Journey Towards Greatness Chapter 97

Julian stayed at Petalburg city for a day as he wanted to see the battle between the top trainers of Hoenn, one is a member of the elite four and the other is the champion.
Julian had already booked the ticket online and waited for the day to come, today was the day he walked out of his room and noticed a tall young man wearing a white beret with a cape and a hat walking in front of him, he had teal blue colored hair.
Julian 'I didn't expect that he would stay in the same hotel as I am'
This young man is Wallace the champion of Hoenn, Julian followed right behind him as he covered his head with the hood of his coat, they both entered the lift.
Wallace looked at Julian but couldn't see his face as it was covered with his hood.
Wallace "Which floor?"
Julian "Parking lot"
Wallace also wanted to go to the parking lot so he pressed the button as the lift went down, there was silence inside the life as both of them stayed silent and minded their own business, once they reached parking lot Wallace went out first and took a glance at Julian but he could not see his face properly, he just saw the color of his eyes and black hair in front of his face, Julian didn't stay there for long and rode off in his bike.
Wallace "Hmm, Have I seen him somewhere?"
Wallace wondered for a second then got in his car and rode off towards the mall where the event was held.
Julian arrived at the mall and saw a huge number of people crowded at the entrance towards the battlefield, Julian didn't have to join them as he booked a VIP ticket so he was lead to a personal room by one of the workers present there, even though the worker was curious who this man was but he didn't get involved as he knew that meddling in rich people business is risky.

Julian took his seat and observed the battlefield and the surroundings, he saw rooms just like his across the battlefield, as he was going through the VIP rooms he noticed few interesting people, one was a slim middle-aged man with red hair wearing a red and black uniform style coat.
Julian 'If I am not wrong he must be the leader of Team Magma but what is he doing here'
Julian continued and saw one more important person, she has blond hairs and very pale white skin, she is one of the members of the elite-four Glacia.
Julian 'Hmm, looks like this event is not a simple exhibition battle, a criminal organization boss, two elite-four members, and a Champion gathered at the same place, what could be the reason for this gathering, did Team Magma find something?'
Julian was indeed curious about this situation but he was not desperate enough to find out what is happening.
Julian 'Well I don't care about what are they doing here, I will just carry on with leaving my life in peace, and its none of my concern I am not from Hoenn anyway'
Julian put this thought at the back of his mind and waited for the battle to begin, soon Wallace and Sidney came forwards and started their battle, it was a one on one battle, Sidney used his Absol and Wallace used his Milotic'
The battle was intense and Julian was really impressed by Wallace's Milotic, she was beautiful but strong and swift as well, at the final moment of the battle Wallace's Milotic beat Sidney's Absol with an Ice Beam and completely freezing it on the spot.
After the battle was over Julian got up from his seat and walked away, as he was leaving the mall he saw few Team Magma grunts walking around the mall, since Julian had nothing else to do for the day he decided to follow one of them.

Julian picked one of the grunts and started following him, the grunt went from one place to another, roaming mindlessly inside the mall, as Julian was walking around he saw few security guards guarding an entrance which led to a dark room, seeing the guards the Team Magma Grunt hid behind a wall and started to talk into his microphone which was planted in his earpiece.
Julian decided to hear his conversation.
Grunt "Boss I found the room where the Orb is kept but there are guards everywhere"
On the other side of the microphone was the leader of Team Magma.
Maxie "Gather the team, it could be a trap but this is a risk worth taking if they really have the Orb"
Julian was surprised by hearing the conversation between them.
Julian 'Are they talking about the Red Orb that could control Groudon'
Julian got curious and used his Omniforce and sent it into the guarded room, where he saw a Red Orb kept right in the middle with lasers surrounding the whole Orb.
Julian 'It looks like an alarm trigger but it's useless'
The Omniforce went past through the laser layer and touched the Orb and examined it.
Julian 'Hahaha, it is indeed fake, looks like they are trying to capture Maxie by baiting him with a fake Orb'
Julian was now really doubting this leader of Team Magma, even though he knew this might be a trap he still came to take a look at it.
Julian 'He is either really stupid or very confident from escaping for them'
Julian decided to wait and watch this, soon he heard a loud boom coming from inside the guarded room, it looks like Team Magma blasted the roof and trying to steal the Orb, soon the alarm went off and the two elite-four members and Wallace came and surrounded Maxie.
Maxie "It really was a trap huh but you cannot catch me, hahahahah"
Suddenly a chopper came flying and released multiple bombshells on the ground, Maxie suddenly pressed a button and he was surrounded by a red forcefield the bombshell landed and blasted causing the whole area to be covered with gas which contained mild poison, feeling hard to breathe all three of them bolted outside as they saw Maxie getting inside the chopper and escaping.
Julian looked at them and couldn't shake his head.
Julian 'What did they expect, did they think that just surrounding him would make him submit, he is a villain character he will use dirty tricks whenever he wants, however, he wants'
Now that the trap failed Julian lost interest and went back to his hotel room.
When he reached his room he opened his phone and looked at the map.
Julian 'The closest city from Petalburg is Rustboro City and it looks like it has a gym as well, then that's decided next destination is Rustboro City'
Julian called it a day and decided to rest.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Balancing of the world
Just as humanity reached the height of its power, it fell again. Mana was introduced into a previously balanced world, sending everything present into chaos. Humanity losing its technological advantages, fell back to the dark ages, back to when survival was all but guaranteed. Mana though useful for enhancing the body isn’t unlimited, and humanity fell behind fast. From experiments, a being of mana, born into this chaotic world. The first of its kind. Rather than thriving in a world to which it belongs, it has to model the world so it will suit its needs. As a lone being, it has to use its power over mana to influence beasts and humans alike to abide by its will and further its goals. It will manipulate intelligent lifeforms to do its bidding while believing that they are becoming stronger. It will help lower lifeforms and guide their lives until they fit into the world as envisioned by our being. Read how our protagonist starts in a small area, changing it to suit its needs, and then grows until the world is balanced and at peace again. This is my first story, and I don’t have an editor yet. My English should be good enough, but I expect to have to go back and do editing later on. I would classify this story as litRPG. There will be a type of system with blue boxes and all, though the perspective is the system itself and how it came to be and why it does what it does. As a single mighty being, there will be dungeon core influences such as expanding the area and influencing all within though there is no such thing as an actual dungeon. As humanity is trying to survive, there will also be some city/base building influences, and I will have some perspective changes to show how the forces are being perceived by the affected people. As I have a busy job, it will be hard to update consistently, but I am quite a bit ahead of what I have currently uploaded.

The Czarina's Buccaneer
RELEASES EVERY MONDAY AT 18:30 CST ----- After suffering the torments of slavery, the destruction of his nation, and the massacre of his band of brothers, Rodion Kazansky craves revenge and yearns for the freedom owed to him as a proud Cossack. A lost horse and a chance meeting with the Catherine the Great set him off on a journey that will take him from the steppes of the Crimea to the beaches of the Gold Coast of Africa and back again. There he will face British slavers, pirates, and the ghosts of his past to become the bane of his enemies as the Czarina's Buccaneer. ----- DISCLAIMER: This novel acknowledges the fact that the Cossacks, and the Ukrainian people by extension, are unique and not simply a "different variety of Russians." The main character views the Russians as "moskal foreigners" and does not see himself as one. This also acknowledges the fact that the czarina deprived many of the Cossacks of their freedom, something that the main character resents.
