Celestial Peak Chapter 113

By the time Wang Ling opened his mind, he was already inside the white mindscape where he was subjected to the ringing of the bell. This place was a space inside Wang Ling's mind.
He had found this place a long time ago and this was a perfect place where he could cultivate in peace. This white space was a mysterious place to Wang Ling. There was nothing in there and no matter how long Wang Ling wanders inside it, there was no end to the said space.
It was great wonder and Wang Ling does not know how it was created without his knowledge. Well, he does not know how exactly the lineage of the [Holy Lords] fell to his hands so thinking about how the mindscape was created was nothing but a useless attempt to try and unravel a mystery that he can't understand. Maybe in the future when he manages to unlock more of the halos, he will be able to understand it a bit more. But for now, it would be best to just leave the idea be.
Wang Ling was in this mind to do one thing. That was to get his hands on the heritage of the [Lower Holy Lord], the lowest rank in the Holy Lord Race.
Wang Ling had inherited a lot of things from the bloodline of the Holy Lord Race. One would be the angelic qi and the Halo of Heaven that could enhance his strength when activated.
But just like his True Devil bloodline, his Holy Lord bloodline had its own heritage to be passed down. The only difference was, the bloodline that will be passed down greatly augments the body and the halo itself.
Wang Ling will need to open up a path to the Heaven Realm and connect his halo to its very depths. He needs to open up a path to tread one. Wang Ling had tried to open a path to the Heaven Realm, but every time he does so, he fails.
Because the path can only be open with his soul and angelic qi, Wang Ling always faces danger when he attempts to open a path. At one point, he almost died because he was too reckless with the [Trial] of the Holy Lord bloodline.

It was a pain in the ass, yes. But Wang Ling did not care because he knew the benefit was worth the risk. Wang Ling took a deep breath and activated his bloodline. A halo appeared on his back, but that was only the case for his projection in the mindscape.
His physical body did not summon the halo to appear.
Deng!
With the halo appearing on the back of his projected self, a bell rung out and made his soul tremble. It was the bell that was from someplace Wang Ling did not know about initiating the sounding of the bell.
However, the sound was slightly different than before. The effect on his soul was still the same but its sound was different. The sound of the bell that tried to test his soul was *Dong, as this one was more like Deng*.
The sound didn't matter as the effects were practically the same. Wang Ling could still feel his soul being torn apart but he just greeted his teeth as the bell continued to sound out.
Wang Ling stood his ground while his soul trembled. He directed his spirit qi to his halo and began the process of opening the said path. Using his halo as the medium, Wang Ling's consciousness delved deep into it and tried connecting a path to the Heaven Realm.
The halo on the back of his head shone resplendently and angelic qi gathered from all corners of the mindscape. A streak of blood appeared on Wang Ling lips but he did not do anything other than sitting cross-legged.
He dropped on the ground and began a chant. It was a chant he received from his bloodline. There were only five syllables needed to be uttered, "Gi, Du, Jing, Fwi, Jol" those words were as foreign to Wang Ling as to anyone else.
Even Bai Xue did not know of any language like that when he asked her.
"Gi!"
Wang Ling started to speak and his angelic qi trembled with excitement. It became more energetic and Wang Ling began to experience a similar feeling to qi deviation.

