Magic Trick Chapter 6

"WHAT THE F/UCK IS HAPPENING, FEI?"
I can finally say that the alcohol in my body has totally evaporated. I'm sober now as f/uck. Suddenly, we're in a meadow, with lilies surrounding us near. Only the glaring moon is illuminating us.
"I, ah… It's a family thing," Fei uttered.
"What? Your family just takes some stranger to a place where one can shout so loud but still won't be heard? Who are you, Fei?" I stepped back. I began to develop this fear towards him.
"Don't be afraid, Trick. I will explain everything to you." Fei waved his right hand to the sky and instantly a projection of several scenes appeared, as if I were watching an outdoor movie.
"I was born from a clan of sorcerers. You've met my family earlier tonight, right? All of them have superpowers. Gramms, Mom and Dad, my uncle and aunt, my cousin, my sister. Our bloodline traces from the Huang clan during the Shang Dynasty, one of the most powerful clans of sorcerers that time, until this recent century, when my great grandmother fell in love with a Japanese who is a kitsunetsuki, or a fox employer who is a master of shape-shifting and illusion. They had a daughter, and that was Gramms. When the Huang clan found out about this, they murdered my great grandparents, telling Gramms was a mistake in the bloodline. Gramms, who is surprisingly, the offspring of two powerful sorcerers, has avenged her parents and proved that she is not a mistake by killing every single member of the Huang clan. Now, no one from the Huang clan has ever existed," Fei elucidated.
"Your 99-year-old grandmother?" I was astounded.
Fei chuckled, then continued his story as he demonstrated more scenes in the sky. "She did it when she was ten. She was under the care of a relative of the kitsunetsuki, who is a lady-in-waiting of the emperor in Japan. She trained Gramms all the disciplines in sorcery and shamanism. So, when she has finally developed those skills, she did what she had to do. Then, she promised herself that she will establish a clan of her own who accepts an offspring of dual or even multiple nationalities, just like her. Hence, when she grew up, she married my grandfather, Han Qiu Xing, a Taoist talisman who specializes in the powers of healing and regeneration. They had children, and that's my dad and aunt. My dad married a K/orean-Japanese woman who can yield the power of time and space, and that's my mom. And you've seen my sister, right?"

"And your cute cousin too," I teased.
Fei frowned, and at that moment, rain poured down on me. Just me! He's between the raindrops and he's still dry!
"Hey!" I yelped! "Why am I the only one getting all the rain?"
"You like Haru, don't you?" he frankly asked.
"No! I don't," That's true. I just find him cute, but it's not like Fei who I've been thinking a lot about.
The rain suddenly stopped and he blew from his mouth lightly towards me. I felt a whirl of air circling my entire body. A few moments later, I'm dry as a wood!
"Good to know," Fei grinned.
"So, let me recall. You are a sorcerer, right?"
"I am," he admitted.
"And you have different powers like shape-shifting, illusion, time, space, healing, and you can control the rain and the wind!" I exclaimed.
"Not just that. Gramms and Gramps, they shared a certain energy and developed an imprint for every Xing who is born. That means that every Xing has a special power that he or she only yields."
"And what's yours?"
"You'll find out soon," Fei winked as he said that.
"And… Why do you want me to know all of this? Did you choose me for some reason?"
There goes the flashing of the movie-like scenes in mid-air. "I've been watching you for quite some time now. You may say that I've been stalking you for a while. I always pass by at Robbie's. I just haven't mustered up the courage to talk to you. I know you were working there for only three months. I know you lost your foster family to an accident. I know you are currently crashing at your friend's pad. And I know how kind-hearted you are, Trick."
No way. He does know a lot about me! This is freaking me out right now!
"K-Kind-hearted?"
"Yeah, every heart is filled with kindness, but it seems that yours is overflowing with it. I know that you take all those pastries that were not served and give them to the poor people in the projects every weekend. I know that you go all over New York to show your support to your best friend in his drag shows, even if you're really tired from work. I know that you love your drag family so much, and no matter how terrible what your uncle did to you, you've still forgiven him. It's so hard to find a guy like that in these times, you know," Fei confessed.

