Chasing After My Wife Chapter 86

"What could be happening in that emergency room? A man would only be on their knees if it was someone or something very important." one of the nurses whispered to her co-worker as they walked on the corridor, back to their station.
The doctor who was getting the consent form was shocked to see his name on the sheet. He helped him stand up from the ground and talk to him.
"I am just letting you know of the possibility Mr. Madrigal. Still, we will do our best to save your wife and child. Please excuse me." The doctor went back to the emergency room, leaving Travis and Valkyrie again.
Hawk and Brown cleaned up the mess that was left with their worried faces. "I hope she and the baby will make it." Brown spoke with a solemn face while looking at the blood stains on the mattress cover.
"With that amount of bleeding, will it cause a miscarriage?" Hawk asked him since Brown was a doctor and knew a lot about the medical field.
"Not all bleeding will cause miscarriage. However, Jillyanna's baby was still a month old and she had been through a lot of physical and emotional stress lately." Brown responded while removing the sheet cover and placed it in the basket he brought from the laundry area downstairs.
Hawk was sweeping off the floor to make sure that there's no more debris left when his phone rang. It was Valkyrie who's calling him.
"Val? How is she?" he asked directly when he answered the call.
"She's still inside the emergency room. Can you bring Travis a change of clothes and food? He hadn't changed his clothes since earlier and he hadn't taken any food as well. We don't need additional person to be admitted. If this man collapse from exhaustion, it's another problem." Valkyrie was still composed as he said these words but his heavy sigh at the end still betrayed his worry.

"I'll be there as soon as I can. Give me the hospital location and the floor you are in." Hawk responded and ended the call to wait for the text message.
Brown who had been listening on the side, helped him get some clothes and put it in a paper bag that he found on the lowest shelf of the cabinet.
"You can bring these clothes for Travis. I'll continue the cleaning so you can go." Brown commented and handed him the bag.
Hawk smiled and patted his shoulder. "Take a rest after cleaning the room. Just soak the cover in the washing machine with the detergent. I'll clean it myself when I get back. That's too heavy for you."
"Thank you. I'll do as you said. Take care on your way there."
Hawk left with the food and clothes while Brown stayed to continue cleaning.
Not long after making that call, two traffic officers came and talked to Valkyrie regarding his speed limit.
"I'm sorry officers. Someone had a very serious bleeding and we can't wait for any ambulance to come over." Valkyrie apologized and showed them his certificate and badge which shut the officers.
"I see. We'll go on our way. Thank you for giving us your statement."
Just like that. They came like lightning and left with the same speed.
After half an hour, Hawk came with two paper bags. One was containing some clothes and the other one has food in it.
"Did you contact her family?" Hawk asked them when he saw that no one from the Madrid's family came to the hospital. He sat on the bench and placed the bags between him and Travis.
Travis sighed helplessly as he rubbed his face with his hands. "I completely forgot about contacting them. I didn't have my phone with me, too. God! I feel horrible and useless."

"Stop blaming yourself. I will contact them for you instead. Go and find a bathroom to change your clothes before you catch a cold. We don't want you getting a fever when she needed you the most. Hurry up."
Travis took the bag that has clothes in it and looked for a comfort room to change. He didn't take so much time and came out as soon as he can.
Hawk was making a call this time with Cielo while Valkyrie was calling Diego overseas to check on his work.
When Travis left to go back home after his dad collapse, Diego flew to New York and took over his work which was why, Travis didn't really worry about the situation.
Still, they didn't want his business to close or have any problem, so they would always help him no matter where and when.
"Once you're done with the issue overseas, you can go back here. Travis, wouldn't want you to stay there alone." Valkyrie reminded Diego. "Also, if you can check with your girlfriend, please let her know that we need her help."
Diego nodded his head even though Valkyrie couldn't really see him. "I'll be back as soon as I can and Cheska will be there early in the morning."
They talked few minutes more before Valkyrie ended the call. Travis was sitting back on the bench with a fresh set of clothes.
"Cielo and her family is coming over. You better prepare yourself for explanation." Hawk stated without looking at Travis.
Travis didn't say anything and just sat there in silence, waiting for the doctors to finish their work.
Another half an hour passed, just as the doctor was pushing the stretcher out, Cielo and her family came running.
"How is she?" Sky asked as soon as she saw Jillyanna on the stretcher, lying with her eyes closed and pale face. They were pushing the stretcher to a VIP room, chosen by Travis when signing the form, while watching over her recovery.
The doctor looked at Jillyanna's family then to Travis. "The patient is fine. She did lose a lot of blood but she made it. Any seconds later would have really caused hers and the baby's death. It was a good thing that you came here immediately. Your wife and your baby are both safe now. However, you must not let her do any strenuous work or cause her emotions to change time to time. Her physical and emotional well-being should be your top priority."
"Thank you so much doc." Travis bowed deeply to show his gratitude.
"Thank you."
"Thank you."
Cielo and her mother said together with a bow. The all watched Jillyanna being transferred to a VIP room located on the same floor.
"Care to explain what happened?" Cielo asked Travis when Jillyanna was successfully transferred to her own room.

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
