Wu Cailan’s hesitation was a clear indication to Xie Xuning that she, in fact, remembered what she had said to him.

Now, everything was as clear as day. Other than Ye Guoliang and his wife, Wu Cailan was certainly one of the parties involved in the matter back then.

“Ye Tianxin, what on earth are you doing? Let go of me!” Wu Cailan yelled.

Ye Tianxin had locked her grip around Wu Cailan’s arm and threw her into a complete state of panic. Wu Cailan knew that she certainly wouldn’t be able to sustain her marriage with Mayor Zhai if he came to know of what she had done back then.

“You can’t go until you’ve made yourself clear! I’ll go look for Mayor Zhai if you don’t explain yourself.”

Upon hearing Ye Tianxin’s threats, Wu Cailan gave her a hard shove out of desperation.

While Ye Tianxin was mentally prepared, she still staggered under the force of the push and fell backwards.

Her grandmother, who was standing behind her all along, quickly reached out her arms to support her.

However, the momentum of the force was too great, and both of them toppled backwards.

Thankfully, Xie Xuning managed to react quickly and grabbed hold of them with his arms.

Both Ye Tianxin and her grandmother were badly shaken.

While the stairs weren’t steep, they would certainly sustain serious injuries if they were to fall from the push.

“Wu Cailan, what are you doing?” Mayor Zhai hollered when he witnessed what had happened.

Shocked by his yelling, Wu Cailan’s face instantly turned pale, and she crumpled to the ground when her knees inevitably caved in.

There was only one thought screaming at her in her mind.

‘It’s all over now…,’ she thought dazedly.

“Mayor Zhai, many years ago, your wife, Madam Wu, did something that caused me to be separated from my father for decades.”

Mayor Zhai frowned as he listened to Ye Tianxin’s recount. He had planned to have a chat with Ye Tianxin when he heard that she had returned to the Town of Jiameng.

He had intended to get her to talk some sense into Di Shanshi, who had changed drastically after graduating from college.

Di Shanshi never took any money from his family to pay for his college tuition fees, and Mayor Zhai couldn’t help but worry for his son’s future.

As Di Shanshi was in love with Ye Tianxin, Mayor Zhai felt certain that he would listen to her advice.

Little did he expect his wife to shove Ye Tianxin.

“Wu Cailan, what on earth did you do back then?” Mayor Zhai roared, and his anger made his temples pulse.

When Wu Cailan raised her head, tears were already streaming down her cheeks, and she had a look of resentment on her face.

“What have I done? All I did was to tell this man that both Ye Linlang and her mother were dead when he came to look for her.”

Mayor Zhai immediately stomped up to Wu Cailan and raised his arm in a bid to strike her across the cheek. But ultimately, he couldn’t seem to bring himself to do it.