That touched my heart. I felt that a tear is running down my cheeks right now. I didn't know that someone is recognizing the things that I do for others. It's not as if I want them to know about it, but it's great to know that my good deeds are valued too.
"You're really a stalker," I chuckled while the tears ceaselessly move down from my eyes.
"Just a great observer, I would say. Although, I would say that I've never watched you jerk off, unlike Ellis," Fei mentioned and bit his lower lip.
"Hey!" I screamed. "How do you know that?"
"I might have used a little bit of my powers on that," Fei disclosed, and demonstrated a peace sign with his fingers.
"Clairvoyance?"
"Not really. More like mind-reading," he stated.
I crossed my arms and raised my left eyebrow at him, as I spoke my mind. So you can read my mind?
I do, and I can respond too. Fei winked.
"Oh, my. Is that telepathy?" I spoke.
"Yeah, it is. But you know what, I can only penetrate minds in free will or if they're spacing out. You can block it if you want."
I looked at him and tried to communicate with him using my mind. Okay, this time, I'm gonna talk to you, but I won't let you hear my thoughts. What's the color of my underwear right now?
Fei just looked at me, as if he was waiting for me to speak.
Oh, my! It's working!
"Uh… Are you blocking me already?"
"Yeah! I just asked you a question in my mind," I said.
Fei sighed. "I see. I am not that powerful enough to do telepathy, but yeah, I have other powers which I am really strong, like this."
Fei snapped his fingers and the entire surrounding changed. We were on a beach, and I can feel my feet buried in the sand and the water splashing too.
I stretched my neck and looked at the blazing sun. "Ah, the heat. It's making me feel alive."
"How about this?" Fei snapped his fingers and we arrived at an edge of a cliff with a scene of boiling lava below. Fireballs are spurting everywhere. Literally, a conflagration is crackling in front of me!
"Fei! What the hell!" I shrieked!
Fei laughed and snapped his fingers. "Okay, let's cool down."
Suddenly, an avalanche is approaching us from the top of the icy mountain. The gushing wind froze my entire body. If earlier, my feet are buried in sand, this time, they're buried in ten inches of snow.
"Fei!" I yelped once more. Then, I jumped at him and embraced him tight! I was terribly scared.
Then, he snapped his fingers and finally, we were back in Queens.
And I was still hugging him.
I let go of the hug and complained in front of him. "What were you thinking?"
Fei guffawed. "I'm sorry. I'm just teasing you. But don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you. I'm gonna keep you safe, Trick. Trust me."
"You prick!" I sat down on the sidewalk and he sat beside me.
"So, that's me, and I hope you'll still give me chance to show you that I really like you, and who knows, someday, you'll realize that you'll like me too."
I closed my eyes. I can't think properly at the moment. I felt like my brain is out there somewhere and couldn't really absorb everything that happened a few minutes ago.
Imagine this, a sorcerer likes me. I don't even expect that a normal guy would like me, let alone a magical being. How crazy would that be?
"I don't know, Fei. I'm really confused right now, and amazed, too, to be honest," I honestly told what's in my heart. It's crazy but it's a great kind of crazy, I'd say.
"Oh, that's okay. No worries, Trick. Nice red underwear, by the way," he said.
I looked at him with eyes wide open.
What the f/uck! I blocked him in my thoughts! How did he know?

The only problem for Zelaria is that no one seems to know how to get a mage class aligned with the arcane. Approaching 17 years of age she’s still at level 0 while her peers have long left her behind, their classes selected at the age of 15 when they became available. Luck is on her side though as she manages to snag employment as a hauler with a party heading on an expedition to a dungeon abandoned centuries ago. They’re looking for riches and danger while she’s still looking for an answer, one she finds at their destination even if not in the way she expected.
