Chapter 1032: The Exchange
Translator: Transn Editor: Transn
The vast and massive Mist Mountains was shaped like an Archean Giant Beast, crouching low on the ground.
Su Mo sat down cross-leggedwith his back against the mist at the periphery of the Mist Mountains once he arrived.
He was only half a foot away from the rolling mists behind him. He would be able to quickly retreat into the mist should there be any sudden changes.
The rolling mists were something that could save his life.
There were still about five or six days until the appointed day of the meeting. Su Mo shut his eyes and refined the Dark Force in his body while waiting.
He had just broken through his cultivation realm and his Dark Force had surged rapidly. His foundation was still weak and it would take another month before he could continue breaking through realms.
Time passed slowly. After an indeterminable amount of time, a few experts flew towards Su Mo, stopping a few thousand miles away.
Su Mo felt their presence and immediately opened his eyes, sweeping his gaze over them.
However, these people were not from the Netherworld Devil Sect. Their cultivation states were very low, being in the third or fourth level of the Martial King Realm.
Then, Su Mo shut his eyes again, ignored them, and continued cultivating.
More experts turned up after that, and hundreds of people gathered in the space a day later, their soft chattering growing louder.
These people were all martial artists from the other factions or were Rogue Cultivators. They had all come to watch the exchange of Wu Shan between Su Mo and the Netherworld Devil Sect.
Actually, there were tens of thousands of martial artists who had come to watch the exchange. However, the Mist Mountains was large, spanning close to a million miles, and Su Mo had not revealed where the exchange would take place.
As such, the people who had come to watch could only search near the Mist Mountains. These people were luckier than others, having found where Su Mo was.

Actually, Su Mo had done this to avoid the Netherworld Devil Sect’s traps. The Mist Mountains were large enough, and since he had not set a specific location for the exchange, the sect would not be able to set up traps.
Time passed and in a few hours, the martial artists who gathered numbered close to ten thousand.
The people from the Netherworld Devil Sect finally arrived.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The sound people launching through the air could be heard as experts from the Netherworld Devil Sect rushed forth.
This time, the Netherworld Devil Sect did not have as many people as they did at the Jade Cloud Lake. There were only about a hundred of them.
First Elder, Yan Tai, led the group once again.
However, Yan Tai looked a little pale today and his aura was also much weaker than before. He must have been injured during the battle at the Jade Cloud Lake.
Actually, the people from the Netherworld Devil Sect had long arrived. However, they flew around the Mist Mountains before reaching their current location.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The experts from the Netherworld Devil Sect touched down and fanned out, surrounding Su Mo.
“Su Mo there’s no one to help you this time!” Yan Tai said coldly from his spot several thousand feet away.
This time, the Netherworld Devil Sect had sent a massive number of experts to stop the Emperor Xuan Palace and Sky-sea Pavilion from helping Su Mo.
The Emperor Xuan Palace and Sky-sea Pavilion were in trouble and were not able to come and help Su Mo.
In fact, the Netherworld Devil Sect had even sent a few Founding Elders to stop the East Sea Flood-dragon tribe.
This time, the Netherworld Devil Sect was prepared. Su Mo would die.
Su Mo who was seated with legs crossed slowly opened his eyes. He scanned the crowd and asked with a frown, “Where’s Hong Qingxuan?”
Su Mo did not see Hong Qingxuan among those from the Netherworld Devil Sect, and his expression turned dark.

“Show us our young master and the person you want will appear!” Yan Tai said coldly.
Su Mo nodded and stood up. Wu Shan appeared before him with the wave of his hand, and Su Mo caught him in his hand.
“Young master!”
Yan Tai and the other experts from the Netherworld Devil Sect yelled out in surprise when they saw Wu Shan.
Because Wu Shan looked too pathetic, he did not even seem human.
Wu Shan’s expression was dazed. He still did not know what was happening!
He slowly regained his wits when he heard the alarmed yells of those from the Netherworld Devil Sect.
“First Elder, save me!” Wu Shan looked at Yan Tai and yelled agitatedly.
“Young master!”
Yan Tai looked furious as he turned to glare at Su Mo coldly, his eyes filled with rage. He bellowed, “Su Mo, you bastard. How dare you torture young master!”
“Where is Hong Qingxuan?”
Su Mo asked, his expression indifferent. He ignored Yan Tai’s scolding and did not try to explain because it was unnecessary.
Yan Tai took a deep breath and clapped his hands softly.
Then, a tall figure flew in from afar. The man had once been Su Mo’s Master, Huangfu Qing.
And Huangfu Qing clutched a figure in his hands. It was Hong Qingxuan.
“Qingxuan!” Su Mo grew agitated when he saw Hong Qingxuan.
Then, he sized him up and let out a sigh of relief when he discovered that Hong Qingxuan had not been harmed at all.
However, there was not a single trace of cultivation aura on Hong Qingxuan. It was evident that her cultivation had been sealed.
“Brother Su Mo!” Hong Qingxuan shouted when she saw Su Mo, tears welling up in his eyes.
Su Mo’s heart softened when he saw this. Hong Qingxuan had lost too much for him.
Swish!
Huangfu Qing brought Hong Qingxuan to Yan Tai and stared down at Su Mo coldly.
Su Mo stared back at him. The goodwill they felt during their relationship as teacher and student had long given way to a cold desire to kill each other.
“How shall we make the exchange?” Yan Tai asked Su Mo. He did not decide for himself but allowed Su Mo to do so.
This was so he could calm Su Mo down. Otherwise, if they were the ones to make the arrangement, Su Mo might come up with some other tricks.
Su Mo pondered for a moment and said, “Let then both walk back to where they belong!”
Su Mo’s idea was rather fair. They could prevent any changes from happening in this case.
If he walked up to them to make the exchange, or if they sent someone to do the same, something unexpected might happen.
He doubted that they would agree to send someone weak to make the exchange with him.
“Alright!”
Yan Tai did not think too much about it and nodded his head in agreement. Then, he signaled to Huangfu Qing, and he landed on the ground.
However, he had not released Hong Qingxuan but waited for Su Mo.
Su Mo glanced at Wu Shan, whom he was still holding on to. Then, he pointed at the man without hesitation. His Dark Force surged out and sealed the man’s meridians for the time being.
While Wu Shan had been tortured and had suffered serious injuries, he still had his cultivation. As such, Su Mo had to guard against him.
Yan Tai did not say anything when he saw this but just watched quietly with a barely noticeable glint of laughter in his eyes.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
