Saving 80,000 Gold in an Another World for Retirement Chapter 46
Today’s picture is by
When Mitsuha arrived at the Boses residence in the capital, the servants had already lined up in a row for welcoming. Usually, they would need to prepare in a hurry when the carriage arrives; with a few people lined up in front of the door and the others back-breakingly getting the tea, footbath, and the bath for removing the sweat and dirt ready. This was unavoidable because the estimated arrival time can vary around several days, It’s difficult to prepare in advance before they arrive.
*
It appears that the orphan boy did a good job. He is probably bouncing around. (弾んで貰えたことであろう。)
*
*
*
The butler Rufus takes the front of the row at the same time Mitsuha and Sabine arrive at the Boses residence. All the Boses residence’s servants know Sabine as well. Rufus had all the servants go to Mitsuha’s store to memorize Sabine’s face because she is frequently with Mitsuha and it would be a major incident if they were by some chance rude.
*
*
*
The Earl’s group arrived shortly thereafter. Having changed her position from the safest seat in the middle to the side when they arrived at the capital, Beatrice who’s the first to comes down from the Earl’s family carriage was surprised to notice Sabine next to Mitsuha when she was about to jump at her.
*
*
*
“H… huh?”
*
“Long time no see Beatrice-chan”
*
Sabine greet Beatrice with a smile while clinging to Mitsuha’s arm.
*
“Gununu……”
*
And Beatrice groaned with a regretful face for some reason.
*
Mitsuha smiles wryly.
*
*
*
“Oh my, what are you doing I wonder…”
*
“Here comes Iris-sama!”
*
“Huh…”
*
*
*
Mitsuha turns blue, her heart’s voice unexpectedly leaked out of her mouth from Iris-sama’s words that sounded like something she heard once before.
*
And, Iris-sama puffs her cheeks at being treated like the last boss.
*
Sabine, Beatrice and the men breathe out a sigh while seeing off Mitsuha who was grabbed and pulled by the nape of her neck.
*
“” “Haa~……” “”
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
“So, why did you depart early alone without contacting us?”
*
Iris-sama was furious.
*
She thought that they would be finally traveling together with Mitsuha so she was especially sour.
*
*
*
“N, no that, that was right when the work had reached a point where I can take a break…”
*
“Then, you could have come to our place in that case!”
*
*
*
(N, no! I need a reason……)
*
Mitsuha hurried.
*
(Because there was a way to move quickly…, a car? A bicycle… it’s no good, even if that could be a reason for a leaving late, it won’t be a reason for leaving early…)
*
*
*
Waaaa, and then, while Mitsuha was filled with impatience and anxiety, a lifeboat was tossed in from an unexpected direction.
*
*
*
“Oh, that’s because I asked her”
*
“”Huh?””
*
Iris-sama and Earl were surprised at Sabine-chan’s words.
*
Mitsuha almost raised her voice too but managed to suppress it somehow.
*
*
*
“It’s because I have been sending letters to “come to capital as soon as possible”, and with fairly strong words…”
*

*
*
If the princess says so, they can’t be angry anymore. Because that’ll be blaming her for obeying the princess’s request after all.
*
In addition, the fact that the two people welcomed them together increased the credibility.
*
Reluctantly, Iris-sama gives up any further pursuit.
*
*
*
When Mitsuha looks at Sabine-chan with gratitude thinking “I’m saved”, a wicked smile appeared on that face.
*
*
*
(Oh shooooot!!!)
*
*
*
Weakness was seized!
*
Mitsuha was shocked.
*
Probably, she realizes that there is a reason it can’t be honestly told.
*
And the bright Sabine-chan probably read from the Earl’s attitude that “the Earl knows the reason”.
*
*
*
Sabine-chan never touches on the secrets Mitsuha really needs to protect. However, she does think that it’s okay to know if “someone else knows”. Or rather, maybe she can’t forgive “other people knowing something about Mitsuha that she doesn’t know.”
*
In other words, what that would mean is…… that her pursuit will not stop until Mitsuha speaks her secret.
*
Speak it or present something else as a bargaining chip…
*
Either way, it’ll be a transaction where a big loss was certain.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
“……so, you will tell me right, Mitsuha-neesama”
*
“Uu…”
*
As expected, she’s pursuing it.
*
*
*
“Um, please ask for something else…”
*
“Then, the right to use the store as much as I please”
*
“P, please spare me from that……”
*
That’s right, that thing I was thinking about, what about that? And that.
*
*
*
“Sabine-chan, actually, I have something nice for you but what do you think?”
*
“It’s no good unless it’s something that’ll convince me?”
*
“That’s fine! Now, choose the one you like from between these two.
*
First. A vehicle that doesn’t take up much space and has the maintenance fees covered, fine even on a narrow road and faster than a carriage with Sabine-chan by herself.
*
The other is a magical tool that’ll let me talk to Sabine-chan in the capital even when I am in my Viscounty. Now, which do you like better? ”
*
“Huh……”
*
*
*
Sabine-chan hardens out of surprise.
*
And an escort guard pretending to be casual in the corner of a shop hardens in fear.
*
That’s natural, the escorts will it many times worse if Sabine-chan obtains mobility that’ll let her to rush down narrow roads faster than a horse-drawn carriage.
*
*
*
“U, um, is both no good…”
*
……It came out, the uncle’s killer upturned eyes!
*
But that doesn’t work against me!
*
“No! Only one or the other”
*
*
*
Sabine-chan, who was ~uu~ groaning for a while eventually chose the second “magical tool to talk to Mitsuha in the Viscounty”. That one was more convenient for Mitsuha too. It was one of the safety measures she was thinking about preparing and she couldn’t come up with a suitable person to entrust it with other then Sabine-chan, so she got a pretty good excuse.
