same venue?"
"Yes. That's what I plan for. But anyway, she doesn't have any objections to my preparations. Do you have any objection?"
"I'll just go with the flow." Ethan was showing his easy-going attitude. But he was very optimistic and always had a plan. He's calculative as well and that's why the company is rising on the top.
Gabriel tried to call her and he remembered that she doesn't speak. Still, he couldn't connect to her. He also texted her that he's off to bed but he got no response.
"She'll be unreachable for 26 hours," Ethan said and stood. "I'm off to my room." He nodded.
He was about to leave when Marga came with a bottle of wine. She lifted it and asked him for a drink. He only finished his wine and he felt something wasn't right when he remembered her not to fuck her sister. Could it be… Just his speculation, it might be true.
"Sorry, sister-in-law. But I don't have the appetite for another drink."
"Come on, just one glass. Join me."
His phone rings and it was Enzo. He excused himself and answered it. Why is he calling though they are in the same house? Well, he guessed that he's helping him escape Marga.
"Brother-in-law, would you be kind to tell the maid to bring me warm milk?"
"Okay." He went to the maid and told her about Enzo's request. He went to his room and closed it. He stopped and locked it. Just like what she said.

He lay down on the bed to sleep but he couldn't. So he finished a few papers and still couldn't sleep at all. He folded his laptop and thought about her. What is she doing right now?
---
She's using one of the fastest jet planes in London. It only takes two hours to get there and she rode her chopper as she checked her gun and other stuff. She called Enzo and gave him access to the Mafia who stole someone's wife.
Lou is still in his suit with men in suits with him and greets her. She is wearing her black mask and she walked with him. He's speaking in Mandarin and she perfectly understands him. She's quite fluent herself. Though the man was emotionless, he is in love with the woman and she has to save her.
She entered the headquarters of the London Mafia without any hassle as they surrounded them. The man came up with the woman who tried to restrain from them. Telling them that she's done with them. Suddenly, they all shiver when she shows herself to them. Except for the young man who is the heir of the clan.
"Woah, look who's here. I didn't expect that Chenxi Lou would contact someone powerful like you." She didn't speak at all. "So it is true that the legendary Queen of Brutality is mute."
"Please hand over Mrs. Chenxi." The General of her agency said, strong and crisp.
"She's my girlfriend." The young man named Henry said, grabbing the woman's waist.
"She's my wife," Lou said aloud appearing beside her.
"Lou!" the woman was about to run to him. "Let me go! He's my husband!" Henry gripped on her waist. Lou was pleased with her saying that he's her husband.
She lifted two of her guns and everyone knows what it means, they are going to die one by one though they are arm as well.
"Boss," his right hand weaned. The woman stomped her feet to Henry's ankle and ran to Lou. Lou hugged her tightly and glowered at Henry.
"It will be okay, darling."
"I thought you won't come." She rolled her eyes at the dramatic affection. Well, she had her fiancé but single people are too affected with their affection.
She put back her gun and threw a red card to Henry. Henry caught it and smelled the red card. She turned back as Henry opened it.
"Just stop being a single, asshole." That's what she said in the letter and Henry started laughing as they parted.
She exhales, it wasn't funny at all.
"President." She stopped and turned to him. "Can you let my company go this time? Or else it will be a war on our stocks." She glanced at Lou and he nods.
She signed her General and he declared.
"In two hours." Everyone heard it clear. In two hours, when they are still perfectly fine leaving the country, they will stop the war.
They settled in the private jet to China while she sat down on the sofa drinking soda. Lou sat down in front of her and gave her the contract.
"Thank you for your help, Sabrina." She waved her hand off and reviewed the papers. "Anything you need in the future. This is a promise contract of the alliance."
She nods and he signed it without hesitation. She read it and checked it for an hour. When they arrived in Beijing, she was booked in one of the presidential hotels and she slept for two hours. She still has four hours before she goes back to her country.
It's so cold in Beijing and as she rolled on the bed, she noticed shadows lingering on her balcony. That wakes her up. She rolled down on the bed and hid by the corner reaching her gun in the drawer. The glass door from the balcony shattered and shadows entered her suite. They aren't just normal assassins, they somewhat look like ninjas.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
