In the evening when the couple returned home, Lu Tongyan had some work for Su Ling to do.

"Our business partners from Country F are coming for a meeting on Monday. Wanwan should have been the one to receive them but she has several meetings to attend all day. You are required to go on her behalf."

Su Ling was thunderstruck. Business partners from country F? She had heard that they were all powerful figures in Country F. Not only that, they were also Lu Enterprises' most valued allies. Lu Tongyan was giving her this role?

"I…" she stuttered.

Lu Tongyan shot her a look. "What? You don't want to do it?"

"I…I want to, it's just…too important." What if she messed it up?

Lu Tongyan didn't let her back out. "It's because they are important that they should be received by a member of the Lu family. The company has a lot going on and those two rascals are both too busy. Little Jia is still a child. Are you saying that I should go to recieve them when you are here?"

"No, of course not. I will go." of course, she didn't miss the meaning of the first part of his statement. He was considering her a member of the Lu family?

"Go to Aotian tomorrow. He will tell you everything you should know."

Eh? Go to who now?

"You must also remember, our guests should not feel displeased because they are being received by the deputy CEO's girlfriend. You have to portray the Lu family properly. Don't let us down."

"Yes. I will not let you and Shaoting down."

When she was done discussing with Lu Tongyan in the study, she went to her room. This would be her last night in this mansion. Perhaps she would come back in future but she hoped that if she did, she would be Lu Shaoting's wife.

"Miss Su Ling, I brought you some ginger soup." A maid knocked on the door.

It was the little maid from this afternoon. Su Ling didn't like the taste of ginger soup. "Can I not drink it?"

"I'm sorry, it is an order from second young master. I don't dare to leave unless you've had it."

Su Ling didn't have a favorable impression of her. Nonetheless, she thanked her and had her place the bowl of soup on the night stand. Since it was from her man, she wouldn't reject it.

While waiting for Su Ling to drink the soup, the maid was at it again. "Miss Su Ling, I'm glad you are the one receiving the guests."

"How did you know?" hadn't she only discussed this with Old Master Lu? How come a maid already found out?

The little maid blushed as she smiled bashfully, saying, "Old master's assistant is my friend. He told me."

Su Ling thought that with the way she was acting, she made it sound as though she and that man had an intimate relationship. Lu Tongyan's assistant was a married man for all she knew. But it wasn't her business so she didn't say a word.

"Miss Su Ling, I'm really happy. If it was Wan Jia receiving those guests, it wouldn't be nice. She is so arrogant and pretentious, like a venomous snake hiding in the bushes. You must work hard and defeat her."

Su Ling humped and looked at the little maid. "Someone told me about the Lu family rules, and they said that if anyone did wrong, they could be punished by the head lady or second lady. Is that right?"

The little maid thought that Su Ling was looking for an excuse to punish Wan Jia in future. "Yes, yes. That's right. As the second young master's girlfriend, you hold half of that authority."

"Is that so?" Su Ling laughed.

"Absolutely."

That was the sound of Su Ling's palm landing on the little maid's face.

In the next second, Su Ling's expression changed. She looked at the young woman authoritatively. "Since I only hold half of that authority now, I will not be too hard on you. Find sister-in-law first thing tomorrow morning and apologize to her."

The maid rubbed her burning cheek with tears threatening to fall. Su Ling was so vicious with her slap!

"Servants biting their master in the backs and insulting them, is this how you repay the Lu family for treating you well? You are lucky that I'm not yet the second lady. I would kick you out of this house right now. Leave."

Feeling extremely wronged, the little maid left Su Ling's room as she burst into tears. It hurt so much…was Su Ling's palm made of iron? Wuu…

On the corridor, she met Lu Shaoting who was going to Su Ling's room. He frowned when he saw the palm print on her face. The Lu family cared a lot about their servants and wouldn't unnecessarily bully them.

"What's wrong?"

The maid resumed rubbing her face as she complained. "Second young master, I followed master's instructions. This is what I got."

Lu Shaoting laughed at her. He had received Su Ling's slap before and knew how painful it felt. For a little girl, it must have hurt a lot. "Find the nurse to give you ointment. I'll double your salary this month."

The maid felt pacified. Second young master was considerate!

Lu Shaoting entered her room with a smile. "You did well."

"How do you know what I did?" she was still angry about a servant daring to talk ill of their head lady.

"Father put her up to that."
