Chapter 657: Ode to Killing
Translator: Transn Editor: Transn
In the outside world, news of the appearance of the Devil Gate and the birth of the Billion Demonic Sword stunned everyone in the Devilish Land.
Countless martial artists swarmed toward the top ten ancient cities.
Devilish Land was located at the junction of the four domains: Dark Domain, Green Dragon Domain, Thunder Domain, and Cloud Domain. Millions of martial artists came from these four domains, many of whom were peerless geniuses.
A young black-robed man approached North Devil City rapidly. He stopped directly above the city.
“Hehe, interesting!” The man smiled coldly as he looked down at the floating Devil Gate.
“If I could present the Demonic Sword to our hall master, this would make conquering the entire East Continent much easier.”
Two men arrived together at Earth Devil City.
Thunder and lightning flashed around them. The thunder force was so powerful it could be felt 3,000 meters away.
“Senior Brother, the Devil Stele’s secret has been solved!”
“Here comes our chance, let’s head inside!”
In the ancient city, a black figure arrived at the Devil Gate.
This figure was also clad in black, her face hidden behind a black veil.
However, the slim and voluptuous figure under her loose-fitting robe gave her gender away.
“The Billion Demonic Sword will be the key to our freedom!” she proclaimed. She went straight into the Devil Gate.
Experts from all across the land continued to enter the Devil Gate.
“Kill!”
He could use his Martial Soul. Su Mo’s confidence surged. He continued to activate his Martial Soul and started his frenzied killing.
As his cultivation recovered to the Spiritual Martial Realm, his devouring power increased rapidly.
Those with a cultivation lower than Su Mo’s were unable to resist his devouring power. Some even exploded instantly.
Those whose cultivations were slightly higher were also affected. They no longer even posed a challenge.

Su Mo’s cultivation continued its rapid recovery.
Lv 2 Spiritual Martial Realm!
Lv 3 Spiritual Martial Realm!
Lv 5 Spiritual Martial Realm!
Lv 6 Spiritual Martial Realm!
In a matter of 10 minutes, Su Mo’s cultivation had already reached Lv 6 Spiritual Martial Realm.
“Die!”
Sword radiance flashed. Sword Qi sliced through the air. A middle-aged man standing 30 meters away was killed instantly.
Su Mo took his storage ring and continued on his warpath.
The number of casualties was just too high. Their corpses piled up like a mountain, leaving behind numerous storage rings.
Su Mo thought of halting his killing rampage to collect all the storage rings, but he couldn’t. He had to recover his strength as quickly as possible.
Otherwise, if he was not powerful enough, he would be in extreme danger.
Swoosh!
In the distance he saw a middle-aged man in a brocade robe shoot up to the sky and dash straight for the Demonic Sword.
He was none other than Yin Tianchou’s father, Sky Devil City’s governor, Yin Qingyuan. He had already recovered his cultivation to the True Spirit Realm.
Yin Qingyuan moved incredibly fast, covering a distance of dozens of kilometers in an instant.
Suddenly, a dazzling fist radiance streaked across the sky, heading straight for Yin Qingyuan.
“Break!” Yin Qingyuan shouted as he struck his palm out at the fist radiance. A gigantic palm print collided with the fist radiance.
Boom!
A loud explosion knocked him back.
“Haha! Yin Qingyuan, as long as I’m around, don’t even think about the Demonic Sword!” A tall miserable looking elderly man laughed heartily as he rose to the sky and dashed toward the Demonic Sword from another direction.
“Earth Devil King!” Yin Qingyuan glared at him. He was from one of the top ten ancient cities in Devilish Land and also Earth Devil City’s governor, the Earth Devil King.

“Humph! Let’s see who will actually get the Demonic Sword!” Yin Qingyuan sneered. He attacked the Earth Devil King.
They were engaged in a fierce fight. They were both evenly matched.
Many others had recovered their cultivations to the True Spirit Realm. They rose to the air one after another and rushed toward the Demonic Sword.
No one could stand to see others gaining momentum. Whoever dashed ahead of the pack was subject to fierce attacks from the rest.
Everyone was holding everyone else back.
A skirmish broke out once again. Radiances were flashing and explosions could be heard constantly.
To them, everyone else, no matter who they were, was their enemy. Hence, the fights were extremely chaotic.
Su Mo glanced at the aerial battle. Hundreds of martial artists had already regained True Darkness Realm cultivation.
Most of them were older generation experts whose original cultivations were at the Martial King Realm.
These people’s cultivations may have been suppressed, but their combat experience and martial arts techniques far exceeded the others.
When it comes to fighting among the same level, average True Darkness Realm or Enlightenment Realm martial artists were simply no match. Hence, the experts could recover their cultivation at a quicker rate.
Among these people, a small minority were younger martial artists, such as Yin Tianchou. He had also recovered to the True Spirit Realm.
“Almost there!”
Su Mo’s eyes were full of murderous intent. He only needed a few more minutes for his cultivation to recover to the True Spirit Realm.
“Kill!” Su Mo continued to activate his Devouring Martial Soul and entered killing mode once again. Within the sphere of influence of his Devouring Martial Soul he was invincible.
Rip! Rip!
Sword Qi shot frantically from all directions. His single attack had killed dozens of people.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
He reached out to grab all the storage rings.
In fact, if it wasn’t for his collecting of all these storage rings, his rate of recovery would be just as fast as Yin Qingyuan and the rest.
Su Mo’s body trembled again and his cultivation recovered to Lv 7 Spiritual Martial Realm.
“What’s going on? Why has my Martial Soul not advanced?” Su Mo frowned. He was concerned about his Martial Soul.
After such a long period of killing, his martial soul had devoured tons of martial souls, souls that had been killed by him and by those around him.
Although the martial souls he had devoured were all basically Earth Class Martial Souls, he had devoured so many of them. Yet his Devouring Martial Soul still did not advance further.
Su Mo’s heart sank. His Devouring Martial Soul had already devoured too many Beast Souls, and still not advanced to the next level.
If devouring others Martial Souls could not advance it to another level, it meant his Devouring Martial Soul might never advance!
“Maybe it can’t break through because my Martial Soul force has been suppressed?”
Su Mo wondered. He refused to believe that his Martial Soul could no longer advance.
“Just kill!” Su Mo quickly abandoned all distractions and started his killing rampage again.
Although blood flowed like a river and the corpses piled up high like mountains, more and more martial artists continued to gather.
Su Mo discovered that quite a few experts had appeared behind him. Killing peer-level martial artists came to him as easy as chopping vegetables.
He dared not slow down. He hastened his speed of killing.
His sword flashed, blood splattered, and the echoes of screams could be heard wherever his devouring power went. This was an ode to massacre!
In this space, there was no feeling, no hate nor love, it was the most primitive and brutal of killings.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