But other than pain, Wang Ling knew the qi deviating from its path was not going to harm him in any way.
"Du!"
Wang Ling uttered the second syllable and this time, the bell sounded out louder than before and his halo moved. What used to be the immovable halo appeared in front of Wang Ling and quietly floated in front of him.
"Jing!"
The gathering of the angelic qi began to become stronger and the gathered angelic qi all rushed into the halo that came off Wang Ling. The golden halo had white light forming in its center.
"Fwi!"
Swoosh!
The halo expanded and a giant continuously expanding to all corners of the mindscape. It was a magnificent view as what used to be the white area basked in a beautiful gold.
However, at this moment, Wang Ling tasted a metallic taste in his mouth. Outside, his physical body spurted out blood and those around him suddenly came forth to check up on Wang Ling.
But Bai Xue stepped forward and warned them not to take any step further, "Don't get near ten meters of him. This is the time where it gets dangerous, retreat, Wang Ling knows when to stop so don't worry."
Bai Xue was standing twenty meters away from Wang Ling. She knew what was coming next, it was that vacuum that almost claimed her life after turning her qi flow chaotic.
Boom!
An explosion suddenly happened ten meters around Wang Ling. Every qi both upwards and underneath was being sucked by Wang Ling's body.
Inside the mindscape. The golden halo was still expanding and Wang Ling could feel the power coursing through his veins and meridians. It was an intoxicating feeling but he knew he needed to take another step.
Wang Ling opened his eyes and took in deep breaths. This was the most dangerous part of the process that almost claimed his life before. Wang Ling calmed his heart and finally activated his bloodline on his physical body.
There was now a halo on both Wang Ling's body, both inside and out.
"Jol!"
Angelic qi began surging through his veins. Wang Ling's halo glowed resplendently and the halo of that was inside the mindscape tore space and started connecting with Heaven Realm.
This process would be long but it won't be that too much of a problem. That is if the bell wasn't ringing so damn loudly like it was some kind of alarm. With every sound, Wang Ling's soul trembles and his meridians to shake.
Veins started popping up of Wang Ling's body. Qi was gathering and being absorbed by Wang Ling's halo. The ten-meter radius around Wang Ling became a death zone that will be devoid of spirit qi when some wander in.
If any other being entered that zone. It will die after having its qi absorbed by Wang Ling without any mercy.
Blood started to seep out of Wang Ling's skin. But Wang Ling had yet to stop, it was only a couple of minutes, he could wait it out.
He could his mind starting to break. It was giving in to the pain he was unable to cope with. But his resilience was keeping everything in check, resulting in his body and mental state to retain most of its normal functions.
Then, suddenly…
The golden halo inside his mindscape finally tore through the mindscape. Wang Ling's halo that was on his physical body connected with the halo that was in his mindscape.
Qi coming from Heaven Realm started pouring in and Wang Ling bathes in that feeling. His halo can now absorb qi and information about his new heritage flood his mind.
Opening his eyes and casually looking at his bloody mess his body was in, Wang Ling mumbled to himself, "Getting used to that torture was worth it, now, I have the [Light Bearer]."

After the End: Serenity
We all want to believe we are heroes of our own story - unless we want to be the villain, of course. At the end of everything, the Final Reaper decided he hadn’t been a hero. Driven by a desire to right the wrongs he was subjected to, he killed everyone who wronged him or his people - which turned out to be everyone that wasn’t killed by someone else first. He'd won - but it was a hollow victory. Eventually, Order’s Voice found a way out. If the only existing being would agree to give up most of his power, the Voice could reset the multiverse to an earlier time with a few minor changes. Of course, the Voice couldn't ask it that way. It could only ask if the Final Reaper was willing to start over from when Earth was first brought into Order. It was an easy decision, and yet it wasn’t. Was he willing to go through eons of pain again to not be alone? Yes. In a heartbeat. Not that his heart beat anymore. Now it would. Perhaps he could even be a hero, this time. When he landed in his old body - more or less - on Earth, the Final Reaper once again became Thomas. He was both and neither. He needed a new name for a new life. Serenity. ------------------------------------------ While this is technically a System Apocalypse story, it's a System Apocalypse that is designed to have a large percentage of the population survive and prosper. There are a lot of problems that come with the appearance of the Voice, and it's entirely possible to lose. Earth has some special opportunities, but also special challenges. The first time around, Earth won the first round and lost the second. Serenity has ten years from when the Voice arrives to prevent that from happening. It will be a group effort; Serenity can't win alone - which is difficult for someone who's been alone for as long as he has. Of course, that's only his second priority. ------------------------------------------- Updates Daily A note on the nonhuman lead tag: He isn't human, and hasn't been human for a very, very long time (or maybe not long at all, depending on how you count it). He still thinks of himself as human, either way. The content warnings are mostly to give me room to write; this fiction is not intended to be edgy, but once in a while a character will swear or someone will get seriously injured. The cover image is a Chandra/Hubble composite image of VV 340 / Arp 302 / UGC 9618. While we're not going to space itself any time soon in the story, people from elsewhere are coming to Earth and Serenity will visit other planets. Plus, I like space imagery.
