Chapter 56 – Empty House

“Yu Yu, what are we doing here?” Shan Yijun followed Chen Daiyu to the most solitary part of their mansion- the attic.

They had informed some servants before going up there so no one would think they had gone missing.

“I’ll be training you from now on.” Chen Daiyu faced him with a strict and serious expression, but Shan Yijun couldn’t help but laugh a little bit at the ridiculousness of the situation. Which irked Chen Daiyu.

She massaged her aching head and faced Shan Yijun. An Idea popped in her head.

“Don’t you wanna learn how to use a gun like I did?” Chen Daiyu smirked, Shan Yijun looked surprised and remembered how he had found his little cousin after the orphanage. She had the same look in her eyes just like the first time he saw her.

Confident but not cocky, firm and stubborn…

Shan Yijun stared at her seriously, he did not need to speak as Chen Daiyu already understood. She smiled, she arrogantly announced in her heart that she would make Shan Yijun be one of the pillars of society in the future.

Their days passed peacefully, days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. Just before the winter break…

Chen Daiyu came out of their car alone, aside from the driver who opened the door. She couldn’t see anyone else.

“Mr. Driver, where did the others go?” Chen daiyu asked. The driver crouched on Chen Daiyu’s level and smiled gently. “Apologies, miss. I don’t know”

“Thank you then,” Chen Daiyu nodded at the driver and went inside their home. The mansion looked emptier than before.

Shan Yijun missed his last class and went home early, he had already informed her before he went home.

The hallways were empty, the living room was empty, all the rooms she had looked at were empty. The usual servants who went back and forth cleaning furniture were nowhere to be found.

Chen Daiyu was feeling uneasy, she didn’t have a way to contact anyone so she couldn’t just ask where they were. She cautiously went into her room, saw it was empty, and went back out.

She kept cautiously walking around the house, her footsteps quiet. The house had never felt so big, she tried to look as meek as possible in case there was an intruder. She could use as many pity points as possible.

She slowly made her way to the kitchen. It was impossible to make a large number of people disappear without anything getting messed up, but the mansion was clean as ever. She kept trying to calm herself down. Maybe they were on a break in the kitchen and Grandpa Shan and Yijun had gone out somewhere.

Chen Daiyu took a deep breath and grasped the door knob of the kitchen. Just as she was about to open the door, she caught a whiff of something sweet. She then calmed down and opened the door.

“Surprise!”

Everyone, including the servants, were there. Wearing party hats and a joyful look on their face.

Grandpa Shan sat in the middle holding a cake with Chen Feng and Lu Ji in tow. Shan Yijun came forward and took Chen Daiyu’s hand to pull her forward. When she got pulled, she stopped dazing and stared at the cake that was brought forward in front of her.

There were written words that she’d never thought she would see.

“Happy birthday Yu Yu”

When she was still not moving or blinking, Chen Feng went forward and carried her. Chen Daiyu yelped in surprise and looked at her dad.

“Go ahead and wish then blow the candle, you wouldn’t want your grandpa’s hands to get tired don’t you?” Chen Feng smiled.

She closed her eyes and when she opened them, she blew the candles.