*
In the back, the escort seemed to be relieved bottom of their heart.
*
No, I’m sorry I made you worry.
*
*
*
*
*
The next day, I checked Sabine-chan’s room and its surroundings in the royal palace and I teleported to Japan after I got the king’s permission to install the equipment. And first I went to the solar power supplier.
*
Since this is the third time after the store in the capital and the Viscount residence, the talk proceeds smoothly and I made an immediate decision to buy a power generation unit and power storage device. This time it was a very small and simple thing.
*
*
*
And next, to Akihabara.
*
It has now become an otaku town but some remnants of the past still remain.
*
The shop she went to was an amateur radio specialty store.
*
*
*
Actually, Mitsuha earned s amateur radio qualification when she was a middle school student due to her father’s influence. The qualification was meant for the socializing with her father, or rather making her family happy, but she has roughly mastered everything.
*
Presently where everyone who would have flowed towards amateur radios in the old days goes to computers, the amateur radio industry has completely become a sunset industry. However, the elderly maniacs are still alive and new equipment is being developed.
(google: sunset industry means an old and declining industry.)
*
*
*
Walking into the store, Mitsuha was like an adult buying a large number of collectible items aimed at children. (店に入ったミツハは、大人買いをした。)
*
No, in this industry, even an adult wouldn’t buy much.
*
In any case, she bought 3 of the latest HF-band and VHF-band fixed-mounted radios and VHF handheld radios. The antenna will be a ground plane covering 8 bands from 3.5 MHz to 430 MHz.
*
Various other things were brought like 3 antennas, a coaxial cable, and a connector. Tools are unnecessary because they are at home.
*
*
*
No, science has made progress. In the old equipment that father had, the HF radio goes up to 28 MHz; and 50 MHz, 144 MHz and 430 MHz each had dedicated devices, the ground plane antenna only works for 144 MHz and higher, so you even needed to set up a stupidly large 21 MHz antenna, a 3.5 MHz, or a 7 MHz horizontal half-wavelength dipole…. And yet, with 2 transceivers you can get full coverage of 430 MHz and the lower bands and you only need a small ground plane antenna…
*
*
Since it’ll be used in places that the radio law won’t reach, I picked an HF radio with an output of 200W without holding back. I would have needed a second qualification in Japan, but there is no problem if it’s in another world. The VHF fixed-mount is 50W, the handheld is 5W.
*
Dear me, very different compared to the used TS-520X and TR-2200G I got from father.
*
My father seems to have used a Yaesu F-50B line when he was young, but the transmitter and the receiver were in separate enclosures, what era did it come from? Maybe it’s something used during World War II? My family is too good at taking care of our things……
*
*
*
There will probably be an ionosphere in that world too. Because it’s a requirement for being so similar.
*
Can sporadic E happen? Well, let’s not expect sporadic E and radio propagation.
*
Let 144 and 430 be for communication in the same town, 3.5 and 7 MHz for the contact between the capital and the Viscounty. 50 will……, have no turn I guess.
*
*
*
The baggage I bought was too much to carry until I find a suitable place even for teleporting somewhere, so I asked for a time specific delivery from a courier service and returned home.
*
*
*
*
*
At a later date, the capital’s store’s antenna was set up by Kunz-san from the woodworking shop. I thought that much wasn’t something I couldn’t do by myself though, but just in case. It’ll be troublesome if it collapses from something like strong winds.
*
I also had the one in the royal palace was done by Kunz-san. There was also the connection between the capacitor and the solar power generation unit, so I thought this should be left to the professionals. I did the wiring myself of course.
*
As for the one in the territory’s mansion, as expected I installed everything by myself. Since the power supply has already been set up, the only construction was installing the antenna. It was nice that the ground plane was easy to install.
*
*
*
I taught only Sabine-chan and Anton-san the butler the operation method of the radio. Told them not to touch the fine adjustment parts and only explain the minimum operation part. I handed over a picture of the basic state of the switch and dial as a precaution In case someone touches it.
*
For the place they were installed, the Viscount Residence is the study. In the royal palace, is of course, Sabine’s room.
*
Above all, I instructed to absolutely not let anyone else touch it.
*
Furthermore, the frequency setting of those in the Viscount residence and those in the royal palace have been changed. So they won’t be able to listen.
*
*
*
With this, I can check that there’s nothing wrong in the Viscounty every day at a regular time even if I don’t return to the territory every time. Anton-san doesn’t think that I’m in the capital so it won’t seem suspicious if I come back immediately in an emergency.
*
Of course, I won’t contact Sabine-chan on a set schedule. She always comes to the shop so I don’t need to do that. It should be fine because we practiced many times.
*
*
*
It has been arranged to periodical contact Sabine-chan and check that there’s nothing wrong in the capital after the social season ends and I returned to the territory.
*
With this, the possibility of a major incident in the capital or territory when I’m not teleporting for a while is reduced. Since Sabine-chan and Anton-san are quite well-informed people, they will probably let me know as soon as anything happens.
*
*
*
Ah, a LED lights and a small refrigerator was also bought because of Sabine-chan’s stubborn request. Well, there’s some leeway with the power so it’s fine. The power consumption of the radio is low in the reception state, and it can be turned off when not in use. Nobody can use it when Sabine-chan’s not in the room after all.
*
In addition, a kettle pot, electric fan, warm air heater, DVD playback device, the requests kept escalating one after another so they were all rejected. What do you think is the power supply system is for…….
*
You can’t even understand Japanese unless I translate the DVDs in the first place!

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
